Certainly agree but is has been that way for some time. Agree Roanoke has an extremely soft resume but the bubble was pretty soft this year. Gettysburg didn’t deserve be in (and was clearly not going to be). Amherst vs Bowdoin is a very interesting debate and I would have gone with Amherst despite the H2H but NESCAC did not deserve 5 bids this year and wasn’t going to get 5. Who really else was there with a strong claim? Roanoke picked a good year to put up a good record on a cupcake schedule. Some great second round (real second round) games on tap!

wow.

wow

so many stores to this bracket.

union hosting tufts

lynchburg playing W&L the first weekend. (thought NCAA didn’t want conference teams playing the first weekend)

4 NESCAC. 4 LL 3 ODAC. only 2 centennial.

Roanoke has a realistic chance to get out of the first weekend.

Home team most likely to lose the first weekend. Union, Dickinson or Lynchburg

Union by a longshot. The other two will probably be narrow favorites at worst; Union has to play a team that beat them by a million goals.

A few of my favorite first round matchups…

Bowdoin Grove City
Endicott Swarthmore
Roanoke Stevens
Union Stevenson

Should be a great tournament!

Babson-Denison is an awesome matchup; love when the tournament gives us unfamiliar H2Hs like that.

Second year in a row that Union hosts a stronger seed. I believe Midd beat them ~18-10 in the second round last year.

Union hosted only because Midd could not.

No argument there. Just interesting that Union has twice in a row hosted a stronger seed from the NESCAC who they also played in the regular season.

St. Lawrence and Tufts both are the higher seed in their pods but are not hosting because of location/distance. The committee did not want to send 3 teams up to Canton, NY so they sent them down to CT. Tufts being in the pod with two Illinois teams meant it was closer to send them to Union rather than all the way to Boston. I get the NCAA has to deal with budgets and rules regarding travel but still feels like a tough break for these two teams who have been in the top 6 pretty much all season to not be able to host a weekend.

There is more to the story for why Union is hosting over Tufts. It has nothing to do with Union being closer to Illinois. Those Illinois schools are flying either way, and if anything, in and out of Boston would be cheaper for the NCAA.

Perhaps Tufts AD dropped the ball on submitting the paperwork to host or school admin nix’d it. Only plausible explanations.

I can't remember any issues the 1st year of Pods.
The Midd @ Union situation was a weird one last year.

But if Tufts & SLU aren't hosting, and the reason being location based...
Can't imagine top teams are ever going to be OK with that.

Also - surprised Tufts is seeded higher / getting a better draw than Wesleyan

Also I think sometimes graduation timing plays a part in whether a school can host.

Tufts is hosting the NESCAC championships for baseball and softball next weekend. It's of course not an issue of hotel space, but just the strain on the facilities/parking/etc., which are all adjacent to each other

Tufts can’t host mens pod if the women’s team is also hosting their pod, they play on the same field. Women are hosting per 10:30 AM D3 women’s announcement. NCAA won’t allow this if both programs use the same field. Can’t say who is the priority in 2024, that is a Tufts Admin call. IMO it has nothing to due with Union pulling strings but instead a Tuft’s choice.

Outstanding matchup! Curious, why are they playing Fri/Sat at RIT instead of Sat/Sun? Is it possibly due to Hope College's Christian affiliation?
If we need that extra push over the cliff, ya know what we do...eleven, exactly.

I also thought that might be the reason, but both CNU and Salisbury are hosting both men’s and woman’s tournament games. They just moved the start time of the men’s games to later in the day.

Out of the remaining field the only 1 pool A’s left is St. John fisher.

The rest are pool B and c
