Thanks for posting this. Nice to see Wakefield and Defliese get this recognition, as I thought both of them played exceedingly well over the days of the tournament. I'm a little surprised Emma Tyrrell didn't make this team; maybe only allowed two Emmas per team.
I was going to say DiFliese was my D star....Wakefield not far behind.
Yep! Very glad to see her on this list, she had an outstanding tournament & defense doesn’t always get the love they deserve

I know this is ACC, but it got me thinking about Lizzie Colson. Where do you think she belongs in this group?

Having not watched many of her games, I would say she is third in that list. I have been watching Wakefield since 10th grade....she is physical with one of the best checks in the game. Difliese got my attention this week. They are very close.

I feel better now. I scanned that list two or three times and missed Ward's name. Thought, man, that girl really got shafted she should be on there. Glad to see the committee agrees with me.
DiFliese is just terrific, you get the same from her in every game, a quiet very solid performance. Pretty nice little clearing machine too.

Colson exceeds both on the circle. She is a force there. Both Wakefield and Defliece have better teammates playing alongside them. Tough to make these sorts of comparisons. MHO.

How do you determine Colson is better on the circle? According to your narrative she’s been playing marginal teams all season and a good not great Wildcats team. Meanwhile Wakefield and Defliese have been playing the best of the best in the ACC.

Wakefield and Defliese in my book, are the better two than Colson. Colson an excellent player, but not even close to the level of Alice Mercer and Iliana Sanza before her.

Welcome back, Joe! Ain't seen hide nor hair for what--weeks? months? Have you been watching all along? Any big impressions from the games you've seen or what you think is coming in the Dance? All ears, pal.

Well, first, what the heck do I know anyway. Second, my "narrative" in this instance includes Colson's prior years playing good/better competition than I think she played this year. Her play on the draw circle is excellent, relentless. I agree with Joe that she is not the defender Mercer was, but then, very few people were or are.

The player honors make complete sense. The COY, not so much. Gary loses two Tewaarton candidates to calamitous injury, including perhaps the best offensive player in the college game today, finishes (before the NCAA tournament) 14-3, but Levy gets the coach of the year award. AWW had a better case for COY, given what I think most people expected from BC and the subsequent trajectory of enormous improvement on the backs of a lot of freshmen and sophomores. It's not "Best Record of the Year Award."

Gait or AWW would have had to win the Championship for either one of them to win COY

its Big time Lax...reputations often mean more than reality. COY or TeamOY. Why do they have to be the same? I agree with you....Cletus or DMac could have coached that team to near the same level of success (with or without gummies)

Why? is that (winning a championship) a metric for COY?

I agree with Sea.

Not yet; too early in the day. But yeah, I do think Hawryschuk was the best individual offensive player in college lacrosse this year. And that is no slight to Ortega or Scane or Hoeg or North or anyone else. They are great players. We are in opinionland here.

The awards sector of women’s lacrosse is too safe and polite. I would also say the same thing for coach of the year in the Big Ten. I think coach Lehman deserved the award for what she did with Rutgers this year. The powers that be seem too timid to rock the boat or offend people or whatever. The commentary on the whole from women’s lacrosse is too safe and polite. Mutual admiration societies get awfully boring awfully quick.

Completely agree with sc. Levy has an absolutely loaded team (including GK and #1 ranked freshman) that she'd have to completely phukk up in order to not win with while Gary has had to patch his team up from devastating loss after loss and with an unknown freshman to help carry the load. BS call.
