I came away with the opposite impression. Michigan to me looked like the better team but Ohio State’s gargantuan faceoff advantage kept them in it. I don’t think Michigan ever trailed? Pretty impressive considering they lost nearly every faceoff. Ohio State’s offense looked dysfunctional without LeClaire to stretch the field. Mich, which is certainly not known for its defense, could just pack it in. That kid Decaprio is a menace. I’m glad this put the Jays in the conference tourney but it also just makes it all the more frustrating that they blew a big lead to this team. OSU in my eyes does not belong in the NCAA tournament. Hopkins very well may not either but I can’t see the committee putting the Buckeyes in when they went 1-4 in their own conference and this dud was the last impression they’ll have of the team.
UM goalie was playing out of his mind the whole game. Hard to win by outstanding goalkeeping on a consistent basis. I'm not taking anything away from Michigan with that statement, only saying that I feel like the particularly (unusually?) strong play in goal was a big factor in their win.
He did make some nice saves, but the box score says he only finished with 9 (47%) on the day. So it's not like it was a dominant effort. Michigan was doing pretty much whatever it wanted on offense. How many times did they work for a wide open look in the slot or right around GLE? The interior of OSU's defense was not good. According to LaxReference, Michigan had 13 goals on 35 possessions—that's a very, very good 37% offensive efficiency. Ohio State had 12 more possessions and won 92% of the faceoffs. That Mich could win by three despite that lopsided possession differential tells me they were stronger on both ends of the field and played a better overall game.

I have an idea for Hopkins tonight. Guard Wisnaukus tight ! What a concept! Your not talking Mikey Powell, Billy Miller. You can seal him off . Has certainly improved his quickness but it’s doable!

Interestingly, no one has done that this year, so I wonder how the Terps would respond. Teams have shut Bernhardt off on the EMO but not in 6-on-6. When Maryland's second midfield is on, I wonder if that's the time to shut Bernhardt off. When their first line is on, Fairman would run the offense.

me too: practice game, sandbag. Show the terps nothing new. Give the bench some minutes. Come back and surprise them next week, and then take down PSU.

Win-win.

Hopkins and Rutgers both sand bag. Then win their semifinals. I gotta be honest... I don’t really want to see Penn State again.

Rutgers - PSU coming down to the end, tied.
Looks like State will get the last shot.
Nice goose to Ament, to Kelly, for the win.
I was going to rip Kneese but he did make a good save at the end.

I think tOSU and Hopkins are very close for 3rd best team this season, with Rutgers not far behind. If you held a gun to my head and made me pick, though, I'd pick the same team as you - Ohio State - as the 3rd best. If Ohio State doesn't mess up and lose to Michigan next week, I think they are NCAA bound.
I don't see that top 10 win for Hopkins, where as OSU did knock off Notre Dame.

penn state anywhere from 1 seed to top 4.
Maryland anywhere from a top 4 seed to not hosting.
Hopkins needs 1 win at least to make ncaas 2 and maybe a home game.
Rutgers needs to win out to make ncaas.
OSU-needs the chalkiest of weeks if it's not already cooked.

Anywhere from 2-4 bid league, I'd say 2 given that the Hopkins we saw yesterday wasn't the program we've seen all year. I haven't done the research into hopkins/maryland/rutgers/penn state records in the b1g and against teams they've beaten/lost to previously in regular season. @d1scourse said this is the first time Hopkins and maryland will play in back to back games but obviously we've seen testudo in the postseason before.

here's the schedule-the fates of loyola, cornell and towson are probably of most interest to Hopkins/rutgers/osu. Would imagine a lot of folks in ithaca and columbus will have dual screens watching towson and hopkins play at 730 thursday night.

The Big Ten brackets are set:
Penn State vs Rutgers 5pm
Johns Hopkins vs Maryland 7:30
all at Rutgers on Thursday.
I wonder if Rutgers will be allowed to blow their truck horn.

The All-Big Ten team will be coming out this week.
Ament, Arceri, and Bernhardt seem like likely first teamers.
Epstein will probably be freshman of the year.

All such artificial noise horns should be outlawed by the NCAA, unless your team name is Railroad (or Robber Barons, here's looking at you Stanford).

I’m very fond of our (Tech’s) steam whistle. I’m very not fond of Mississippi State’s CLANGA and other similar ones.

This just in: Penn State is good. Their offense gets so much attention, but their defense is totally stuffing Rutgers, who is working on a near 25-minute scoring drought.

I have a hard time seeing how Penn State isn’t the number one seed in the NCAAs, even if they don’t win the B1G.
It would have to be a pretty eye popping win from Duke, or one of the Ivies to unseed the Lions.

Yeah I mean unless Yale dominates their way to win the Ivy tourney, PSU has been really dominant this season.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hop versus Penn State, wow, what a game. Penn State in a close game is about as fun to watch as it gets... but two weeks ago who thought JHU was capable of hanging with the Nittany Lions?

A week ago, Hopkins was on life support and the Terps were looking at a 3 or 4 seed in the NCAAT. Not sure I can remember such a reversal in a single week. Unreal.

Delaneys replacement gets unveiled tomorrow (he was there 30 years). I'm sure it won't be in the press conference as to things he's asked about but it'll be an eventual step towards clarity on the longterm fate of lacrosse and perhaps Hopkins place in it.
