Teachers don't need Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos to lecture us about how children should be in school. We know it. But we also have to keep them safe.

I am a special education teacher and lifelong Republican who reluctantly voted for Donald Trump in 2016 as the less bad of two bad choices. When the pandemic hit, the incompetence of the man for whom I had voted and the complicity of everyone around him forced me to admit that I could no longer maintain any kind of self-respect as a Republican. So even though I had voted Republican in every presidential election since 1976, I changed my voter registration to independent and I will be voting for Joe Biden in November.
Nevertheless, I am still haunted because, deep down, I fear that with that vote I may have signed my own death warrant.
I live and teach in a small Oklahoma town. It’s not far from the site of President Trump’s Tulsa campaign rally on June 20 that appears, as common sense would have predicted, to be a super-spreader event. About two weeks after the rally, Tulsa County reported a record high number of cases. I am over 60, with two autoimmune diseases. This outbreak has me worried as it is. Now, with the prospect of schools reopening in a few short weeks, I am terrified.
There are around 3.5 Million teachers. And that's just the teachers. These teachers have wives and husbands, and full grown kids.CU77 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 11:25 pmhttps://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/ ... 485804002/Teacher: I was a reluctant Trump voter. Honestly W, I don’t know. He’s done better than some, not as good as others. On a somewhat positive note, most days he’s kept NC out of the discussion of the ten states doing the lousiest jobs, which might be saying something since we are in the south.wgdsr wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 8:48 pmdo you believe the governor will be able to get control of the outbreak in nc?SCLaxAttack wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 7:45 pmTwo months ago NC Governor Scott Cooper refused to be intimidated by the moron-in-chief, listened to knowledgeable advisors including those from the CDC and NIH, and let the convention walk vs risk the safety of citizens in NC.jhu72 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 5:36 pm … love the moron in chief. Excuse me That was said to me.

There’s no way Trump wins if he doesn’t win Florida.

Now did I put up a link to the Incredibly Gay Duo in response to you and another jumping on each other’s backs? Yes, I did. But I don’t use that word which starts with a “C”. That’s for porn movies and dirtbags. And what you put in quotes isn’t even close to what I’ve ever written which speaks to how you operate. The bunker anger and bitterness shines through. Didn’t anyone tell you Barnum and Bailey has shut down?
Care to apologize to 6?Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus

Couldn’t we all say that all you do is suck Trump’s d**k?
Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:06 am It’s a question and had you of read the thread and included him stating someone else was something that was an allegation based on pure conjecture then it’s a fair question as to whether he accepts the same treatment he dishes out. If he’s going to make statements about others that are conjecture then it’s fair to ask if the same statements of conjecture would be true to say about him. So no apology except to the people that have to deal with you on behalf of humanity.
6s anger and hatred of people is absurd. He has told me that I didn’t know anything or understand things. Made false claims and shot at others here for a while but like a typical resentful and bitter person who talks tough can’t handle anything coming his way. Thinks he’s a victim but doesn’t accept the problems he’s created in his life.
Two sets of clown shoes. Reading is fundamental. Lying and obfuscation is not, for someone so full of cognitive dissonance such as yourself.

hopefully they can continue to keep the case fatality rate down and they seem to be doing enough testing. younger cohort, maybe? biggest problem seems to be in the middle of the state, not the beaches. but that could be people carrying it back and forth and with other states.SCLaxAttack wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 1:10 amHonestly W, I don’t know. Personally I wish Cooper were taking a more aggressive stance re: masks, which he has only strongly recommended to this point. I believe not mandating them is an attempt to keep moderate Republicans on his side, as this D governor is up for re-election and is running against the state’s Lt. Governor. The Lt. Governor is a buy-the-book Trump fan who’s been running on a platform of “whatever Cooper’s for, I’m against.” Cooper has a slight lead in all recent polls. He beat the Republican incumbent in the last gubernatorial election by 1%.
It was a question. Do you not understand that?Peter Brown wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:14 amFarfromgeneva wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:06 am It’s a question and had you of read the thread and included him stating someone else was something that was an allegation based on pure conjecture then it’s a fair question as to whether he accepts the same treatment he dishes out. So you won't admit you said in fact what you said you didn't say, and further, you won't apologize to 6 for saying exactly what you claim you would never say? Interesting decisions.
You seem to parcel out a great deal of direct personal insults, which I think we can all agree tends to be a Democratic Party leaning characteristic. That's your prerogative, and me personally, I don't care at all. But, as a small matter of advice, I'd lay off the direct insults somewhat to fellow board posters (public figures, go to town!), ultimately it's self-defeating. Use the Brook or DocB or (yes) Peter Brown method of sweeping party member generalizations.
