NCAA DIV 1 Dead Period Extension and the Lost 2021's

Post by WhiteShark »

2022's are all over the news. The 2021's being totally ignored after Covid. Unless 2021's parents can afford to reclassify or do an extra year PG. Tough choices for the average joe in this new Covid world.

2021s were never respected by Xanders et al...That class got the shaft big time in so many ways starting with the recruiting rules changing when they were rising freshmen all the way to covid.
The 2020s were recruited for 4 years and got a ton go hype and many deservedly so.
The 2022s are apparently getting heavily recruited/committed with little if any varsity play and minimal summer exposure. Blackout period apparently doesn't mean anything. Cant visit campus- who cares!
Unfortunately the 2021s that haven't committed will either need to reclassify or forget about college lacrosse.

With the huge numbers of 2022s committing, the option of reclassing is quickly fading as well. The 2021 class wasn't really recruited early due to the rule change, missed its most important season, might miss its Sr. Season, and got squeezed by the 5th year rule. Tough spot for many kids.

Some hope for 21s. Doubt there will be 200 more commits but at least some schools are still looking for 21s.

If you can afford to reclassify or do a PG year, The Hill Academy in Canada is definitely worth a look!

So what if, and I know this is crazy talk but hear me out .... what if kids picked their school based on academics and their long-term career goals and then figured out the lacrosse? Pretty nuts huh?

The coaches are going to still need those bodies on the squad (see the IL article) - which means the high school class of 2021 will probably see more walk-ons than the sport has had since the 70's! That could actually be pretty exciting for a bunch of kids who otherwise couldn't afford to play the recruitment game.
STILL somewhere back in the day....

...and waiting/hoping for a tinfoil hat emoji......

2021's were evaluated live by some college coaches in the fall of 2018, and all college coaches evaluated 2021's in the summer and fall of 2019. 2022's were able to be evaluated live by some coaches in the fall of 2019 and missed the live evaluation period this summer and will miss this fall as well. All other recruiting this summer for 2022's was based off of video from the club tournaments, and word of mouth from Cottle and Petro who were on the club circuit. An argument could be made that 2022's had a more difficult road than 2021's did.
