Why is a 7-7 team in the top 20??

Coaches need to stop rewarding names and pasts and vote on present day merits. It's insulting to do otherwise.
And now it's two 7-8 teams in the top 20?? REALLY? Why? Can anyone explain the rationale and fairness behind that vote?

Oh, doncha know Larry? It’s the SOS and the RPI mixed in with some of the staff knows some of the coaches. Just thank your lucky stars that they aren’t relying solely on the SOS or else you’d see California and Dartmouth in the polls this week. It’s all subjective in the end. Right down to the asinine so called straight math equations. You could come up with just as good a poll. To quote Sheehan Stanwick Burch: “As we know, the polls mean nothing.” They don’t mean anything beyond a group of people having an opinion. Just fodder for conversation. You’re looking in the wrong place if you’re expecting the rankings/polls to hold fast to any standard that bears up under scrutiny or logic. Until a better ranking system is adopted in women’s college lacrosse, we are stuck with the shanty RPI and SOS formulas and the polls they often influence.

I really don't care about rankings. A good team can have a bad record and vice versa. Let's look at resume. Don't really want to touch the top 10 right now. Going off IL's current rankings, and including RPI top-40 wins only:

11 JMU: W UConn, OSU, Richmond, UVA, MD, Towson; L UNC, VT, PSU, Rutgers. Up-and-down but seem to have steadied the ship.
12 Princeton: W UVA, Temple, Cornell, USC, PSU; L Loyola, SBU, MD
13 UMass: W Vandy, Richmond, St Joes; L BC, UConn. Too high.
14 Rutgers: W Army, Georgetown (RPI 41), Temple, JMU, JHU, Michigan; L MD, ASU, NU
15 UConn: W UMass, Cornell, Albany; L JMU, Denver. Why are they behind UMass??

16 UVA: W Stanford, Richmond, Louisville; L MD, Princeton, BC, ND, Cuse, JMU, Duke, UNC (all solid teams except ND)
17 USC: W Jax, CO x2, ASU, Michigan; L Princeton, Stanford x2. Really not a bad loss here IMO... the USC-Stanford rivalry is a different animal
18 ND: W UVA, Jax, Yale; L Michigan, Vandy, NU, Cuse, VT, Duke, UNC, BC. Fine except VT and Vandy losses
19 Richmond: W Stanford, St. Joe's, Davidson; L UVA, JMU, UMass. Meh
20 Michigan: W ND, ASU, Towson, JHU, PSU; L Denver, NU, Rutgers, USC, OSU. WAY too low at 20.

21 Stanford: W Albany, ASU, USC x2, CO; L Cuse, Denver, Richmond, UVA, CO, ASU. The Pac12 really beats up on itself.
22 Jax: W VT, Cornell; L USC, UNC, ND
23 ASU: W CO x2, Rutgers, Stanford; L Michigan, NU, Stanford, USC, Florida, SBU. Only things holding this team back from a higher ranking are Michigan being too low and splitting with Stanford. Ridiculous IMO
24 Navy: W JHU; L St. Joe's, Georgetown
25 Yale: W Albany, Penn, Army, Cornell; L BC, ND

Additional RPI top-40 teams with at least one RPI top-40 win:
NR Temple: W Army, St. Joe's, Vandy; L Princeton, Rutgers, Delaware, Cuse
NR OSU: W PSU, Louisville, Michigan; L Denver, CO, JMU, NU, MD
NR JHU: W Penn, Georgetown, Towson; L Loyola, Navy (by 1), SBU, Michigan, Rutgers, MD. IMO this team should be ranked ahead of Navy.
NR PSU: W Cornell, JMU, St. Joe's, Towson; L Drexel, Loyola, Princeton, OSU, NU, Michigan. If it weren't for the Drexel loss... but this is still more impressive than Navy IMO
NR Louisville: W VT, Vandy; L CO, Denver, BC, UNC, Duke, UVA, OSU, Pitt, Cuse
NR Vandy: W ND, Towson; L CO, Denver, UMass, Temple, Louisville, Florida
NR VT: W JMU, ND; L Jax, Liberty, Louisville, Cuse, UNC, BC, Duke
NR CO: W Louisville, OSU, Vandy, Stanford; L USC x2, ASU x2, Stanford. This team has a real case to be ranked...
NR Towson: W St. Joe's, Georgetown; L MSM, Loyola, Michigan, PSU, Vandy, JMU, JHU
NR Penn: W Georgetown; L JHU, Loyola, Harvard, Duke, MD, Yale, NU, Cornell
NR St. Joe's: W Navy, Davidson; L MD, Temple, Towson, PSU, Richmond, UMass
NR Cornell: W Albany, Penn; L PSU, Princeton, UConn, Jax, Cuse, Yale
NR Georgetown: W Navy; L Rutgers, HJU, Loyola, Penn, Towson, MD, Denver

Personally I'd move UMass and UConn down (I really have no idea why these teams are this high); USC, Michigan, ASU up. There's my top 16. Maybe bring OSU and JHU into the mix. Maybe CO ahead of Yale. To your point Larry, there are a lot of 20-25 and NR teams that have resumes as or more impressive than UVA and ND.

AND DONT FORGET---ND had to quickly find a win (not on original schedule) so they scheduled an April 5th Detroit Mercy game to ensure a shot at being .500

Is it that a team has to finish the regular season with a record of 0.500 or have a record of 0.500 after conference tournaments are done? Because if I was ND I would've tried to find 2 wins going in to ACC's so you have the cushion to lose a game in the tournament and finish at 0.500.

Thanks that’s what I thought, too. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going in to the conference tournament at 0.500 as a bottom half seed in the ACC this year

If only your stupid nickname for them would exit with them! UVA, Cavs, Wahoos, 'Hoos, all widely used. None of those work for you?

Me too. As you can see higher up on that page he referenced, I questioned it. As a kid who grew up in VA and as an adult who lives there, I understand the historical "Carry me back to Old Virginny" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyhQYOxTHaw...but as a nickname for the Hoos, Ginny is a little grating to me.

But one thing that I have learned with ONW, he drums to his own beat (see what I did there?)
