Conservative Irrationality

Post by DocBarrister »

The most dangerous contagion we now confront is the coronavirus, which has killed more than 20,000 Americans and thrown more than 16 million out of work. The second-most-dangerous contagion is the conspiracy-mongering, hostility to science and outright irrationality promulgated by President Trump and his loudmouth media enablers. It will take intensive contact tracing to follow the spread of crackpot ideas: Is Trump infecting the cable news hosts, or are they infecting him? Suffice it to say, the president and his media fans are both afflicted with perilous misconceptions that are making the threat from the coronavirus far more acute.

The government of China has distributed masks to its 1.4 billion citizens and it gives some to overseas Chinese as well:

https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/health-e ... -singapore

At least a dozen are given to students in Singapore. You have to wonder if that country supply all those people with masks, why can't the USA do the same to its citizens where the population is so much smaller?

Deaths?

This is from the CDC itself:

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvss/coro ... deaths.pdf

Should “COVID-19” be reported on the death certificate only with a confirmed test? COVID-19 should be reported on the death certificate for all decedents where the disease caused or is assumed to have caused or contributed to death. Certifiers should include as much detail as possible based on their knowledge of the case, medical records, laboratory testing, etc. If the decedent had other chronic conditions such as COPD or asthma that may have also contributed, these conditions can be reported in Part II. (See attached Guidance for Certifying COVID-19 Deaths)

With this "knowledge", you trusting the death count numbers, based on the CDC's recommendations to just, essentially, "wing it" ?
Yup, clinicians are classifying respiratory hang nails as COVID-19. This is not unique to COVID-19. It has always been this way, with even long known causes of death. The most reasonable "evidence based" cause of death. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, its a duck.

Yup. Those righties sure like to see their Republican regimes through rose colored glasses. More American embassy employees die under Bush who started 2 needless wars in which he killed off thousands of innocent Middle Easterns. This because he suddenly got an epiphany where he hears the golden voice of God and is inspired to kill in his name. But we need to forget all that according to the righties because Benghazi is so much more important. Yeah, those delusional right wingers sure are a funny lot.

Interesting article on the attempts to ramp up testing, the implementation of which I see as a critical element in restoring this country to relative health and fiscal normalcy as rapidly as possible. With Abbot currently producing only 50,000 cartridges a day it will take forever to get back to a normal state. I would propose the government focus on finding a way to facilitate increasing that production by a factor of 100.

Good example, Brookie!

When it happened people were blasting Trump for “racist” fear-mongering policies and overreaction of visa issue and travel bans.

Now he didn’t go far enough.

belief in nothing? that's what your take is ?

What does the CDC stating (above) that one can "assume" the cause of death was V-19, just because a 88 year old died, alone, in the nursing home....and the accuracy of the death numbers.

Sorry, when the CDC has a range of 20k-40k deaths for the annual/season/ flu..........we are just supposed to "believe" everything and anything ?

jhu72....you believe, what? in god? which one? you SURE that is the REAL god?

I believe the fault lies, solely, with tRump.

Like I said , we found the cure for everything. Get rid of the current guy .....

JHU72, you read that $2 trillion bill yet?

exactly
All of these old people are dying of the flu unless you test the corpse for Covid. Never mind the other 5 dead bodies in the home tested positive a few days before.
“You lucky I ain’t read wretched yet!”
