Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
Through Toner's connections he absolutely has the abiltiy to develop a tremendous staff. A bit of insider info from some alums who were around this hiring process at GBURG. DiBartolo is very well liked within the program and in the admin.I think he might have been doing a bit more then your avg. assistant as Hank got up in age. He is just too young for this job/lacked big time of HC experience, and in many ways could be viewed as a young d3 version of Toner. Loyalty to the program unfortunately might hurt him in this situation. They have been pretty good on the defense under him maybe Peter Toner notices he has that side of the ball locked up. If he isn't retained(I've heard he wants to return) I hope WAC at least takes a look or contact him. Gettysburg is all set with a great HC, excited to compete against them!InsiderRoll wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 4:06 pm It’ll be interesting to see if Toner brings some members of the PSU staff with him, provided they don’t get elevated. Their DOLO Mendoza has high level D3 coaching experience at Amherst and was a finalist for the WAC HC job. Their volunteer Donley was formerly an assistant at Dickinson. Or will he keep DiBartolo? Would DiBartolo even want to stay? I imagine he was waiting to try and get this job, now that he didn’t, would he even want to stay. I get that Gettysburg likes him a lot, but he’s got to be thinking “apparently they don’t like me that much”.
There’s also the allure getting a young recent grad PLL guy in the mix. Like O’Keefe.
Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
Several speculative ifs there, but I suspect you're right about Denison's search being intertwined with, and thus delayed by, Gettysburg's process. Then again, maybe it's just internal politics at Denison... With a number of Gburg alums out there as potential candidates, the Bullets went in another direction, and it looks like they made a strong choice.Switzerland wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 3:55 pm As a sidebar, if NSL was the top choice at G’burg turned it down, and doesn’t take over at Denison, if he is offered… what is he waiting for…?!

Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
And a little surprising that Denison hasn't wrapped it up yet. Seems like it's maybe stalled. They're not looking at anyone who "needs" a job, and that gives a candidate a lot of leverage.
Most D3 schools aren't used to that kind of negotiation, where someone can say, "Give me this, or I'm fine staying where I am." And I've been around a lot of D3 admins who don't want the feeling/perception/reality that the tail is wagging the dog (and athletics is always the tail).

Denison - over seven weeks since Mike's announced retirement. Weirdly quite, given the number of their alumni/fans on this board.
McDaniel - Euker resigned May 26. Probably just now getting to interviews.
Guilford - New AD started June 15, after 30 years at a school without lacrosse. Interim HC (since October) weathered the pandemic and did a decent job. Expect interim tag to be removed soon.
Messiah - Bulus resigned in April. Not a word...
Willam Peace - Almost eight weeks since their "priority" deadline, and no word
(not a great sign of commitment for these last two, if they want to get over the hump)

Expect Messiah announcement soon. Within days from what I've heard. Sounds like this may be a "second guy offered" kind of thing, where the first guy dragged his feet a lot, played some games asking for more money, and asked to have until July 1 to make his decision...he decided not to take the job so Messiah moved quickly last week in offering the job to the candidate who accepted it recently.WhiteCarrera wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 10:52 am Denison - over seven weeks since Mike's announced retirement. Also worth having on that list: Amherst - News broke of RD leaving / being asked to leave the program almost a month ago; no posting of the job from Amherst, RD still listed on website but emails going to generic email address.....that may be the oddest one on the carousel this year.
Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
Hearing rumblings out of Amherst that Wesleyan OC- WP is who AC wants to replace RD as HC.

That would be a tremendous hire. I know WP has been looking for the right HC gig and this would be it for him.

From a current student athlete on the Guilford Lacrosse team - we were told Mark Frey, assistant coach at Methodist University is our new head coach.WhiteCarrera wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 10:52 am Denison - over seven weeks since Mike's announced retirement. Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
He’s pretty young. And has only coached for a few years. Talented young coach but very green. I’ve heard some Big Ten and Ivy guys may have interest.
Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
Exciting young coach. Surprising if he has been looking for the right HC slot for years when he only has a handful of years as an assistant but something like this would be the best AC can do right now. Their academics remain a draw for players, but their self-immolation the last few years put off all established coaches. Best case scenario is a very young and exciting assistant where you are throwing down money at +2000 where he is not likely to be a huge success just based on the numbers but if he hits you are a huge winner.InsiderRoll wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:24 amHe’s pretty young. Not true what so ever.
Pilat is currently wearing his Wesleyan apparel at the Lax Masters event.
Amherst can’t make a hire yet because of the legal action taken by Devoe.

“WP is who AC wants” does not mean he is hired yet. And certainly doesn’t mean he can’t be still working for his current employer. Plenty of coaches are on the road recruiting for school X while interviewing and subsequently negotiating with school Y.
His attendance at said tournament has no bearing on where he will be coaching next year.

Also not aware of how “legal action” from Davoe would preclude Amherst from hiring another coach. Duke hired Dino while Pressler was hammering them for $$$ in a lawsuit.

Chris Cooper at Caz, good hire and finally a FT position at the school.

Re: 2021 Coaching Carousel
I don't know any of the particulars; but something must be going on a Amherst that has slowed the process....something has kept them from removing Davoe from the website, announcing his departure (especially after multiple lacrosse media outlets have reported it), and posting the job. Other AC athletics jobs have been posted this summer so it's not a hiring freeze or a wait till July 1 kind of thing....something is happening there that has brought the process to a standstill. Maybe it is legal action of some kind?LaxPundit07 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 1:08 pm Also not aware of how “legal action” from Davoe would preclude Amherst from hiring another coach. I’d be much more believing of this if you’d said DC WP. Much more reasonable scenario.LaxPundit07 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 1:07 pm“WP is who AC wants” does not mean he is hired yet.
