The 23’ thread was started on May 31st last year. With the conversion already turned to 24’ this thread was overdue. I would love to see you all push this one to 50 pages, that will really burn the haters up.
But first, I’ve got to address the portal concerns …”who will replace____?” “what if we lose _____?” Since someone referenced it in the 2023 thread, here is the previous post I made about past years’ lost players, to quell the concerned fans, and haters, alike.
“…At the close of the 2015 season they lost the most prolific scorer in the program’s history, 3x AA Attackman Tyler Hutson who still holds the program’s career goals and points records. They followed it up by winning the CAC in 2016 over the Gulls.
After York beat Salisbury for the CAC in 2016, they lost (at the time) the program’s winningest goalie in AA Caleb Abney, and AA attackman Andrew Gamble, who's name still litters the program’s record books. They wound up replacing Gamble’s offense and Abney’s goal coverage with; the attack trio of Pfeiffer, Davis and McGrath, and goalie Landry Marshall. That group went 17-4 in 2017 and 19-3 in 2018.
At the end of 2018, York lost AA close D Joey Fiorino (drafted pro), AA midfield Matt Whitcher (drafted pro), AA midfield Dillon Hannah and AA goalie Landry Marshall. The same conversations were had (biggest being in net) York reloaded at defense, midfield, and with freshman Jack Michael starting in net, went 19-3 in 2019.
2019 ending saw York lose the entire dynamic attack trio of AA Pfeiffer, AA Davis and AA McGrath, AA defender Kevin Witchey (now an assistant coach at Wesleyan) and AA FO Billy Sasso. Vinny Facciponti replaced Sasso’s faceoff dominance, and Ryan Kennedy took the D reins. Brendan O’Sullivan stepped up to lead the attack, and they went 20-4 over the COVID years of 2020 and 2021 combined.
At the start of 2022, while retaining many key pieces, York lost their then single season point record holder, AA attackman Brendan O’Sullivan, gradtransfering up to DI, and LSM-OTY AA Tyler Nation. Up stepped freshman Ben Mayer to be the new offensive threat at attack, and the big man Ethan Greene took over the LSM lead role, ushering York to a 20-3 season and it’s first final four…”
Now adding 2023;
For 2023’s season gone were; four year starting goalie, and their winningest on record, AA Jack Michael- graduated, 2/3 of their starting close D, including AA Ryan Kennedy (drafted pro)- graduated, 2/3 of their starting midfield, including AA Dylan Wolf- graduated, 1/3 of their starting attack in staple Eric Ranck- graduated, along with AA SSDM, and team Captain, Noah Bruno grad-transferring to RIT to play with his 2 brothers. They went on to play what many considered to be one of the toughest OOC schedules going into the year, ending 15-6, conference champions, and with a sweet 16 berth.
What and who will I write about for 2024?
That i don’t know. However for the 24’ season, I’ve heard the names in the portal, and the names I’ve heard who will be returning puts them with a better compliment of returning starters and AA players than last year did. So the 40+ pages that will follow in all likelihood will contain many of the same flames of roster size concerns, the unfairness of 5th and 6th years etc etc. And, spoiler alert, next year starter(s) will graduate, player(s) may transfer, someone may even stop playing in general… and life will go on.

Re: York 2024
Should have just kept the 2023 York thread going, and removed the 2023 from the title. Would look bigger. Like the nescac thread

Re: York 2024
Is there something going on at York? I’ve heard that they had more players enter the portal. 7+ players in the portal all in the same week seems like a lot especially for a program like York.
Re: York 2024
Having a few of your best young players enter the portal is definitely abnormal and definitely indicates something’s going on. York has one of the strongest team cultures I’ve seen and their coach is a an amazing leader. It makes no sense why that many kids would enter the portal just to “explore their options”.

Perhaps the idea that there is amazing leadership isn’t all true? Coaching and leading are two very separate things.Laxguy703 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 9:06 pmHaving a few of your best young players enter the portal is definitely abnormal and definitely indicates something’s going on. Re: York 2024
Perhaps, but seems baseless and unlikely considering the facts; he’s had plenty worse seasons and lead his team out of them, the number and talent level of 5+ year players both currently and historically sticking around to remain under his tutelage foregoing other opportunities, the number of his former players in coaching positions, his high regard in the coaching community where leadership is identified and evaluated…and pretty much every other tangible piece of information out there other than “having players in the portal.”LaxFan1991 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 9:55 pm

One could much more easily suggest something negative about one or more of the players leaving. But I myself wouldn’t do that before they’ve found a home(s). When y’all are complaining about the 40 page York thread next May while York is still playing, just remember the shade you kept trying to throw contributed to it.
Re: York 2024
As far as I know there are only 4 in the portal while three others are simply not returning. I think that distance from home has something to do with some of this. But, remember that very few of these kids were abe to get a full experience on their recruiting visit I do not believe that over night visits were allowed on 2020 or 2021 or even 2022 if I recall correctly. So some of them may have gotten there and realized the vibe was not for them.
All of it is speculation unless you know the particular kid.

Re: York 2024
No idea as to the why behind any of this. 7 players are in the portal, all of them are underclassman.
In order of the Day they were added:
Ryan Kazella 5/24
Eric Burbank 5/25
Christopher Koltzan 5/30
Ben Mayer 6/1
Tyler Palehonki 6/2
Jack Hooper 6/5
Aidan DeJuluis 6/5

Re: York 2024
well, DeJulius left the program earlier in the season so he is not on the Roster. The others, Some I know others I don't but none I will share on a public forum.. But, none have to do with the Culture of the program, as far as I know
Re: York 2024
100% could be a reason for an individual(s) leaving. I could see that for the FO kid. 3 strong classes ahead of him and returning a stud… same for middie who struggled producing.
Point was the leadership is being sought after, not what was baselessly suggested.
