Agreed
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

It seems to me the focus is misdirected. The problem is more the officials than the rules. There is a problem here. Too few officials and too many not as accomplished as they need to be.

Not sure this will do much other than reinforce that the proposal is not very popular among fans and players, but I’m glad someone took the initiative.

That explains why Marr wants it.

Limiting the faceoff is a terrible decision.

I get the idea. They want to return lacrosse more to its roots. Get rid of the specialization and bring back a world of multi-purpose middies. Ban the clamp already or leave it alone, but stop passing rules on faceoffs every 18 months.

Never understood why the clamp was a part of lacrosse...ever. The whole pinch and pop came along when stick design changes were allowed. The stick should be a triangle(i.e. old PL77 design) and that would negate the pinch and pop face off option--and the ball will actually dislodge when a d man makes a good check! It makes zero sense that the face off is played with the BACK of the stick..the clamp is ridiculous.

The pinch and pop has been around since pre-offset. It started to appear in the late 80s and was used a ton in the early 90s.
The first offset head came around 96-98.
It was Paul Catabene who was a middling fogo in college that figured out the motogrip gave him a huge advantage at the faceoff X in the world games, followed with the insane leverage of one-knee down, that sent us down this path.

If they get rid of the clamp, they might as well do a standing face off like the women.

Clamp is a modern event in the history of lacrosse. I do not have a problem with rules that are trying to curb specialization in lacrosse. That said there will always be a player/team that has an advantage at the X. Lowering the play clock may have a bigger affect on the game, than the clamp. Slow substitution and you have burned a good portion of the clock.

Define modern event. The clamp's been around for more than 50 years.

Game goes back quite a bit further than mid 80s/late 80s..When did the FOGO become a widespread position?

Really not fair for all the FaceOff specialists out there. Gotta be a weird relationship between fogos and coaches this spring knowing the coaches voted to eliminate the position.

You mean essentially go back to college lax was like 15 years ago...oh, the horror. The worst thing to happen to face offs was the introduction of the FOGO. And this is coming from a dad whose son is primarly going to be one. It is better for the game to have less specialization in this context. Have face off guys play offense and defense and make the more rounded players.

One thing that is overlooked is the likely impact this has from the Olympics perspective.

Everyone is a specialist on the field. THink about it.

Attack are different than Middies
SSDM are highly specialized
Long Stick - What the heck, why should their be a long stick
Goalies - a good one has too much impact on game. And that stick is too specialized.

This is a policy that is driven by TV. The time leading up to the face off is dead air, and lengthens games, two things that networks don't want happening.

this isn't going to create less specialization. the skill will now be who can rake the best. they're not gonna be playing offense and defense. had fogos on my squad, and it was a lot longer than 15 years ago, unfortunately.
don't gather what you mean by olympics.

It's only a matter of time before there are no more faceoffs outside of starting a game/quarter.

I'm guessing he means the same way the plastic head is "modern?"

And yes, 15 years ago, we were right in the middle of the moto grip debacle.
