Big games on tap this coming weekend (March 9/10)

Post by RedFromMI »

Saturday March 8

Merrimack (#1) hosting LIU Post (#10), 2 PM EST --- last time in DII for this matchup - should be a great one
Belmont Abbey (#4) hosting Queens (#16), noon EST --- Queens gave Stone a tough battle last Saturday - can they turn the corner?
Lindenwood (#12) hosting Tampa (#19), 1 PM CST --- Tampa has one of the toughest schedules in DII and are 3-3 so far which shows it...

and only because it is a chance for a pre-season Southern favorite to show it can win a tough game:
Wingate (#18) hosting Lenoir-Rhyne, 1 PM EST --- an 0-4 start for the Bears is not what was expected...

Nothing really on Sunday (only ranked team #8 Pace hosting Georgian Court)

Monday March 10 (I know this is NOT the weekend, but it is an interesting one none the less...)

#3 Limestone hosting Rockhurst (#13), 2 PM EDT --- Rockhurst beat Lake Erie by 8 and pushed Belmont Abbey last Saturday into OT before losing - this one is the middle game of what looks like a three game Southern swing for the Hawks (tonight at Montevallo and Wednesday at Shorter for GLVC conference games). How good are the Hawks? Is the Saints defence up to this one, as Rockhurst can score...

Thanks for the list Red! Now I don't have to go through all the games and find the interesting ones.

Looks like I might need multiple devices as there are overlaps for all these games.

The one I'm most interested in seeing is the Queens/Belmont Abbey game.

And I would add Florida Southern at Mount Olive at noon tomorrow...

Queens 14-8 over BA. Looks Limestone is the south favorite if they get by Rockhurst.

Lightning delay in St. Louis.
10:36 in Q4
Lindenwood and Tampa tied 9-9

Mack vs LIU Post 16-16 in regulation. Faceoff guy for Post has set a DII record for faceoff wins and ground balls (something like 32 or 33 so far) in a game. Mack has won 3 faceoffs. Post had a 4 goal lead early in the fourth, but Mack was able to go ahead with less than a minute remaining...

And #1 Mack falls 17 seconds into OT: LIU Post 17, Merrimack 16

33-36 on faceoffs for Farrell. 30 Ground balls for him as well (guys in the booth had the wrong number of GBs). One other player had a FO win for Post, so as a team they won 34-37.

Bertrand for Mack had 8 goals on 4 assists... 12 of the 25 total points for Mack.

Lindenwood - 10
Tampa -9
FINAL

A big win for LU. Tampa was at full strength for the first time all year with both Wright and Kew in the lineup. This has been a good series for the last three years. I hope they stay on each others' schedules.

Just saw the ending - Tampa had several shots to tie near the end - only one on goal was an easy save.

And if you want to beat Merrimack - you have to basically win all the FOs...
