spallina was 2 academic years anyway behind o'neill. seen him once. even with all the assists, very ball dominant. not sure how that plays out w the shot clock.

Having watched a pretty good amount of Mt. Sinai games this year I can say that their offense moves fairly quickly, while I am sure some adjustment will be needed I don't think the shot clock will be any sort of issue for a player like Spallina. Now certainly he will need to adjust to the D1 game and the speed and physicality of D1 defenders. I suspect he will have some learning moments against elite D teams like ND and others. Still with Dordevic at G-town he will be able to be the Quarterback of the offense more then I think he or Gait anticipated going into next year. He will likely see less double teams as well then he's used to with Hiltz back and Birtwistle or Leo as the third attackmen.

Having the opportunity to play with Hiltz for the next few years could lessen 'Cuse's reliance on him to carry the load. Though it was a limited sample size, Birtwistle has shown some serious upside. I am not expecting him to light it up next year with such a young team. If his point production is similar to Hiltz's freshman year - that would be a huge success.

Hiltz will be Syracuse's most talented Cuse player the next three years . Laid back star who just cares about playing . His return will make a largest impact.

Dordevic might have finished up at Cuse if he was given #22 last year.

I don’t think it is a given that any one player has the inside track on the third attack spot given incoming freshmen and transfers.

The team will certainly be young and likely struggle at times esp given teams with players in the 22-25 age range

Honestly, I'd prefer it if you said their recruiting class looks good on paper. There are big expectations for this group and they'll feel it, but we know that there is a lot more than one great recruiting class that goes in to making a good college lacrosse team. Each of these players will have their own unique struggles and hurdles they need to overcome in order to even contribute to the Syracuse team.

Usual caveats but their 23 class also has strong potential

Yes. I saw that also. Time will tell. Games aren’t played on paper.

I’m assuming that the Sun erred in saying that Dom Pietramala is a future SU attackman. I’m referring to an online piece about the Under Armour game.

Not a 'Cuse fan but not a hater either, but if I were a fan I'd be concerned about people being given (and that is the word used, accurately) #22 before they play a game. Has Maryland given #1 to incoming freshmen or transfers (à la Scanlon)? Was Rambo promised #1 as a recruit, or did he have to earn it/grow into it? I don't know, but I think it makes for a healthier climate if these rewards are earned. This is not a shot at Spallina, just an observation from 10,000 feet.

Just ask Spallina dad, he already earned it.

I recall the Syracuse fans discussing this a great length in LP for years back in the day. Believe more are against it than for it. Used to be a recruiting tool when the Powell Bros were more fresh in the minds of people but absent that it loses some value and carries risk.
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

I'm also guessing most SU fans would rather it go to a deserving player after they play some college lacrosse, but it certainly worked pretty well for awhile with the Powells and to a lesser extent with Dan Hardy. Jojo Marasco wore #1 as a freshman when Cody Jamieson wore #22 in 2010. I'm guessing Marasco was told he'd get #22, but I don't know that. Evans wore it right away. Scanlan was given it after a great freshman season at Loyola. Due diligence failure there, but he certainly proved he could play at a high level. I'm guessing if the coaches could go back in time, they wouldn't have offered it to Evans, and they would've probably given it to Kevin Rice in 2014 or 2015. In 2016, Dylan Donahue was a senior and the offensive leader. Maybe he would've worn it then. 2017, SU was light at attack but had Salcido and Mariano at midfield. Maybe one of them would've worn it. It was dormant in 2018-2020 from what I can remember.

I been playing, watching, coaching sports for a long time. IMO Spallina is not athletic enough to be a 1st team AA. I think Bowen, Makar, Hudgins, Adler would beat him down. Look at the Duke kid much bigger an stronger and he's not killing D1. Good player but not elite.

Lol, who, Brennan O'Neill? He was 10th in the country in goals per game, 21st in points per game, and a 2nd team All-American as a sophomore last year. Hello?
