If you are going to use opponents RPI as a guage of difficulty, then use RPI of the other team. Hopkins is #4 RPI.
Bryant hasn’t had a tough schedule (explaining, in part, their low RPI), but they’re a pretty good team.ICGrad wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 3:09 pmI can't believe this isn't getting more discussion.
#4 Maryland is playing Army, #17 RPI
#5 Penn State is playing Princeton (!), #9 RPI
...
#7 Georgetown is playing Yale, #11 RPI
#8 Cornell is playing Michigan, #12 RPI
#6 Johns Hopkins is playing Bryant, #33 RPI
Hopkins got a better draw than Duke and Virginia, as well; Virginia plays 23 Utah, Duke gets an opponent with a to 20 RPI.
Hopkins may have fallen to a 6 seed with their blowout loss to Maryland in the Big10 semis, but they were gifted with a matchup worthy of a 2 seed. Maybe the committee wanted to be sure to avoid yet another first round whitewashing.
My bad; I was looking at the Massey ratings.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 3:12 pm
Would a 2 seed get Notre Dame in the second round? Enough with the crying. It's incessant. Yeah, they got an easier 1st round matchup than PSU and Maryland but a much harder quarterfinal/FF path. It's a wash. Ask Tillman if he'd like to switch with Hopkins and I guarantee he'd say no.
BTW, Bryant is #19 RPI, not 33.
Duke, UVA, and ND all individually have flaws but collectively they're probably a tier ahead of every other team in the tournament. I don't think the gap between those tiers is insurmountable, but it does make it likely that one of the three hoists the trophy on memorial day. It helps that they are seeds #1-3 and they won't cross paths until the Final Four or championship game.

Sure there is a lot of ND hate out there, but you have to admit that both Michigan and Georgetown only look like great wins now.Laxinmay wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 4:08 pm Since my son graduated in May I have watched a lot of lacrosse. I know my eyes deceive me a lot but what is ND missing that Duke and UVA have? All things considered, ND lost to Virginia twice, beat Duke by 5, Michigan by 10, UNC by 9 and 9, Syracuse by 8, Georgetown by 7.
If just NCAA tourney teams:
Michigan by 10
Georgetown by 7
Duke by 5
Maryland by 1
Sure I have been saying they are top tier all year but seems that you either love ND or you just hate them.
For one thing lacrosse tradition and multiple National Championship titles are a big difference. It doesn't help when your stars get a rep for taking cheap shots after the whistle and your coach allows it to continue. That doesn't mean they can't win it all this year but they haven't until they finally have.Laxinmay wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 4:08 pm Since my son graduated in May I have watched a lot of lacrosse. bcos the term fits better with women's lax (and is therefore easier for the TV interns to grasp)?laxfan1313 wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 7:22 pm In men's lacrosse, during a penalty, one team is man up. So what's with the woke BS that it has now become "player up?"
Thanks I had commented on another thread it looked like a fresh set of FF teams for the first time in a while. 16yrs is a while. That was Del and UMBC w Hop and someone else that year right?
