What is the reasoning behind removing mail sorting machines?
maintenance??? maybe they needed to be repaired or overhauled. Were they working properly? The head honcho of the PO will be asked all those questions by Congress very soon. Maybe he will have the answer to that? Maybe he will be blowing smoke up our butts. We will find out soon. I would suppose if we went into the elections and these sorting machines were not working properly the outrage about why they were not repaired would be equally intense as removing them.
During election season? Everyone should send their A/C our for service in the Summer.
Many people don't realize it's broken all winter until they turn it on for the first heat wave in the summer.

That’s a repair....not maintenance service.

What is the reasoning behind removing mail sorting machines?
The Postal Service sent a statement to KWCH, saying it routinely moves around equipment to match its mail and package volumes.
"Additionally, we are retiring older, out of date equipment so that we can expand our newer sorting equipment that can handle as many as 30,000 letters an hour. This will increase our capacity and our efficiency to handle increased package volume as well as any current letter and flat volume. This is a multi-year effort that prepares us for the future," the statement read.

Nineteen sorting machines from five processing facilities across the country have been removed or are scheduled to be removed shortly, Motherboard reported via VICE.

theGrio spoke to a Michigan postmaster, who was willing to be quoted anonymously, about the changes happening in her district on Friday.

“Yes, I know a couple of mechanics that are removing some sorting machines. Some were removed last year due to malfunction,” the source shared. She also noted why some machines are being withdrawn from the facility.

She explained, “Short staffing is the reason some will be removed. The machines being removed means that more zip codes will have to be run on one machine as opposed to having multiple others.”
That aligns with a report I heard -- with the rise in packages & drop in letter volume, they don't need as many sorting machines & can better use the floor space to process packages.

The PG will testify before the House next Mon. CSPAN should cover it. It should be an epic Congressional dog & pony show.

That Judge is really on top of what's going on ==> He did say some protesters have been cloaking themselves as press and engaging in riotous behavior. Those, he said, can still be arrested, as can anyone engaging in illegal activities.

But he said that shouldn’t be an issue because actual reporters have been warned to stay to the side of any actions or clashes, so law enforcement shouldn’t have difficulty separating journalists from protesters.

tRUMP's America.

Hopefully, vote suppression will be minimized and we'll have change for the better in November.

This Was the Week American Fascism Reached a Tipping Point

In the final week of August, the United States saw its biggest deterioration in societal norms and steps towards outright fascism since President Donald Trump came to office four years ago under a mantle of barely veiled authoritarianism. The troubling developments of the past week are almost too many to count.

Ammon Bundy and dozens of other armed white and unmasked protesters pushed their way past police in Boise to pack the gallery overlooking Idaho’s House of Representatives. The gallery had been restricted for social distancing, but after the confrontation, which resulted in the shattering of a glass door, protesters were allowed to fill every seat.

It was also the week of the Republican National Convention, which culminated with a grand and illegal presidential acceptance speech with the backdrop of the taxpayer-funded White House decked out in Trump-Pence 2020 propaganda. The sight of the White House being used directly as a political prop in such a way has never happened in American history and is more reminiscent of the actions of certain European leaders of the 1930s who turned themselves into embodiments of the state.

Sam Wang at the Princeton Election Consortium:
In his public abuse of Laurene Powell Jobs, Donald Trump reminds us again of the PEC Authoritarian Checklist. At this point, the Trump Administration meets all 10 criteria for authoritarianism that I laid out in 2017, before the start of the term. It was a way of laying out possibilities in advance, preventing the concepts from being redefined along the way. Each item has been reinforced over time, for example the use of federal forces to detain BLM protesters, and Trump’s defense of Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse and other white nationalists.

Whether this becomes a long-term part of our system of government is on the ballot in November.

Could we change the title of this thread to include OTHER fascist authoritarians?

Or should I start another thread for those?

We have a Russia thread...a Belarus thread...etc

Do you think there's interest in talking about OTHER fascist, authoritarian leaders and their followers more generally?
If so, go ahead.

Certainly a lot of interest in this particular one.
