Week 7 Not So Accurate Rankings for NEW1-2-3

- twas an interesting week with several unusual outcomes
- this upcoming week has some very good games though which will likely decide some "titles"

D1 Observations (Tier1: 1-3), Tier 2: 4-11, Tier3 12-13)
- maybe the biggest news of the week, Salisbury tumbles to Tier 2 with bad losses (HKiss and Choate) supposedly due to illness, JV player splaying - or maybe they are just uneven this year but they are a disappointment this season
- conversely, H'Kiss demise was premature with some strong wins and a not so bad loss to Deerfield and moves up
- Wick continues to win NJ (and CT public by beating Delbarton and Ridgefield) but Deerfield didnt show up against L'Ville
- Loomis no problem with Andover as West beats East yet again
- Is Taft back? Weak schedule this oast week but looking strong against Berkshire.
- TP with a bad loss to Millbrook, rumor starting goalie not playing? EIther way, bad look for TP but I still believe they will be a contender for top of Tier2
- I still dont have Salisbury Kent score

D2 Observations
- No change in rankings
- MIllbrook with the 2nd biggest upset of the week beating TP
- Albany continues to score in large batches beating Wilby
- Canterbury and Wilby in a free fall but watch out for Gunnery who could steal the top spot
- GCDS pasted GFA which makes it a race of 2 at the top of the FAA. GCDS overcoming some early season injuries which makes them dangerous
- there was a tie? RCDS and Portledge - not sure what would cause a game to end in a tie
- Hopkins going to be winless?

D3 Observation
- Harvey and Williams remain at the top
- Marvelwood with a good week
- South Kent was though to be a preseason dark horse but had a bad week
- Woodhall and Master remain winless

GAMES TO WATCH THIS WEEK (with meek predicitions)
- Deerfield v Nobles with Nobles on a hot streak (Deerfield by 4)
- Choate v TP for the 3rd-4th Founders playoff spot (TP by 1 in a pick 'em)
- Salisbury v Taft - Taft seems to have righted the ship and Salisbury stumbling (Taft by 2)
- Wick v Salisbury (Wick by 6)
- Loomis v Taft (Loomis by 2)
- GOTW: Albany v Millbrook for the NEW2 title (though Gunnery still in the mix) (Albany by 1 in a changing of the guard)
- GFA v King - chance for GFA to get back to the mountaintop (King by 4)
- RCDS v HH for the final playoff spot in the FAA (HH by 2)
- GOTW2: Harvey v Wiliams in a rematch where Harvey dominated the 1st game. This is for the NEW3 title (Harvey by 2)

Final from Nobles:
Deerfield 14
Nobles 8.

DA started subbing pretty liberally early in the 3rd, but kept in some of their pieces on O for a few reps. From what I saw, Nobles did a really nice job at the FO but just didn't have the fire power on O to keep it close.

I tuned in to the livestream which was brutally frustrating to watch. The automated camera more frequently followed random motions on the field such as substitutions instead of the action around the ball.

Must have been at Nobles then. I watched their stream earlier in the season, and every time a player entered the substitution box, which is to say every moment of the game, the camera would fix on the subs box. I guess there's some kind of motion detector on the camera. Not sure why a student couldn't man the camera, but since they don't, maybe don't place the camera right over the subs box. Maybe put it on the opposite sideline away from the benches and subs box.

The game was at Nobles and the camera was on the opposite side of the field from the benches. Nobles needs to find a better livestream option as I can't imagine a college coach watching a whole game as it is.

Guess they got the complaint early on and tried moving the camera to the other side and it's still not working. Just get a student to man the camera. It's not complicated.

It would also have been nice if it could have shown the scoreboard every now and then. I watched the 2nd and 3rd periods with no idea what the score or time was. Finally, the ball went into the left corner and I got a brief glimpse. I think it was 13 - 3 then. Nobles had a lot of offensive opportunities given the FO dominance, but shot horribly.

Well, Taft just beat a hobbled Salisbury squad quite soundly and now has to beat Loomis and AOF to salvage what they can of their season.

It's a first year coach at both Taft and AOF, so that'll be an interesting game. I'll be happy for LC if they beat the Rhinos, because LC has been getting better organically, but it'll be the final nail in the coffin of a promising Taft squad that scheduled for ambitions of a top 10 ranking.

When they lost to a St Johns team missing their star Attackman to open their season (by one goal) and then lost another one goal game to the Haverford juggernaut, I feel that their whole season went downhill. Teenagers are easy to deflate. Duck, let's move on to college -- it's senior spring term!

