Qckstk wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:08 pm Marist has looked pretty good in their scrimmages. Beat LIU and St. John’s convincingly, beat Albany and Hofstra by more. Took it on the chin from Vermont who is very good. Face offs could be an issue, but other than that they are solid across the board. Attack and LSM are top notch.
When did Marist scrimmage Hofstra and LIU Post?

Pretty good effort by Marist against Rutgers in a 13-10 loss. The attack, lsm, and close d are very strong and clearing was surprisingly crisp for early February, caused more turnovers than the last couple of seasons. Goalie had a strong performance in his first start. Just not going to win many games, especially against a very good team like Rutgers, going 7-27 on face offs. Marist did eventually turn to the lsm for face offs, and went 4-10 on those draws.

Rough Saturday for the top 2 preseason teams in the MAAC. Monmouth falls to Princeton 22-6. Marist falls to Richmond 18-4. Face offs are a huge issue for the Foxes, only winning 20% vs. Richmond’s Freshman fogo. The rope unit continues to struggle outside of the top pole, and the offense is out of sync due to injury.

Does Manhattan stand a chance to win the conference this season? Their defense and goalie looked quite good against Navy.

I think Manhattan has looked solid this year. I expect them to be in the conversation come playoffs and who knows how the teams develop throughout the year. Quinn has a Faceoff guy and a few teams including Manhattan have goalies who can be game changers. I think the conference can be won by any number of teams this year.

Not even March yet, but does look like it will be anyone’s for the taking. Thought Marist would be the favorite coming into the season, but not after losing the offensive qb J. Embury to an acl injury in the Rutgers game, along with continued face off struggles. It’s virtually impossible to win games going .270 on draws. Manhattan also struggles at the dot. Would pick St. Bonaventure as of now, D1 programs have a history of significantly improving in year 4.

After 2 weeks of Conference Play (Canisius & Monmouth had conference byes this weekend)

St.Bonaventure 7-2 / 2-0
Monmouth 4-3 / 1-0
Canisius 2-7 / 1-0
Manhattan 1-1 / 3-5
Marist 2-6 / 1-1
Siena 2-7 / 0-2
Quinnipiac 1-6 / 0-2

Observations so far:
Bonnies have fire power but tend to be a bit inconsistent on the offensive end
Two of the best goalies in the country reside in this conference as Dobson (SBU) and Krebs (Man) showed yesterday
Siena is an enigma as they play some really close games coming out on the short end
Canisius has inconsistent play quarter by quarter
Marists' defense is sneaky tough and they know how to muck up a game
Monmouth - have no idea lol

Monmouth’s Noah Lode had 15 saves yesterday I would add him to your list.

Haven’t really gotten to see Monmouth much this year, hence my I have no idea observation. Look forward to seeing him in Olean in two weeks.

St. Bonaventure 7-2 / 2-0
Manhattan 4-5 / 2-1
Marist 3-6 / 2-1
Monmouth 4-4 / 1-1
Canisius 2-8 / 1-1
Siena 3-7 / 1-2
Quinnipiac 1-7 / 0-3

Observations
Siena finally broke through in a powerful way crushing Monmouth in NJ (Hint they're pretty good)
Still not sure what to make of Monmouth next week will be interesting in Olean
Marist took care of a struggling Q in CT (defense still impresses me most)
Manhattan bounces back and takes care of Canisius with a strong 4th quarter
SBU's Dobson named Mid Season All American and added to the Tewaaraton List

SCHOOL CONF OVERALL
St. Bonaventure 3-0 8-2
Manhattan 3-1 5-5
Marist 2-1 3-7
Monmouth. 1-2 4-5
Canisius. 1-2 2-9
Siena 1-3 3-8
Quinnipiac. 1-3 2-7

Bonas takes care of business over Monmouth, with a game up on teams 2-4. It was a goalies kind of day.
Q gets off the conference Schnieder taking advantage of a terrible 3rd quarter from Canisius
Siena back on the wrong end of a one goal game with Manhattan.
Marist sandwiching their back week with Non con Princeton (L) and NJIT on Tuesday.

Not a lot tbd heading into the last weekend of the regular season. St. Bonaventure, Marist, and Manhattan have clinched tournament berths. Bona is a win at home over Canisius away from clinching the 1 seed, Manhattan is locked in as the 3. The 4 seed will go to Siena or Monmouth, with the Saints being heavy favorites to get in. Both are 2-3, Siena will be favored at home over Quinnipiac and Monmouth will be underdogs on the road at Marist. Siena owns the tie breaker.

It's been a very down season for the conference. The top MAAC team has been flirting with the top 20 in recent seasons, not the case this year. Below are the rankings out of 73 D1 teams for rpi / adjusted offensive efficiency / adjusted defensive efficiency prior to this past weekend. The Bonnies' D is ranked #11 thanks largely to having probably a 1st team AA goalie in Dobson. All other units are far below average for D1.

St. Bonaventure - 40/57/11

Marist - 42/50/56

Manhattan - 60/53/51

Siena - 61/62/46

Monmouth - 54/70/41

Quinnipiac - 67/56/67

Canisius - 70/65/64

Tournament will be held at Marist, I have heard, regardless of the outcomes on Saturday. Since St. Bonaventure is an affiliate member they are not allowed to host. Hey that's life!

I know that had been part of the process back in the days of VMI, Providence, etc., but according to the MAAC web site it looks like they’ve gone to highest seed, regardless:

Not surprisingly for the MAAC under Rich Ensor, but the site isn’t correct. Affiliates aren’t permitted to host postseason playoffs, and Marist will host since they’ve clinched at least the 2 seed. They don’t go as far as banning departing teams, so Monmouth does still have an outside chance in their last season in the conference.
