I don’t get why so many folks swing from the nuts of their conferences. You know how payoffs it is to watch Miss or Even Florida for quite a while now, chant SEC because their supposed conference rival is running game on college football? Makes less than no sense as regional aspects were traded off for TV morning which is a race to the bottom (only care about brand name national matchups and little else-trust me no one is paying attention to Rutgers Nebraska or Misssouri-South Carolina and the regional appeal is dead and gone in this construct)
Basically bragging about being subsidiaries of an administrative office who negotiates tv deals and does little else.
We will see when all of this is different in ways not even contemplated here.

Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Re: Big Ten 2024
Because when any team in your conference gets a good OOC win, it boosts every team in the conference, even when nobody stands out within your conference and the (say) the top four teams all have 3-2 conference records. Remember the year the Ivies had a great OOC record, and Duke and ND were left out?
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
Re: Big Ten 2024
Fans of small programs from one bid AQ conferences don't understand that concept.

Of course I get RPI math. But that’s not what we’re talking about here we’re talking about pride by some weak form osmosis.

It a little nut hanging, but it is also logical. As a fan you root for what is best for your team. I do think there is the rivalry exception. Hopkins fans rooting for Michigan, OSU, PSU, and Rutgers in the out of conference makes sense. I do not expect them to ever root for Maryland. Same for OSU and Michigan.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 10:05 pm I don’t get why so many folks swing from the nuts of their conferences. Re: Big Ten 2024
Smith for Hopkins looks like a player. He might be the best defenseman in the league.
Re: Big Ten 2024
Surprising Zappitello didn't get the defensive nod. Holding Evan James to 0-0 and 2 shots a week after he went 5 and 4 would seem like a meritorious achievement. Just add James to the list of players Zappitello has erased.
Re: Big Ten 2024
Him and Smith are the best two close guys at this early point in the season.
Re: Big Ten 2024
Will Peden doing well filling in for TJ Malone
Looks like they held out Malone, presumably a precaution.

Re: Big Ten 2024
That freshman goalie for OSU has Wally-Pipped the prior starting goalie.
Re: Big Ten 2024
Michigan hangs on to beat Jax by three.
Re: Big Ten 2024
Super sloppy game. Too many stupid turnovers and the defense came out lost in the 1st half again. Really struggle with picks. If the defense doesnt take major steps, Michigan will be fighting to stay out of the cellar in the Big 10.. Offense needs to learn to use the shot clock occasionally. Love the uptempo aggressive nature, but too many rushed aggressive passes that end up on the ground.

Tough game. UM looked not great. Should be happy they escaped with a win. It's worrying how bad they are at pick play. Thought after UVA exposed them, that'd be the first thing they'd work on in practice.coda wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 11:46 amSuper sloppy game. The only caveat I can think of is that UM played Marquette Saturday night in Naples, FL and beat them 20-12; in a "revenge" game after last years loss to them. 2 days of rest/prep for Jax (on the road). The announcers said it was 80 degrees in Jax lastnight. I bet UM came into this game thinking Jax would go down without a fight.
I think we'll see a revitalized/refreshed UM team vs a tough Delaware squad.
Re: Big Ten 2024
There was probably a little of that. Maybe that was worth 3-4 goals. That said there are still obvious fundamental issues on defense. Most of it is IQ based, not athletic issues. The game plan vs Michigan is now set. Picks and backside cuts. Now they have to prove they can stop that.. The slow starts on defense is another issue.GaitsRightHand wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 12:04 pmTough game. UM looked not great. Should be happy they escaped with a win. Re: Big Ten 2024
Mid week games are always a crapshoot. Clearly Michigan didn't play well but the idea is just get out with a win. Mission accomplished. Obvious things to work on defensively, which they appeared to clean up some towards the end of the game. I get the players are quicker and stronger than ever but it amazes me how simple communication errors led to easy goals at this level. I see this almost every game with few teams being the exception. Caught some of that Cornell/Hobart game and Hobart looked like a summer league defense. They were obviously overmatched physically but their ability to communicate was almost non existent.

Penn State is getting boat-raced.
