I know. Every “pull them up by the bootstrap story” of a silver spoon person I know has always come out and shown that person for the fraud they are.

Sort of like liberal progressive democrats snookering people of color for 6 decades.
Perhaps not for much longer. You can not fool the people forever.
Right, that's why people of color are marching in the streets, to praise Trump!!!
And that's why the Republicans are engaged in massive voter registration efforts in minority communities, and making it as easy as possible for them to vote!
Oh wait ...

Your TDS is showing. The people are in the streets supposedly against SYSTEMIC RACISM.
The systemic racism exhibited in democrat run cities and states for the last 6 decades.

Then the Republicans should be out registering as many of these folks as possible, since they're all going to vote Republican now ...

also, we elected a black POTUS.
Heck my interior designer is black and I love her like a sister. Want to get a Dem worked up? Tell them what I say ever day about my interior designer: I don't see her skin color, I only see her results. I'd pay her double if she'd ask. Does that make me a 'racist', that I look at her as a human being and not as a black woman?

It does not make you a racist.
But I wonder if she would LOL about the racism that she has experienced from others. Have you ever asked her about the effects of racism on her life? That might be an interesting conversation, if you have the guts to have it (including listening to what she says without judgment or dismissal, which I doubt you are able to do).
Also, the effects of systemic racism persist no matter what our individual attitudes are. Here, for example, is an analysis of the continuing effects of past redlining in Jacksonville:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... g-persists
Lesson: in 2020, it's not enough to not be a racist personally. The deep and persistent effects of the racism of our ancestors (and still too many of our fellow citizens) is still with us, and we are all called to take an active part in dismantling it.

It would be the zenith of arrogance to ask her '
how has racism affected you?' Like I have the right to ask her; if she wanted to bring it up, she could easily. What is it with liberals that they think that's an appropriate ask...maybe she wishes to be judged on her character and skills and not her skin color?
Like I said, she's like a sister; she and her family had Thanksgiving with me and mine last year at my house (white husband btw). Politics didn't come up; we talked the economy, my art hanging on the walls, my color blindness, her staffing issues, my paying her invoices without inquiring anything (which she assures is unique), local architecture, our crazy mayor, how well her kids are doing in school, etc.... Like any other normal conversation you'd have with any friend of yours. Why do you guys have to make everything about race?
My call is you are totally arrogant if you think you have the right to raise an issue which you were not invited to opine on.

You are just so clueless as to the lives of people of color. You think you know, but you don't. And you won't ask, because you are happy to remain in your state of self-imposed ignorance.

Or maybe I respect them far more than you.
Do you assume that everyone you know wishes for you to dive into their psyche when you talk with them? Maybe they'd simply like a lemonade and watch the sun set. Silence is underrated.

It's not "diving into their psyche", it's asking about what has happened to them in their lives. Which you apparently don't care about, despite claiming to be as close as brother and sister.

I thought this was a pretty solid post. Agree with you.
Not surprised at the response you got from PB. I have had this type of conversation numerous times with various AA employees I have had. They are enlightening for both me and I believe the AA employee. Never created a problem, has always been a positive experience. Never negatively effected the relationship or caused a problem. I don't think you do this with a stranger, but someone with whom you have a relationship of trust, it is not a problem. Just like if the individual is white.

'Hey tell me how has being born black caused you to be such a success in the industry of interior design?'
She's a massive success, CU77; she doesn't need my tears nor my advice for or on anything; heck, she's more successful than me; I need
her tears.
And if she wanted to discuss being an interracial family, she would, she certainly jokes about it!
Your attitude about POC seems patronizing, though I'm sure you do not see it that way. That doesn't mean you don't care about POC; you probably do.
My experience is such that people who talk too much about POC usually don't have the ability to treat POC as equals. I do. Like I said, she's my better by a mile.

I don't think you ask the question in such a fashion. Try this - "so what do you think of what was in the news last night and this morning? I don't get why the police had to shoot the kid in the back".

i only ask because often i see non-POCs being told that they can't possibly imagine/empathize. even if they ask.

I know a person very very well that lost all the equity in his home back in the 1970’s. In Boston, the only insurance he could get only covered the mortgage holder. He had a lot of equity in the home, it sustained a fire, the back was paid out up to the value of the mortgage and he lost all of his equity despite paying years and years of insure premiums. It took him 15 years to recover. That’s how you impair wealth creation....you dictate where they can buy via policies bans then how they protect asset value by insurance redlining. Folks in Needham and Newton has their equity protected in the event of a fire.

know who maybe doesnt agree?
a lesson sometimes ends with a quiz- who said it:
“I don’t feel responsible for the sins of my father and grandfather. I feel responsible for what the situation is today, for the sins of my own generation, and I’ll be damned if I feel responsible to pay for what happened 300 years ago.”

Biden said it.
Forty-five years ago.
Maybe people can evolve in their thinking over 45 years? I certainly have.
And even if he had said it yesterday, Biden is still approximately one zillion times better on racial issues than Bunker Boy.

True, some people can evolve in their thinking ... can’t say for sure about some chairpersons ... or some boards ... but generally true!

all true, but i question whether that's how it will be perceived. it's pretty strong language.
also, i don't necessarily disagree with it. it may reflect how many voters may think in america today.
