no, he was very bad; both on field and off field culture.
He made a bad situation worse.
It became very obvious, very quickly.

You are correct that there are "lot's of "bad" guys in coaching"...and one could make the argument that some of those flaws make less difference at certain schools/situations...and..."just win baby".

But I think that does a disservice to the players and the sport, regardless of school...and, IMO, there are enough "good" guys out there who can and should coach who would, ultimately, be better for the players and the sport. Attract them, reward them, teach them to be the best coaches they can be, and give them the jobs... not the "bad" guys, regardless of whether the "bad" guy was a good player himself.

But I understand that not everyone agrees with that point of view.

"just win baby" is definitely compelling in the short term.
And it's certainly possible that a "bad" guy can deliver that 'winning', if that's the only priority.
I am not sure I agree with characterizing him as a "bad guy." I have asked a bunch of coaches about Tim and everyone has glowing things to say about him, but it is always with the caveat that he is not for everyone. My guess about his time in Hanover was that is was just a really bad fit all around. Towers (I know he is a great PLL coach) was a train wreck in every sense, and Tim was his assistant and was caught up in that. The entire culture was a mess and anyone around the program had choices to make. Tim's choices were probably not great, but from all accounts he is not an Ivy League type of guy.

Curious about how AT was a train wreck as a college coach. I'm a fan of his PLL work but know that his Dartmouth teams weren't successful. But what were the culture issues and "choices people had to make"? If it's confidential then i understand and no need to respond.

The L.I. Express didn't exist back then. Most of us played in the Jones Beach Summer League. Richie Moran was a player/coach and master of summer hijinks. I learned a lot from him; both about lacrosse and enjoying life.

I have information that Mickey Herring, OC/Recruiting Coordinator for VMI (formerly of UVA/Middie) is headed to UMBC. Good luck to him. No specific information on his new job or his replacement (yet).

Will be interesting to see who replaces him. Last year VMI improved across the board with the youngest team in DI. Next year moving to the MAAC where they should be competitive.

So much for that public denial from Tillman. But sounds like he had to for HR purposes.

Chris Jast strikes again!

I have little patience for scoops or inside info in lacrosse.

But that Tillman made a great choice,

Curious what kind of candidates Mercer can attract. Are they in that Kirwan/Wellner/Georgalas/etc. tier of top assistants who have showed interest in previous openings, or just below? They've never been good, but they are also not often very *bad*, which could suggest some potential there given it's a relatively new program in a non-traditional area.

Also, heard Hobart assistant Kyle Turri is leaving to join his brother at St. John's

Except Hobart is advertising for an OC. Brundage has been terrific, so we'd hate to see him go. Terri has handled D, Goalies and FO.

Mercer has pretty strong academics. I would think they target a coach that has been at a high academic place and can recruit from the south.

With all due respect to Mercer, I don't think that is the job guys like Kirwan and Wellner leave for.

That very well may be the case but I wouldn't discount it completely. That's what everyone said about Reppert and Holy Cross. Both Kirwan and Wellner have interviewed for HC jobs in less-than-ideal situations. Maybe now Wellner thinks he can get ND when Corrigan retires but there's no path for Kirwan at UVA and I doubt he'd be a candidate at Duke. He might have been in the mix at Michigan had that opened up but Conry apparently earned himself an extension by losing the last 8 games of the year in a row. I digress, but these gigs don't grow on trees and if someone really wants to lead his own program they often have to "settle" for a job that on the surface doesn't look wildly appealing. Without knowing how much Mercer is paying it's tough to know exactly what caliber of candidate they can get.

Agree. The hard work has been done at Mercer. Getting a program started and established isn’t easy and they have done a nice job recruiting. There is talent there and high school lacrosse in the southeast is booming. I think it is a great opportunity for a coach to show their worth. It is ‘easy’ to be a good coach when you have 5 star talent every year but if you can win at a place like Mercer, win the conference and show up
In the national tournament then I would think you would be a front runner for the ‘ideal’ jobs.
