2 of the articles that came out on it both implied he had expected to get his yale degree regardless of playing at another school in 2021. a number of us were specious on how that would work, other(s) guessing that possibly he already had the credits for it.. too much was vague to know for sure how it all would play out.

but a yale degree was implied and noted.
good, but it's indeed problematic in all sorts of ways as he shouldn't have been able to play this year for Yale if he'd already satisfied the credits requirement...but it's in the time of COVID, so who knows...

Dual Enrollment, it not like it is something new....loop hole for playing on a team, maybe, b/c of COVID and IL keeping kids off campus. Maybe he is smarter than the IL educational snobs. ;)

I can’t imagine him not graduating from Yale. He was on track to graduate last Spring. I don’t believe he withdrew but I could be wrong.

He may be in a pickle. Even if games are played, I have no idea how competitive the Yale team will be. I thought a lot of players took the year off? Time will tell.

Did he really just swap a Yale degree for Denver degree to play FOGO in a season that may not finish to the end?

The ultimate definition of shortsightedness.

Yeah, he makes these moves to get a better education and hang out with folks where he's a better fit.
Either that or he was chasing a title via the transfer route when he bailed on Albany. Didn't work out.

Sure looks like he's wanted a title... got to the title game with Yale. Now we'll have an ex-Princeton coach with three ex-Yale players. Interested to see how Cotler fares.

I can’t imagine at the end of this he will graduate with a Denver degree if he ends up taking only one or two classes there. He probably has something worked out to get it from Yale but what the plan is and what convolutions it entails I have no idea. Nothing against him wanting to chase a title and working within the system and good luck to him. All that said (and this is the NCAAs fault, not TD), this is pretty ridiculous. A second transfer, days before the season starts, to a school he may not even finish a single class at, when he may well already have met requirements to graduate from another, is really a sham. Trying to give everyone an extra year for COVID was well intentioned but a terrible idea from the start. At this point though, enough. It makes a mockery of the sport to just abandon all eligibility rules the second someone invokes “COVID”.

So the kid wants to play college lacrosse and have the chance to compete for a National Championship? Good for him!

Transfer from UAlbany to Yale… how many current UAlbany players would do that if they had the opportunity, could handle the course load, afford it and Yale had better odds at winning a NCAA championship? My guess is most of them. I’m certainly not looking at that move as anything but smart on TD’s part.

Yale to Denver: On the brink of missing out on his second and most likely final college lacrosse season. Several former teammates who have probably been saying “come on, come play with us”! It’s been stated that he will still receive his degree from Yale (don’t know, but that’s what I read and most likely could happen). Assuming he has had additional guidance from coaches, faculty, outside “experts” as to his options and what this transfer means for his academic future. So here we are.

Also of note, I’m not penciling TD in as the starter just yet. That Stathakis kid is a stud! Now IMO with TD it gives Denver the best 1 – 2 punch at the FO X in college lacrosse… hope we get to watch it.

pcow, don't disagree with your points either. NCAA didn't do any favors with their decision making.

BREAKING: Former Yale faceoff specialist @td_ierlan announces that he plans to transfer to @DU_MLAX for his final season of NCAA lacrosse.

After entering the transfer portal last week, Ierlan broke the news to @Turn_Rake13 and published author @nickossello on @the_post_game.

He says he is waiting on NCAA to approve the transfer and expects to be there in a week or two.

If the transfer happens (and there seems to be some work to do there between Yale, Denver and the NCAA), he won't get in a game until around March 19-21, when DU's next academic quarter begins.

He would likely be eligible for Villanova game on March 21, DU's ninth game.

Nobody is faulting TD for doing what the rules tell him is allowed and shame on the Ivy league for the pusillanimity that led to this but, that said, I don't think this is leaving anyone with a good taste in their mouth. It appears he is parachuting in for a few months of games and taking one class that will then transfer back to Yale...which he still plans on graduating from and where he still has to do his senior thesis...which means he is going to have to re-enroll there again...meaning this "transfer" stretches the meaning of that word pretty much beyond recognition. Completely understand him wanting to play his senior year of lax but part of the reason we go to college is to start to become acquainted with the real world where you don't get things just because you want them and where nobody cares if you think something that doesn't go your way "isn't fair". Another reality of the world of course is that special dispositions are made for special talents but this whole process stinks something awful.

I can see where you are coming from, pcowlax. It certainly does stretch the concept of transfer into a new dimension, with what would be a full time undergrad at one school (Denver) earning his degree at Yale, another school. There are a lot of implications here when you play them out, and most of them scream mercenary...

However, if Yale, Denver and the NCAA all agree that it is legal and in the best interests of the student-athlete, I am ok with it, as we are in strange times with Covid-19 (of course I'd say that as a Denver fan!). That said, it is a once-in-a-100-year pandemic and morally-speaking, the extra year of eligibility granted to all athletes by the NCAA (but subsequently denied by the Ivies) should allow all senior Ivy student athletes to play anywhere else for their final season as a reward for their sacrifices (if their Ivy teams are not playing), if they so choose - as those athletes should not be penalized just because their own conference prefers not to play.
