Barring an unforeseen development, Scane will win her second Tewaaraton in June. There doesn’t seem to be much question about that.
And rightly so. She’s the best women’s college lacrosse player since Sam Apuzzo.

Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
When are we going to stop complaining about the Covid eligibility??? It literally goes away for all practical purposes next year. This has been discussed to death….
Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
I think the back-log of talent is noteworthy until it ends. The current seniors (class of 2020) to some extent lost their identity and ability to shine amongst their peers like no other time in the history of lacrosse. The numbers say it all.

Agreed. It was a frickin pandemic. The NCAA was damned if they did (add a year) and damned if they didn't (add a year). Prodigious kvetching either way.Womenslaxxfan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 2:05 pm When are we going to stop complaining about the Covid eligibility??? I don't think Scane will repeat. She's arguably the best player right now, but it may go a different direction. Maybe they will take into account the factors that help her out and move on?
I have no dog in this fight, I just want to be contrarian.

Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
O’Grady will not make it to the finals. She’s benefited from a great team D that is giving her a lot of easy saves and an overall low shot count. She’s decent but she’s no Meg. I’m enjoying her season and how the defense and her and meshed so well together. They are a lot of fun to watch! It’s just a dialed in D unit.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 1:48 pm Women’s First Round Additions

Interesting. Which games have you watched to come to this conclusion? You can start with Denver. They probably have her 13 saves up on their Instagram Reels. There are a few good ones in there, but the majority are just bad shots.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 6:03 amInteresting. Which games have you watched to come to this conclusion? Goalies will recognize this if you ask them. She’s still making the saves, but it’s not the same quality of shots. We will see how she holds up against better competition.

She leads the country in GAA with 4.8 - #2 is Shea Dolce at 6.64. I’m sure you will say that this is not a good stat for goalies, because it really reflects on the defense. Well, she’s a pretty important part of that defense and she still has to make the saves.
She also leads the country in save percentage at .682 - #2 is the Drexel goalie at .575
Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
So are you going to call out Inside Lacrosse for putting their write-up today on who's favored, the field, contenders, etc.? They did that with 15 players, I decided to just do one since I'm not getting paid for my articles.Brownlax wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 9:10 amKind of weird that you pick one kid out of the whole list to comment on.MolonLaxe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 7:48 amYou can start with Denver. I'm glad she got the recognition and she's good, but she's not making the Top 5. Would it make you happy if I posted my whole list of who's not making Top 5 and why?
Hats off to HN, her DC, and the defense (all of them, yes, even O'Grady) for being one of the best units on the field this season.

Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
Not to step in to a good quarrel, but does anyone know if there is a place to find team defense and offense efficiency numbers? For instance 10 goals / 30 possessions, 33% efficient. I think that is a better team stat than just total goals against. I assume these stats are online somewhere?MolonLaxe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 9:29 amSo are you going to call out Inside Lacrosse for putting their write-up today on who's favored, the field, contenders, etc.? A recently graduated starting goaltender for a perennially ranked top 20 team weighed in with this:
"Honestly I doubt a goalie will ever win the Tewaaraton again. It’s becoming best attacker. I was a goalie with an amazing defense IMO but when goalies are making 15 saves a game and making it look like bad shots, that’s usually the sign of a good goalie. Obviously some shots are easy saves. Duh. But if you're in position and communicating to your defense and commanding their actions, then you are a reason for the bad shot being taken--good goalie. More than just flashy saves, it’s good positioning and good commanding leadership. Makes it look easy to an ignorant eye. I think she’s very good though."
Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
Thanks for posting! Not only was a goalie, but I have coached some of the best goalies who have played at the highest level on both the men’s and women’s sides of the game. Goalies will recognize this if you ask them. She’s still making the saves, but it’s not the same quality of shots. We will see how she holds up against better competition.
Are either of you saying she’s a Top 5 finalist?
I heard she’s very good and I do appreciate goalies getting love, but why a statement she won’t make Top 5 ruffled feathers is surprising. The list is long and most won’t make it.

I'm not, nor do I think your comments were ruffle inducing. Your observations were interesting. I wanted to run them by some goaltenders and see what they thought. (More coming, too...)

That's fine. I've also asked multiple GKs, too.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 5:51 pmI'm not, nor do I think your comments were ruffle inducing. Your observations were interesting. I wanted to run them by some goaltenders and see what they thought. (More coming, too...)

From a former ACC goalie still very actively playing:OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 12:47 pmI took your advice.MolonLaxe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 7:48 amYou can start with Denver. I'd love to check them out and see what you're referring to.MolonLaxe wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 11:26 pmO’Grady will not make it to the finals.

“She’s got in frame saves but she also has out of frame saves. Positioning is part of being a good goalie. I also think any goalie can be really freaking good if you have the number one defense in front of you. Because you see less shots. So I beg to differ when we say we have like these really good goalies on really good teams. If we put them with a different defense would they still be making the same amount of saves? And vice versa? So, I don't know, I look at—a good goalie is literally an active goalie, one that makes saves that they're supposed to make, and with good positioning regardless of what's in front of them.
Sometimes my highest highlights; my season career high stats are based off losing games but against really really good teams so, I don’t know—all different.”
