Would you feel the same if you owned a bar/restaurant? Pretty tough going as it is for those folks, many have folded already. Any kind of assistance coming for them or are they more victims of the pandemic.
Rules here are, wear a mask when you enter, can take it off when you sit (not allowed to stand) at the bar. Few pieces of plexiglass at the bar, a few can gather within the plexiglass area...with masks off. Virus can't travel up, around, or under that? Can only get you when you're walking to and from the door. All seems pretty wacky to me (not saying I'm a non complier).
No. I wouldn’t want it like that but the reality is that we are in a deadly pandemic. We should have focused our bailout effort to support these folks. Economics are driving their need to be open. An economic solution would limit that need. I believe it would have been cheaper and more effective and less disruptive.

Eating and drinking at a restaurant is a luxury and convenience. I know plenty of people that never set foot in either. Don’t have the time or money....plexiglass is good if you are in and out. Pick-up with a mask. But standing around breathing in other peoples’ exhaled breath over time is a problem.

Florida basketball player just collapsed on the court. I am hoping we don’t find out he had / has COVID-19.

This IS important news. Care to share further details? What about symptomatic V19 folks, with mild initial symptoms. Is it not uncommon for them to pass out, to.

Where do you get your fear porn from? What scientific evidence to you have of any of this?

The Trump Admin Has A Plan To Distribute The Vaccine — That Ends When Biden Takes Office
https://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker ... kes-office
The COVID-19 vaccine is out, and it could turn into President Trump’s final dirty trick against Joe Biden.

Trump officials have been offering optimistic timeframes on vaccine distribution that both belie the complexity of what will be the greatest mass vaccination campaign in American history and could serve to set unrealistic expectations for the incoming Biden administration.

“Late February, in the March time period, I think you’ll start seeing [it] much more like a flu vaccination campaign,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.

That rosy estimate comes as Congress has failed to allocate the billions of dollars in funding that states say is necessary for the distribution effort. It also comes as the Trump administration has planned out the initial phase of the distribution effort at the federal level, but left the subsequent phases — set to start after Biden takes office — to the unfunded states.

“I just don’t see how that would happen,” said Dr. Leana Wen, former Baltimore city health commissioner and a health policy professor at George Washington, of Azar’s estimate. “That’s an extremely optimistic projection that assumes everything is done perfectly, and when resources are so limited, that perfect execution is nearly impossible.”

Because the Trump administration has only planned out in detail how the vaccine will be administered to the first groups of recipients, and because of the timeline broadcast by officials like Azar, a potential public health and PR catastrophe awaits the Biden administration in its first weeks. The lack of planning and funding at the state level could boil over just as the vaccine is supposed to have become widely available, and just after Biden takes office.

“It’s obvious how this will go over,” one state official told NBC, referring to the timing.

It also highlights the pressure placed on local officials to execute the vaccine rollout, and on the Trump administration to cooperate with the incoming Biden team.

“Everyone is hoping for a smooth rollout with these priority groups being vaccinated in order to achieve mass vaccination by the summertime, but if any one part of that rollout misses a goal or is not smoothly implemented, it can complicate the entire implementation in major ways,” said Dr. Howard Koh, an assistant secretary for health under President Obama. “There are many, many ways that could happen, and this is where particularly the administration needs to work with the transition and Congress.”
Unrealistic timeframe

With the Pfizer vaccine being injected en masse and Moderna’s set for emergency FDA approval this week, the inoculation campaign is underway.

The first waves of the vaccine are going out to two groups: frontline medical workers and those who live in or work at nursing homes. Kaiser Family Foundations estimates that 17.6 million people fall into those categories.

Then the pool of those eligible for vaccinations would broaden to all of phase 1 — covering essential workers, those older than 65, and those with preexisting conditions. That, per Kaiser, could encompass over 100 million people.

Azar suggested that everyone in phase 1 will be vaccinated by the end of March.

That’s a very tall order — especially given that the Trump administration appears to have only completed planning for phase 1a, the initial 17.6 million, a category of people set to be vaccinated by around the time that Biden takes office.

The Trump administration has laid out a detailed plan to vaccinate that first category; shots are being shipped out to hospitals around the country to ensure that frontline health-care workers are being vaccinated.

To inoculate nursing home residents, the Trump administration has made an exception to its pandemic-long rule of delegating authority to the states. For this, Health and Human Services is footing the bill via a partnership with Walgreens and CVS, who will send vaccinators into nursing homes.

HHS heralded that policy as “minimiz[ing] the burden on [long-term care] sites and jurisdictional health departments of vaccine handling, administration, and fulfilling reporting requirements.”

But there’s no similar federal role for vaccinating the rest of the country — everyone beyond that initial 17.6 million in the Trump administration’s plan.

