Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
Surprises all over.
Dickson on 3rd and Mark on HM (too low). ND middies on 1st and 2nd (too high?). Zappitello effectively penalized for injury. More will probably jump out over time.
I don't think the Tewaaraton has ever come from below the USILA 1st team, so we've implicitly narrowed the candidates...

This isn’t the USILA All American list, this is just the list put out by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Inside Lacrosse will put out their own All American list as well. The real list is the USILA one which comes out right before Memorial Day weekend.BetweenTheLines wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 3:15 pm I don't think the Tewaaraton has ever come from below the USILA 1st team, so we've implicitly narrowed the candidates...

Honestly, didn't even realize this was a third list. Only remembered USILA and IL Media, so assumed it was the former.BigTom5 wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 3:43 pmThis isn’t the USILA All American list, this is just the list put out by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
It’s silly to name them now. The real season has just started. I mean it’s possible for some players on teams that haven’t made the tournament to have had such good season that they deserve AA honors, but how you perform when the season is in the line should have some bearing on individual honors.

Agree. Campbell played attack. Mcenvoy robbed. Campbell great player but he started every game at attack. Tevlin must have gotten bonus points for playing the bagpipeslorin wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 1:00 pmCampbell listed has a middie is a joke, and Tevlin 13 points give me a breaknyjay wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 12:01 pm FIRST TEAM

Agreed on Dickson and Mark being too low. Both should be First.
Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
At a minimum would have Dickson swap spots with his high school teammate Mackesy for 2nd team.
Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
That looks like it. Stephenson was really going to have a great career before blowing out his leg, glad he has had a strong ending to his time at Duke

Dickson drew the #1 pole each week?

Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
I count only three from MIAA, none first team. Quibble with some of the selections if you will, but this illustrates the decline of Baltimore privates on the national scene.

Interesting selection of defenders. Saustad ahead of Makar? Bowen on the third team? The idea that there are seven defenders better than Bowen is… unique.
Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
Nope, but the way he moves off ball Dickson rarely is covered by one person. Not going to start the quality of opponent stuff again but I do put higher weight, this year, on numbers put up in ACC vs Ivy. Dickson also had to share points with a more talented cast than Mackesy. Of course you can say that that prevented him from getting as much attention and that is true too but the number of goals he has put up in the available opportunities with so many other studs is amazing. As I think Dickson has been better than Shellenberger this year, I would also be fine with swapping for him (not a better player, had a better year, and these aren’t career or talent awards).

Re: USA Lacrosse Magazine All Americans
He was Ian Laviano + in that system. Pretty certain he isn't in the top 3 on the opposition's scout. He had a great season though. He had an AA level season. He scored more points than Shellenberger this year but I would not call him a better lacrosse player.pcowlax wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 9:36 pmNope, but the way he moves off ball Dickson rarely is covered by one person.
