I'm baffled that Madison Ahern will go the 2021 season being passed over for this list. Not the first time the Tewaaraton committee has made bonehead choices or oversights.

It's kind of a strange list. I do wonder how it gets compiled. But it seems like she got bumped by the five other UND names (Choma, Aldave, Lynch, Deehan and Roe). Why not Howe or Wolak too? She's a very good player, ad will get her recognition.

Right. I hadn't even considered Howe but she's another excellent player who got passed over. I don't know the Golden Domers as well as you so I can't comment on Wolak.

Just looking at stats. Wolak is right behind Ahern. Not a team I follow closely (although I think UND is a little better than BC!).

For all of these awards - I wish they would just have two awards - Offensive MVP and Defensive MVP. Just like with the Heisman Trophy, it's virtually impossible to win as a defender.

Probably fair to say the Tewaaraton is now a 4-horse race among attackers Ortega, Scane and North, plus goalie Taylor Moreno. It's rare for a goalie to win, so Moreno probably needs to have a combination of UNC winning the natty, posting a great tournament personally, and Ortega having a good, but not great tournament performance. When Megan Taylor won as a goalie in 2019, UMd won the national championship and she finished the year with a .551 season save percentage and an even .500 in the tournament. The scoring was remarkably balanced for the Terps that year with 6 women netting between 44 and 59 goals. I imagine they splintered the votes, opening the door for Taylor who fully deserved the award. Moreno, BTW, is running ahead of Taylor with a .584 save percentage.

Here are a few stats that I will try to update weekly. Yes, I know there is more to the award than stats, but there is a huge correlation historically among scoring stats, your team making it to at least the final four, and winning the Tewaaraton. Some will say it's unfair to include DC stats, but historically that has been another big correlation point for Tewy winners. The last 5 non-goalie winners have averaged 130 DCs for the season.

If I had to rank who had the best week for improving their chances, I would put them in the order of North, Scane, Moreno & Ortega. In addition to my BC bias, I would give North the nod over Scane because she helped her team to 2 unexpected wins and dominated on draw controls, while Scane needed 15 shots to score 6 goals. Feel free to weigh in with your own views of who had the best week!

Right now as you said...it’s going to depend on who makes final 4 and then finals ...I noticed you didn’t put Ally Kennedy in there - not that I feel she deserves it but the “pundits” like her for Tew...I’m sure there are better middies who play in much tougher conferences and defenders too that you didn’t include “

If stats don't enter the picture (and they shouldn't play in as big as they do, there are too many variables that can affect them) who would you say is the fiercest, most focused and determined, talented and unstoppable player on that list? The eyes should more determine the award than stats but it is what it is.

Eye test, I'd go with Scane, North or Colson with Ortega and Moreno as finalists.

It's curious that there are no true two-way middies that I'd consider this year. I wonder if we'll see as many moving forward or if draw specialists, faster pace with the shot clock, 3 on the draw and more stick skill creativity have reduced the number of Taylor Cummings-esque players. It's also interesting to consider how different coaches use their players- I imagine that Colson is probably also an elite shooter, I'd think that Treanor or Apuzzo were also perfectly skilled defenders but what's the cost in terms of fatigue, increased likelihood of injury/ exacerbation of existing injuries etc. Scane for example started at NU as a defensive middie and over the years has become a pure attacker but she can certainly play great D. Would she be a better tew. candidate as a middie?
