Yeah, that's Jay Alter. He often relies on hyperbole and cliche to mask his lack of knowledge of the women's game. Rarely does he do nuts and bolts play-by-play. He's a good questions guy.πŸ™„ I wonder if he does it to avoid having to call the game. There are times he asks Sheehan questions and she blithely goes on and on with seemingly no sense of what's happening on the field, oftimes right through scoring chances and goals scored. I value SSB for a lot of reasons but I have noticed this year that her commentary can go on too long during time inside the restraining lines. This duo isn't a good mix. Precious little if any play-by-play is called. They just kind of talk to each other throughout the course of the game. I enjoy SSB's color, I don't want to give the wrong impression, but not when a scoring chance is developing or a save is made or a turnover is caused where a little PBP would be nice. I'll take Rachael DeCecco's much more succinct and without hype commentary over SSB's any day. Her insightful explanations of strategy enhance the broadcast. She also comes up with pithy sayings in game. One from the other night was, "BC coming from all directions, not just North."

Gotta be able to win on those kind of days. Cuse girls weren't taking bad shots but not making good shots on goal. GK made some nice saves, too many shots they made it much easier for her to make saves though. Ward put a few of them in her stick for her. Might be wrong here but think I heard the commentator say they were 0-6 on FPSs. Wasn't the Cuse team you're used to seeing, 'cept for the D, includes GK.
No comments on BC game is everyone tired of watching lax all day? lol
interesting first half, UVA up on draws which is surprising, yeah I know by 1 but still...
More shots than BC but not great shot placement. TO even for both teams. I fully expect
BC to win this one, but first half a little surprising.
There is something funky going on with the draws. I think CN has more violations in this game than the rest of the season combined. When the male ref sets them up, CN has been doing much better. There have been rumors all season that BC has been gaming the draw. Maybe that female ref is trying to get to the bottom of it. Admittedly, that is only a slightly educated guess on my part. North has switched DC sticks which I haven't seen all season.
Not wrong about the draws. In general need better enforcement of rules given its importance in deciding games. North almost never draws up, Jenner uses her off hand to push and grab and those are two of the best. I don’t blame them for stretching the rules, Refs need to call like they did twice at beginning of UVA game and then somehow inexplicably stopped despite more egregious violations all second half. Tough job, love the Refs!

I don't think you could use fouls per game to say a team plays dirty but it's a fair indicator that they play physical (and Cuse does).
That’s what I was trying to say, but you said it better. Nothing but respect for what Syracuse is doing right now, particularly on defense. And DMac is 100% right that the game is way way better without the hard whistles on ticky-tacky files. In hindsight it seems pretty absurd that it took so long for that change and for the shot clock.

I agree and disagree. Better enforcement is needed. The rules don't require a player to "Draw up" a certain distance, they just require a player to "draw up". North flicks her wrists towards her body and "draws up" maybe an inch or two. I have watched this for the past two seasons and find it hard to believe that more players are not trying this technique. Most players go up dramatically. Maybe North's technique is just a little better????

I think her technique (and the wrist and lower arm strength required to do it well) is off the charts. And I frankly don't mind that the draw takers are using every advantage they can find to win possession. It's just incumbent on the opponent -- player and coach -- to politely suggest to the officials that "It would be nice if No. 8 went up on the whistle...." There were draws in the Dome in which Charlotte drew up either not at all or a couple of inches before pushing the ball laterally into space. If this gets attention from an official, she'll be a little less successful.

UNC by 7. 18-11 or something like that. They're going to play loose and fun, and make a little statement that the rainy day in South Bend wasn't a harbinger that they are beatable.

BC by 2. 14-12 or something. I guess both Syracuse and BC looked a little out of sorts and sluggish yesterday. This is sort of what I was asking late last week: how do BC and Syracuse recover enough to really compete in the ACC tournament after beating the daylights out of one another Thursday and Saturday? I think DMac is right that the loss of Carney cannot be really taped up.

I picked SYR because I am sure they will FG North again and I don't feel like she does as well on FG. BC tries to force ball to her too much and that sometimes leads to TO's. If Asa is on that may be a Dif maker. Not impressed with Hall in goal.

IMHO I thought yesterday was a great day for Womens Lacrosse.

The field was impeccable. It made such a difference watching

And the games were top quality.

UNC loses to the 2017 Navy team, which had both Collinses, Larkin and Harris as freshmen, and the most storied coach in the history of the game. Getting beaten by a quality opponent is not choking.
Great teams with those 4.

And shall it always be.....
I couldn't remember the 2014 UVA game either and I was curious so I went back and checked on the box score... Seems like it was a tale of to halves.. UNC up 7-4 at the half, outscored by UVA 6-2 in the 2nd. Both teams seemed to have played clean - only 11 TOs each all game, UNC wan the draw battle 8-4 in the first half and UVA won it 6-3 in the second. That UVA squad was one of the most solid & scrappy ones in recent memory - Liza Blue, Casey Bockley, Mary Alati, Courtney Swan, Morgan Stephens. Don't think they had much on UNC's lineup (UNC was definitely still a favorite) (Frysinger, Corzel, Serpe, Friend, Hendrick, Bill, Messinger, Waite, with Waters & Ward in goal), but solid for a program that, for whatever reason, gets top recruits and doesn't seem to be able to do much with them.

Interesting that both of those early exits came after National Championship seasons (2013 & 2016).

Can't find the highlight of the between the legs with back to the goal shot that was scored yesterday but it sure was a pretty shot...the right one too. Was either Wurzburger (I used to be a Wurzburger when I lived in Wurzburg, Germany) or Smith. Wurzburger has got as pretty a quick stick in front of the cage as anyone in the game. Very quick, smooth, and accurate.
Anyone got that clip?

Thanks, I get the replays on ACCNX, get nothing on ESPN3. Think it's the Hasselbeck goal you're showing me.
That's not it though (nice shot nevertheless), I'm fairly certain it was Wurzburger. Different kind of shot,
went between the legs.

It was Wurzburger, I believe about halfway through the second half. Kind of had her back to cage, was running out of real estate and got the release off too quick for Florek to read it. Really smart shot and well-executed. Love to see this type of creativity, shooting to score and not just trying to make a highlight reel. Hasselbeck's shot was also phenomenal.
