gymman1031 wrote: Thu Jun 09, 2022 5:40 am All the more reason for Conry to prove he was worthy of that extension. And, once again, it all starts with:

-Getting the first double-digit win season in program history.
-Finishing in the top four in the Big Ten.
Number 1 seems like such a low bar. He can just add a few more Anish cupcake specials to the schedule from this past season.

Number 2 is a pretty sad goal, because that one feels like it is just bound to happen as a matter of probability.

That university spent a lot of money on facilities and fully funded their team to compete. They’ve been in the league since it started in 2015. Those goals should have been accomplished some time back. I would assume to prove worthy of the extension, more significant progress needs to be achieved and quickly.
Yes, I agree with a lot of that. And, with Conry now having his players, and him having recruited quite well, it SHOULD be, at least close to being:

now or ever

PS-Number two is not a complete given in any way.
How many times can you talk about Michigan and say the same thing?
Yes, that is true. I have said it a lot. I just said it one more time due to the news about the contract extension.
Move this to the Michigan thread.

Benson to Providence looks official now (tweet was also liked by the Providence lacrosse account...)

Interesting that Eric Wolfs name appears for two of the openings. It seems hes building a competitive program at LIU, curious if its not the best situation.

I was thinking the same thing... Maybe all is not good in LIU world?

There is a reason why basically the entire athletic department has flipped in the last couple of years at LIU. Good for him, I hope he finds his way out of that mess.

Must be REALLY bad if your considering jumping to perennial bottom dwellers NJIT and Umass Lowell

Just ask the former football staff.

Pure conjecture: maybe something to do with merger of 2 schools?
From an article at the time of the merger
Coaches from LIU Post that head teams played at both schools will also likely have to look for jobs elsewhere.

The merge between two athletic departments – especially of two different divisions – has the potential to lead to reductions in both staff and rosters. The compositions of each team will ultimately be up to the University’s discretion.

Also the jump from D2 to D1. Football went to 1AA so they needed a new coach to compete at that level. This happened with lacrosse as well as John Jez was essentially pushed out so that they could hire Eric Wolf.

Regarding the St. Johns thought of Michigan's Justin Turri perhaps being the favorite now, makes sense. He's a Long Island guy with previous east coast experience - Harvard, West Point, Providence.

If he packs the wife, kids and bags and drives to Long Island, that’s a kick in the crotch to the Wolverines. Looking at their past season, they scored a ton against lower tier schools but were stifled when it came to top-20 type competition. They had an offensive issue that led to a losing record. Who do the Wolverines tap to take over the offense and get them competitive in conference?

3 D-Coordinators in three years for PSU. That’s a shame. Does there become a time when it’s not the coordinator?

I was going to say the CW Post LIU Brooklyn merger shook up a lot of things. And obviously it was driven by economics.

Its B1G play,

a lot of pressure, look at the goings on at Michigan and
Johns Hopkins.

While not quite as extreme as a kid going to a different high school for three consecutive years, for Penn State's defensive players, that is along the same lines. Hard to get much of a flow going with that many different coaches.
