believe caldwell played a zone - that tends to slow down SHP considerably. caldwell is a pretty good team - i guess county final nerves might have gotten to SHP - same with the state tourney.
Caldwell did play zone against SHP and the goalie stood on his head.

Caldwell came close to taking down #6 BWR today, losing 10-8. The game was 5-5 at Halftime. It was another great showing for Caldwell's goalie. Caldwell may play the toughest schedule in the state.
While they do play a tough one it’s not a fitch-pitt schedule. Delby, SHP, bosco, Westfield, etc all play tougher schedules. Caldwell is good but not that good. I usually thing SHP plays too much club ball - I don’t think they prepared much for the final being they throttled Caldwell 19-2 the first time they played them.
Caldwell's plays a comparable schedule to Westfield, 5 common opponents, SHP twice for Caldwell. The parochials are a different story.

Caldwell has a 1st year goalie that has gotten a lot better as the season progressed. They have shortened the line-up since the 1st SHP game, playing a more ball control offense. They really have no choice, not a lot of depth on the roster.
like i said - caldwell plays a good scheduled and they're a good team. they won't compete with lakes in group 1 north IMO.

if you go on laxnumbers you'll see SOS - caldwell 85.07, westfield 86.26.
I Agree about ML, Caldwel won't beat them if they even get that far. I think RFH takes G1 this year.

dominant 10-3 win by ML; 5-3 at half, pitched a 2nd half shut out.

surprised how dominant chatham was - i thought ridge was going to compete.
west essex with a valiant effort against summit just coming up short.

so the group finals are as follows:

A: Delby/SHP
B: Gill/PDS
1: Lakes/Rumson
2: Summit/Wall
3: Chatham/Shawnee
4: Ridgewood/Cherokee

my picks in bold

Fairly safe bets. Only one team from the "south" has won a group final in the last 20 years - Moorestown (2x). And, as far as Rumson being a team from the "south", I guess you gotta draw the line somewhere but that isn't Southern New Jersey.

Rumson is south of Driscoll Bridge....and I think Moorestown record will remain intact.

Well looks like South Jersey added another champ. Chatham was barely in the game but for a few brief moments. Congratulations Renegades.

Shawnee a bit of a surpise to me. Great game by them. Gill beat PDS this morning, delby/SHP tied at half as I type this!

Delby over SHP in 3OT.

A: Delby
B: Gill St. Bernard’s
1: RFH
2: Summit
3: Shawnee
4: Ridgewood.

For the Kirst Cup I’d imagine delby and rfh would have a bye, if they’re sticking to TOC type seeding.

I saw somewhere that the Semi's are on 6/15/23 and Final's are on 6/17/23. Not sure about the first round, but I would venture a guess to either 6/12 or 6/13.

Replaced with the "Kirst Cup" beginning this year. Same format. 6 teams, 2 get byes. Begins next week and ends on 6/17/23. Schedule to probably be announced tomorrow I would imagine.

A bit disappointing to the Kirst Cup, it doesn’t look like Shawnee is going to be participating.

Seeds:
1-Delbarton (20-5)
2-Rumson-Fair Haven (21-4)
3-Ridgewood (19-3)
4-Summit (15-4)
5-Gill St. Bernard’s (14-7)

Quarterfinals - Tuesday, June 13, at Kean

5-Gill St. Bernard’s (14-7) vs. 4-Summit (15-4), 5 p.m.

Semifinals - Thursday, June 15, at Kean

Final - Saturday, June 17, at Bridgewater-Raritan

Out of curiosity, if you know and can share, what are the budget line items for the event? Are Kean and B-R charging for the use of their facilities? I assume there will be insurance. Cost? Teams raise own funds for busses? I'd figure additional costs for officials and security. Anything else?

I heard an overall estimate of $35,000 for the girls. Unfortunately, it isn't happening this year.

Indeed, it is unfortunate that one of the teams isn't participating, but I guess getting 100% participation may be tough. I'd bet the girls wouldn't have gotten all six teams to play this year either. Most I talked to at the Group finals were in favor of an informal TOC, but not all.

I’m not sure on costs but the Apel’s are a driving force in this, so I’d imagine BR isn’t charging.

I do know they’ve raised around 45K on a gofundme for costs. Obviously the schools need to provide transport and all for the teams, maybe Shawnee wasn’t willing to do that.

nj.com article says: "Shawnee, the Group 3 champion, would have been seeded fifth, and Non-Public champion Gill St. Bernard’s the sixth seed, but the Renegades are unable to participate in Tuesday’s quarterfinals due to a prior school commitment."

https://www.nj.com/highschoolsports/202 ... ament.html

I see that Shawnee's graduation is on June 16 with a project graduation to follow. Maybe they have senior stuff this week.
