Jerry Price is a national treasure. He is the best storyteller in the world of lacrosse and college athletics communications.

I completely agree. I've corresponded with him a few times over the years, when we were both in the business of working out ILT possibilities. Great guy.

Wow. This is remarkable. Thank you. The story represents some old school magazine journalism. This is rare stuff these days.

Yeah, as someone said just above, Jerry Price is kind of in a class of his own with these sorts of narratives. Like John McPhee meets Ivy Sports. Just terrific stuff.

Great piece. MD, not being a jerk, I ask sincerely. Any reason to believe that Dartmouth is heading in a better direction? I'd love to see the Ivies become the nations best conference, top to bottom.

Fingers crossed.
It's going to be interesting to see whether the new AD is supportive.

What I do know is that alumni giving to lax Friends has doubled over the past few years, now rivaling other Ivy programs and enabling much better pay scales and technology etc. Recruiting appears to be very good. Quality of play, to my eye, has improved a whole lot...but the entire league has elevated, so breaking through remains a big challenge.

I might be behind the times on this one. I see that Austin Madronic of Harvard was drafted #6 in the NLL Draft, and is listed as a Harvard graduate. My understanding is that he has one more year of NCAA eligibility. I wonder if there is any news as to grad school plans, or if his college playing days are over.

Someone mentioned that he is done with college lacrosse. Moving on.

Not much real insight or inside dirt, although some may quibble with Yale above Princeton:

I'm expecting another terrific season for the Ivy in 2023. In any other league, Dartmouth... but...still, maybe...

Author doesn't say anything abt predicting, only order I see is that the first 4 were the IL tourney teams. I'm a natural pessimist, so I will sign on right now to Bruno in 3rd if it happens. "Just make the conference tourney" is the target for all but the BlueBloods.

Handley was named the USILA Midfielder of the Year becoming only the second Penn player to do so since 1977.
I would have thought Chris Flynn might have won for midfield
of the year,

but you had all-timers during that timeframe,
you had the Gaits, you had Del Dressel.

True, the author doesn't, and the article seems to have been hastily assembled. Anything to spark a bit of conversation.

Funny I follow Cornell a little bit bc of hobart relationship and know the university quite well but somehow whenever I see it written as Cornell university it jumps at me. They all are universities in Ivies I get but see optically Harvard U more than Cornell U.

To me is just Cornell. Like Prince. Or ideally like Kanye for all future games against Bart…
