Will this catch on in the medical community? Doesn't seem like an unreasonable position.
'In Alabama, where the nation’s lowest vaccination rate has helped push the state closer to a record number of hospitalizations, a physician has sent a clear message to his patients: Don’t come in for medical treatment if you are unvaccinated.
Jason Valentine, a physician at Diagnostic and Medical Clinic Infirmary Health in Mobile, Ala., posted a photo on Facebook this week of him pointing to a sign taped to a door informing patients of his new policy coming Oct. 1.
“Dr. Valentine will no longer see patients that are not vaccinated against covid-19,” the sign reads.
Valentine wrote in the post, which has since been made private but captured in online images, that there were “no conspiracy theories, no excuses” stopping anyone from being vaccinated, AL.com reported. The doctor, who said at least three unvaccinated patients have asked him where they could get a vaccine since he posted the photo, has remained resolute to those who have questioned his decision in recent days.
“If they asked why, I told them covid is a miserable way to die and I can’t watch them die like that,” wrote Valentine, who has specialized in family medicine with Diagnostic and Medical Clinic since 2008.'

Now his employer is mandating everyone to get a vaccine. Due to his current state and the way the virus messed up his immune system, DRs are advising him any of the vaccines would likely kill him.
What's the solution for the employer?
I’m guessing a doctor’s note will suffice.

Which included comments on “based on the trajectory we believe a booster will ultimately be needed...”. I read this more as confirmation that the booster isn’t considered officially part of the vaccination. If anything a message to the unvaccinated community that “were not going to string you along forever with boosters and we still think the primary shots are sufficient in our official govt view”. 1. This is a phase II study. As the article says, the purpose of that study is to determine safety, not efficacy.
2. The article says 95% of Covid patients do not need any therapy at all. So a 90% success rate for moderate/severe may not be particularly impressive.
Check back at year end. Which is when they will have first data of treated vs. placebo.
Seems like this drug is mostly being touted as safer, not more effective, than existing treatments (like steroids).

i mean, i'm a novice. i think he just put this together to give some covid for dummies analysis together and it's helpful. i was familiar with the basics on it and tried to post on it this weekend some (not nearly as well or detailed) from the standpoint of messaging, essentially. he's doing it, too, and rightfully taking the "don't freak out" view.Carroll81 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 3:00 pmYes, thanks Bart. It is a good analysis, unfortunately there are some typos and the way he presents his tables sucks. Takes a bit to read it, review the tables and then go back and check the math. Reading the crazy comments helped me figure out his tables. It also shows how easy it is to mess up the math and how many confounding factors there are.wgdsr wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 8:48 amthanks, bart. excellent article for the amateurs out here like me. had been searching out israel results and takes more than others as they were 1st to bat (although some confounding on past disease, one shotters and boosters as he mentions). but as they're in a surge, we're fortunate to have their info. small country so death data maybe won't be as good (but good for them). hopefully any waning is muted, and numbers like 80s and 90s % can stick.Bart wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 8:04 am An interesting take on the data for waning efficacy in Israel.

wgsdr, do you agree with his conclusions? Trying to look at the raw data myself, but Google Translate is struggling with ti.
he's using one data point essentially (515 in israeli hospitals), and there's confounding. not much from him on waning because of that, and the picture is small sample, especially when you break it up. but that isn't his priority.
just tutorial.
i ran across this mit gig over the weekend, has a lot of useful links. and the cdc leaked doc to the post has them doing similar with even a a smaller stowe, et al study from june:
https://medical.mit.edu/covid-19-update ... infections
they're probably getting loads more info by the day. i still haven't looked up yesterday's? israel waning info that prompted:
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/18/covid-b ... idappshare
we'll have more data. i'm not sure whether it matters if it's 75%, 85%, 92% as long as we're tracking to make best policy. to that end, i think we have so far.
messaging maybe not as great, but honestly there are folks that are in the "messaging doesn't matter as much as carrots/sticks camp" and i really couldn't handicap either. can't say they're wrong.

Regarding ivermectin efficacy, see the following article in Nature:
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02081-w
"Throughout the pandemic, the anti-parasite drug ivermectin has attracted much attention, particularly in Latin America, as a potential way to treat COVID-19. But scientists say that recent, shocking revelations of widespread flaws in the data of a preprint study reporting that the medication greatly reduces COVID-19 deaths dampens ivermectin’s promise — and highlights the challenges of investigating drug efficacy during a pandemic.
“I was shocked, as everyone in the scientific community probably were,” says Eduardo López-Medina, a paediatrician at the Centre for the Study of Paediatric Infections in Cali, Colombia, who was not involved with the study and who has investigated whether ivermectin can improve COVID-19 symptoms. “It was one of the first papers that led everyone to get into the idea ivermectin worked” in a clinical-trial setting, he adds."
"The paper’s irregularities came to light when Jack Lawrence, a master’s student at the University of London, was reading it for a class assignment and noticed that some phrases were identical to those in other published work. When he contacted researchers who specialize in detecting fraud in scientific publications, the group found other causes for concern, including dozens of patient records that seemed to be duplicates, inconsistencies between the raw data and the information in the paper, patients whose records indicate they died before the study’s start date, and numbers that seemed to be too consistent to have occurred by chance."

You are right. Article says 95% of the patients do not need treatment. The remaining 5% deteriorate after 5-12 days due in part to the immune systems incorrect cytokine storm. Now this particular molecule seems to have been touted previously for other things like cancer treatment. So while I hope it works out you are 100% correct the proof will come in the larger 155 patient RCT. I hope it does but like most things phase I and II mean little if phase III falls flat on its face.
This site is real interesting. I has a bunch of treatments and vaccines they rank from front runner to...errrrr mabee? There are some interesting things on it but you will notice that the treatment discussed above is not. That does not mean it will not pan out but not on the front runner list for this site. It is an interesting place if you want to rummage around for a while to see what is out there.
