Virginia at Towson

Post by molo »

I’m glad to see these teams playing each other again even if the series is one sided. There’s nothing like be able to walk to a game in the area you’ve lived most of your life that pits your neighbor against the team from
the town where you spent several years filled more with fun than accomplishment. HPU didn’t do the Tigers any favors when they knocked the defending champs down a spot in the rankings by almost beating them at home.
Towson faces a tough test tomorrow against the Mount. They need work on face-offs, team offense, and team d. Will they be able to exploit some of the shortcomings exposed in the High Point game?
UVA did not shoot well. Shellenberger and Moore were involved in all but a couple of their goals. While most of the offensive starters got points, the two star attackmen were the only consistent initiators. Will Nunes need to make 16 saves again?
Always physical, I don’t think this group of Tigers is deep enough to match the visitors. They don’t have a Nolting, but they have a superb defenseman in Smith. Plus, you have to like a team whose best player wants to
be a murder police.

LaSalla at faceoff, the Tigers are going to have to spend
this week refining their faceoff crew to at least force scrums,
or, a good defense will get worn out.
Tigers play was better in the Hopkins game when they pushed it,
and, hopefully, no zones against the Cavs.

Big If but get some 50/50 balls on faceoffs and this could be a game.
After Sat Towson goes on a Very Winnable 4 Game stretch.

Following Loyola’s lead, TU now features Chick-fil-a. It’s not pc but is pretty tasty.

Virginia has had several position players that are part of the last 2 titles. But, at the top of the list is Lasalla. He is a fullback at the X. Heck of a player. Yes, Shellenberger, Moore and co are excellent. But guess what? If the ball isn’t in the box they aren’t sniffing the ball.

While we won’t be facing the conditions that Cornell and Albany will be dealing with, it will be 43 and windy at face-off with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s. Westerly winds blow right through the U. Dress as you would for a day that feels like freezing or below.
The dog was ready to get back inside after about ten minutes this morning, and he is usually pretty tough on the cold.
Did the brisk weather depress UVA’s scoring last weekend?
Hard to imagine another game below 15 goals, but the Tigers are known for physical d.

2-1, not so bad for the Tigers,
note to Nads,
keep Berkeley on the field the entire game.

Closed first half followed by third quarter rout. Visitors played without a starting attackman and a two way middie but depth prevailed. Word from the stands says the former had a hamstring injury, the latter a shoulder issue. Dickson replaced Moore. Simmons, normally a second middie who picked up lots of Conner’s minutes, pumped in four a few miles away from his hometown Lutherville.

1 player missing these days is a an ok. Credit Tiffany w a suffocating defense in the second half . Nunez has a ways to go, but he will come around. Towson could not handle tight pressure.

It was actually three counting the pole. Nunes had two or maybe three saves in the first half to about eight for his counterpart. UVA outshot them by quite a bit for the game, but even in the first half, which they led just 7-6 after crawling out of a 4-1 deficit, they still had a significant edge. Despite having just one alpha middie, UVA has lots of depth at the position, both on offense and at ssdm. When the FOGO, who took his share of mini offensive runs started to falter, his backup played well, but there is just one backup. Or at least just one dressed today. Got some trees playing both close and lsm. Hope the injuries heal quickly hammies and shoulders can be stubborn, if in fact that's what they are.

What’s your point ? Va should be doing exactly what they are doing ! They did it w Ace, Dom, and now Lars. But, Lars defense is a little unique and successful. Nothing has changed, they get the best recruits in the land. Why is the SU v Va the best game in lacrosse the last 30 years ? Because they have the best players . Bingo. They still deserve massive credit, But, it’s not rocket science.

Goalie blacked out first quarter. Towson can not win big games unless these 3 things happen. 1) Better FO and wing play. 2) Much better rope unit play. 3) horrible turnovers. Like throwing and catching. Defense is getting worn out( tigers get shot clock down to under 10 many times) Then when we get ball O has to basically give them a 30-40 second rest. This team can play with anyone but need more possessions.

16-3 after first quarter, before bench was emptied. Including 10-1 in second half before bench emptied. Virginia needs to stop with bad first quarters.
