Author is Reagan White House, Cato Institute and an economist not a medical person. The other authors are also economists, not medical types.

I'll put my $2 on this report not holding up. We'll see.

If it doesn't hold up, I'm sure Newsmax, The Blaze and The Washington Times (all giving the report heavy rotation today) will of course cover that story too.

Not putting to fine a point on it, they then average the results (not really but the best way to describe it quickly). This paper will likely take a lot of heat for its methodology. Meta-analysis papers always seem to. Steve Hanke the PI, is a good guy for a Reagan republican that believes in trickle down economics. This is not going to be accepted as the answer without a great deal of analysis of the paper by other economists and data scientists including epidemiologists.
eat papa, eat. ........"Reagan" (how are you allowed to still post? different strokes, for folks of difference....got it )

But....YES....please, more research is welcome. Can't speak for others, but has always been the ask: more research. More discussion. More ideas.

instead...... many "leaders" , Fauci included, decided to go all Jim Carville on other medical folks, digging deep to put them down. We seeing it with Rogan now. who, apparently, the bigpharma media outlets, are going full "racist" on Joe.

But, YES........all we want is more research. Many Wanted modern day tracking of covid shot success, side effects, etc. Mandatory. What the heck, you have to put your email in.....how HARD is this.

This, fact alone, that we had no system, nor care to implement one, meant our public health officials, at best Are lousy at their jobs. And now to the only method of collecting "data" on shot effect, is laughed at by same crowd.

After three levels of screening, 34 studies ultimately qualified. Of those 34 eligible studies, 24 qualified for inclusion in the meta-analysis. They were separated into three groups: lockdown stringency index studies, shelter-in-place order (SIPO) studies, and specific NPI studies. An analysis of each of these three groups support the conclusion that lockdowns have had little to no effect on COVID-19 mortality. More specifically, stringency index studies find that lockdowns in Europe and the United States only reduced COVID-19 mortality by 0.2% on average. SIPOs were also ineffective, only reducing COVID-19 mortality by 2.9% on average. Specific NPI studies also find no broad-based evidence of noticeable effects on COVID-19 mortality.

While this meta-analysis concludes that lockdowns have had little to no public health effects, they have imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted. In consequence, lockdown policies are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy
instrument.
I don't understand. There isn't a State/Country in the 1st world that didn't have movement restrictions.....many of them non-governmental. E.G. arenas completely shut down, working from home, closed borders etc.

They don't have a control. They can't point to a country or State that lived normally to see what would happen.

I cried after seeing a 7 month old baby today.......tears of joy. this smiling baby, was so happy to see others smiling back. no masks

Would rather see studies/research into the effects, to those 30, and younger......these lockdowns.

You can hind behind the "antidocte" card, but WPI (Worcester Poly Tech ) has had 7 suicides this year. Research that.

If Hopkins made Baltimore a better city, we could tolerate the grifting. But, they don't. Same with producing open minded graduates.

It is just more information. Not right, or wrong, just information. Best way to look at it. Draw your own conclusions from this information.

Is that what we are supposed to always do? Post things, to prove ourselves RIGHT.........or wrong.......... ?

Just go back and read the hateful comments about the Wuhan lab leaks....... prior to May 2021, on this site. (well in this case, they just wanted you to go away....misinformation card )

... I quickly took another look at the paper, specifically looking for their notice of funding agency -- which is required. There was none. Which means this was funded by Hopkins itself or the funding came from a source that does not require a notice of funding source. I am guessing the later as there was not a word about who funded this, but it was not the US government.

N95 masks probably don’t work but I don’t care. It’s routine now…like wearing a hat.

A total of 213 deaths in a land of nearly 8 million people. I'd say that's not too shabby at all.

You never disappoint, brookie......keep on bashing Johns Hopkins research.

Look again - I did not bash JHop's research conclusions. In fact, I did not bother to address them at all.

I have discussed international mitigation methods before and there is no doubt that quarantine is the best method. History proves it. The international experience with covid has confirmed it. This success insures that we keep our freedom from disease. That may not be what people like you want. But it's what the rest of us want.

... excellent video. Everyone should watch. My wife's organization had not been requiring N-95, but were using surgical masks and face shields. When omicron hit, the MD department of health required them to use N-95. Department of Health had noticed areas of stagnant airflow in their offices and labs which would become bigger traps with the larger omicron R. Weren't concerned with the same areas with earlier lower R variants.