Rather, what the government is planning to do after these first 17 million receive their doses is ship the vaccine to the states, leaving it to them to administer. Without plans in place for vaccination or the money needed to execute those plans, the scenario sets up the possibility of conspicuous delays in the distribution effort in the opening weeks of the Biden administration.

Gen. Gustave Perna, Operation Warp Speed’s chief operations officer, has said that his office will serve the needs of the states. “Our responsibility is to enable their plan,” he said at a Dec. 2 press conference.

“It’s the state and local leaders that are going to make this a reality on the ground,” Koh said. He added that “vaccination systems take years to build, be upgraded, and adjusted for any new threat.”

“We need to help them to help us,” he added.

An HHS spokeswoman told TPM that the Trump administration would pay for the vast majority of distribution costs — getting the vaccines to the states — and that a program to deliver the vaccine directly to pharmacies would alleviate the burden on local health departments.

State officials dispute this, and say that they need billions to effectively distribute the shot.

Elections have consequences.
There is a risk that something like this occurs any time there is a change in leadership.
But calling it a dirty trick is hyperbole. Like any of the things posted around here.

More to schools than what sport they play. I don’t know much of anything about Wichita State, other than the basketball team.

yes, please do. out loud.

Fact checkers would conclude that ggait learned of the existence of UMBC, and it's leader, for the first time, ever, when it's hoops team made n$aa history.

If true, I find it odd that a lacrosse fan of the DIV. I ilk knew nothing of the plush, lavish UMBC grounds. It's not like they haven't been running lax tournaments on that campus, forever, either.

Why do you think this is "attack mode"? And, why do you even care about this , at all?

Apples to apple fritters.........just one is fattening.

But, you HAVE heard of Wichita State b/c of just hoops.

Hoops ain't a fair comparison, what with well over THREE times the number of Div. I hoops programs vs lacrosse. It it were Div. 3, I could maybe understand.....but UMBC is one of the handful of programs, outside of the lax mafia, that has made the N$aa tournament a few times. 4 straight years in the mid 2000's.

Just odd, as a fan of the game of lacrosse, to not know all Div. 1 teams, from Monmouth, Maryland to Mount St. Marys, to Princeton, Penn, Penn State, to Drexel, Deleware, Dartmouth, Denver, Duke and Detroit, Marist, Merrimack, Michigan, UMass-Amherst, Lowell, Vermont, Virginia, Villanova, Lawrenceville, Landon, Hill A.......Harvard, Hofstra, Hobart, High point, St. Johns, Syracuse, Sidwell Friends.....

nope, Reading Comprehension 101 made it simple to understand, from the entirety of the post, and the post to which he was responding, that ggait didn't know anything beyond that they played lax, only learned the inspiring story of what Hrabowski has accomplished at UMBC because of the media attention when UMBC upset UVA in bball...it's not as if that's ever mentioned when UMBC plays and wins a big lax game...

Heck, most lax players, much less fans, anywhere but next door would likely not have known anything about UMBC other than they had a team. Small Maryland system school, not College Park? why would most people know?

Even many locals wouldn't know the UMBC educational story, though it's certainly been covered in local papers, so they should know...

Heck, I pay a fair amount of attention to the local educational scene, certainly knew of the Meyerhoff Scholars program and that it was successful, but I didn't grasp the full scale of what Hrabowski was doing until I saw him at a TED talk.

ABV -- I think I've been around here a lot longer than you, much of it on the old LP site.

I started posting on here on the Colorado high school threads probably 10 years ago (time flies) when my kids were playing in high school. So lots of talk about who was best among Regis Jesuit, Kent Denver or Fort Collins. I've never lived or worked in Maryland fyi. Lots of stuff on UVA and DU (which is my local college team). Lots of stuff on the shot clock, stick head dimensions, other lax rules changes, and why attendance on Memorial Day keeps dropping.

And, of course, I'm famous for my Title IX analyses. If you want to know how/why Utah or Michigan could start a D1 mlax team when so many more obvious schools cannot/do not, I'd be happy to explain it to you. In extremely great detail. I'd also be happy to explain to you why University of Denver is DU rather than UD. Same goes for University of Colorado, where I follow CU's extremely good club mlax team. Come to think of it, I could also explain why CU has D1 wlax but never will have D1 mlax.

After the 1-16 shocker, there were many national news stories about who/what UMBC was. Many of those focused on Hrabowski's mentorship of aspiring AA doctors and scientists. That was news to me and inspiring stuff. So it was interesting the other day when it was mentioned that one of those UMBC AA scientists was involved in the Covid vaccine work. Which is what I posted.

I don't post much about lacrosse these days because there hasn't been any lacrosse since UVA beat Yale 18 months ago.

Cheers.