Good comments 3PP. Tafts low point was a non competitive game against Deerfied but since then, they have won 5 straight and in a dominating fashion. This will make for a better Loomis game but Loomis still for the win in my books (-2.5).

For the founders playoffs, there was a notable game yesterday as Choate made it more interesting with their win over TP.

Does anyone know the founders tiebreaker order to play in the top 4 finals? Currently:
-Loomis 5-0
-Taft 5-0
-Choate 3-2
-TP 3-3
-AOF 3-3
-HKiss 2-3
-Westy 1-5
-Kent 0-6

For the non-Founders playoff, who's in contention? I assume Brunswick, Lawrenceville, Salisbury, DA? Who did I miss? Is it a final four or just the top two teams squaring off? Seems like the Prep Nationals sort of lost some fizz when Founder's broke off to do their own championship?

Hoping to make a quick stop at DA Wednesday to catch the Salisbury game which ends the regular season. Been too long since I set foot in the shadow of Pocumtuck! Still trying to figure out which field they are playing on from the livestream snippets I've caught. Gotta love grass.

Who besides Brunswick, Lawrenceville, Salisbury, and DA are contenders for the Prep Nationals? Are Malvern Haverford or any PA or MD or VA (DMV) powers included?

Does anyone think that the Founders Champ can get included?

Prep Nationals has been in existence since 2022 and has always included the same four teams: DA, Brunswick, L'ville and Salisbury. In someways it replaced the Geico National Championship event but that included a larger and rotating group of teams. (Taft and Salisbury we're regular participants if memory serves.) The FL champion doesn't move on to play in any additional events before the school year ends. Alas, it's a great disservice to NEW1 teams and fans that there's no season ending tourney for reasons covered here previously.

St Anthony's has a couple of losses but they are certainly a top 5 team

Prep Nationals was started in 2022 by DA, Salisbury and WICK in response to the creation of the Founder's League tournament. It had been (has been) the long time dream of many, including those schools, to have a NEWest season ending tournament akin to the MIAA. The problem is that the 10-15year trailing top 4 team data set has heavily favored those three schools and a NEWest tourney would have only included 1 FL team per year on average over that period. Two FL schools in particular were very vocal on this issue and decided to go their own way in order to create a "better experience" for FL schools and their players. Fair enough.

My bet is that those schools above would be willing to scrap the Prep Nationals for a NEWest tourney or expand the current four team tournament to a broader set of potential qualifiers, but I wouldn't see it expanding or going for more than one weekend.

I think its a placeholder for now.

It should be 8 newest1 teams in the tournament out of 13. This would have included most but not all of the FL. Too bad Choate and Taft didn’t want to cooperate. Choate hasn’t played Brunswick in 3 years. How do we even crown a NEWest1 champ if Choate refuses to play Brunswick?? Give the kids what they deserve and make it happen!

I would be in favor of a NEW1 tournament as well and I imagine it will happen maybe somewhere far down the road in addition to the FL tournament. But to your point, the Backup of TX, there are NEW1 teams that dont play each other all. Choate not playing Wick is a travesty. This is who teams DONT play (it wasnt all that bad but I still feel like all teams should play each other - Can we even include NMH in NEW1 anymore since they barely play anyone?)

AOF - NMH
Berkshire - Wick, NMH
Brunswick - Berkshire, Choate, NMH
Choate - Brunswick
Deerfield - NMH
Hotchkiss - NMH
Kent - Wick and Westy (and technically Loomis)
Loomis - NMH
NMH - AOF, Berkshire, Wick, Deerfield, Kiss, Loomis, Salisbury, Taft, TP
Salisbury - NMH
Taft - NMH
TP - NMH
Westy - only team to play everyone - kudos to them

With D1 tourney about to start in earnest, thought I would look to see how West-1 kids were represented on the rosters. Here it is by high school and then by college. Pretty much matches the league standings the past few years, I would expect to see a few more Loomis and maybe some Choate's in the next few. If one or two more of the Ivys had gotten in there would be a lot more here. A few of these are not schools that are usual matches for West-1 kids.

I don't know about that. My instinct is that all of the favored teams win, in some cases win big. I expect 'wick, Westy, DA, and Exeter to win going away. I predict CRH over a resurgent Hotchkiss although see it as a close game. No insight into TP vs Gunnery. Game of the Week is LC vs Taft with the top seed in the FL tourney at stake. Do the Pelicans roll to their tenth consecutive dub or have the Rhinos regained enough of their footing to pull an upset?
