So no involvement from the perspective of policy making, governing, etc. You are just a little irked that Joe is hanging out with Barack and Bill? Is it the fundraiser that bothers you? GWB never helped a GOP candidate raise campaign money? Re: 2024
Bill Clinton had his share of scandals, as I wrote in Lexington this week, but he was an effective and popular president, and he left office with an approval rating of 66%, according to Gallup. Barack Obama also left on a high note, at 59%. When the two former presidents appeared with President Joe Biden in New York on March 28th, they were plumping for money for his campaign, but they nevertheless presented a dignified tableau of mutual respect and affection, solidarity and continuity.
What a contrast with Donald Trump. The only other living former Republican president, George W. Bush, has never even endorsed him, let alone embraced him in public. Mr Trump makes a virtue of that, of course. His politics are grounded in the idea he is breaking with everything that came before.
What’s weird, though, is that the discontinuity increasingly applies to his own term in office. His own vice-president, Mike Pence, said in mid-March he will not endorse his former boss—not a huge surprise, since Mr Pence has accused Mr Trump of putting himself “over the constitution”, and yet it is still a shocking repudiation, one without obvious precedent at that level of American politics. It puts Mr Pence on a list of officials who served Mr Trump but have since broken with him that includes an attorney-general (Bill Barr), two defence secretaries (Jim Mattis and Mark Esper), two national security advisers (John Bolton and H.R. McMaster), two chiefs of staff (John Kelly and Mick Mulvaney), a chairman of the joint chiefs of staff (Mark Milley), a secretary of the Navy (Richard Spencer), a secretary of state (Rex Tillerson), a secretary of education (Betsy DeVos), and a secretary of transportation (Elaine Chao), among others.
Maybe some of these people will have a change of heart, though that doesn’t seem probable. (Those Republicans, such as Senator Lindsey Graham, who repudiate their repudiations of Mr Trump tend to still have political ambitions. For that reason Nikki Haley, who was Mr Trump’s most formidable opponent for the Republican nomination, may come around, though she appears to be resisting so far.) Mr Kelly has called Mr Trump “a person with nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our constitution, and our rule of law”. Mr Esper has said “his actions are all about him and not about the country.” Mr Bolton has said he thought foreign leaders saw Mr Trump as “a laughing fool”.
It seems to defy not just conventional politics but even common sense that such condemnation and contempt from formidable people who worked closely with Mr Trump does not matter much. At least not so far.
Thanks for reading Checks and Balance. If you have thoughts on this week’s edition, please reach out to me at [email protected].
Oh well…..Old so and so is hanging in there.

Re: 2024
So Trump's now public company "Truth Social" (better called Trump Social) announced that it lost $58 million on $4.1 million in revenue in 2023.
They had claimed a $50 million profit in 2022 based on a derivative liabilities change of $75 million, meaning to this poor observer, they actually lost $25 million on $1.5 million in revenue in 2022. More than doubled the operating loss year over year.
Revenue is up year over year, but monthly active users is dropping, more than 50% year over year, to now less than a half million monthly...that ain't the metrics Silicon Valley uses now, which focus on daily active users and time daily, but by comparison Twitter has 75 million monthly in the US alone.
The good news for Trump Social is that they have several hundred million dollars in the bank as a result of the SPAC merger, so they can hemorrhage money at this rate for at least awhile, though there's a serious 'going concern' issue for sure.
Their 'management' team is quite the array of numbskulls, grifters and propagandists, but hey, that's what attracts that half a million people to visit at least once a month...but can any of them actually manage a company? Doesn't look like it.
A week ago the meme stock popped to $77/share, it's now $45. It ain't worth $1.
Their next quarterly will be interesting...

Team KENNEDY
Corrupt DNC bosses conspired with the Nevada Secretary of State
Kennedy-Shanahan 24
Dear Friend,
The political machine is trying to keep Team Kennedy off the ballot in Nevada, and now we're ready to go to court!
Team Kennedy believes we have collected sufficient signatures to ensure Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Nicole Shanahan are on the Nevada ballot.
However, Nevada invented a rule to disqualify the ballots! Corrupt DNC bosses conspired with the Nevada Secretary of State to claim the petitions needed to include a field for Vice President.
The Nevada Secretary of State confirmed with our campaign that the petition didn't need a field for VP, and is now changing their story!
THAT RFK jr........shure IS a nutbag........ballot access isn't about ra$e
Friends, this is how the political establishment protects itself. It doesn't matter if Nevada officials spin this rule change as an "accident," as their actions speak louder than words. They know signatures are incredibly expensive to collect, and party bosses are determined to keep Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. off the ballot.
Just like how the political establishment has tried using the courts to keep Donald J. Trump off the ballot, they are giving Kennedy/Shanahan the same treatment. These actions are undemocratic and are something you would expect in a banana republic, not in the United States of America.
Apparently, the old political guard doesn't care that a majority of voters under 35 and a majority of independents support Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s campaign.
With this disgusting behavior in Nevada, it is no surprise why 52% of American voters now consider themselves independent!
RFK Jr. isn't running for President to "spoil" the election. He is running to win the White House and heal America. But Kennedy needs to be on the ballot in every state, including Nevada!
As it stands now, we already plan to spend $15 million on ballot access. Now, the Nevada political establishment is forcing our hand and dragging us through costly court battles.
We need your support now more than ever! Help our team gain ballot access in every state, including Nevada! Don't let the Political Establishment keep us out of the race!

I read this article as if unbiased, then looked into the author and The Western Journal which published him. He's a young far-right free lancer who also writes for the DC Enquirer. The Western Journal is so "fringe" and full of outright disinformation it was blacklisted by Google and Apple News. Huge climate change denialism, apparently responsible for 70% of Facebook traffic on climate denial.
The DC Enquirer is way far right, including fully discredited propagandists like Dinesh D'Souza.
Both get terrible scores on credibility (facts) and bias.
But ok, I took seriously nevertheless and looked at the Courier Newsroom. They are very upfront about their bias at their website, no pretense that their viewpoint is not from the left. https://couriernewsroom.com/about/
Nor is the Open Society (Soros) hiding their support...so, your right wing propagandist story is full of misrepresentation.
As to whether they're providing actual journalism, I'd say no, they're a political activist group with clear bias. I wouldn't trust their 'news', just as I wouldn't trust the right wing propagandists. I don't know whether they outright lie the way the right wing folks have been proven to do, but at a minimum they cherry pick their facts.
Treat both with big grains of salt.

Electric and hybrid/electric is very nearly more efficient than gas powered, certainly for short trips where most of America actually lives. With charging infrastructure and continued battery improvement and electric distribution improvements, electric will certainly displace a big portion of the individual transport...

I use to be a people person until people ruined that for me.

It's called "becoming informed and recognizing the difference between truth from lies"...and knowing what is "fact free misinformed obfuscation".
That's what we mean when we talk about being an "informed voter".
