Re: Amazing Game at The Pat
Early Season Patriot Slugfest due to FCPS date mismanagement forcing this game to be moved up a month! An early YC on the Cavs Got #19 her second FPS & #1 got one also as #19 got her hat-trick with a low shot...4-1 Spartans. Cavs stormed back to make it 4-4. Cavs had a disasterous minute allowing not one but two goals to be down 4-6 with time running out in the 1st Half. The Cavs got their transition game rolling and then used a make-it-take-it quick stike to tie it at 6 before the half.
Second half #19 made her hat-trick of FPS early as people began to wonder if she had the luck of the Irish by having double the FPS than the entire Cav squad. Cavs finally tied it at 7 with each possession in the half a battle. Sparty gets another #19 FPS to go up by one 8-7 and then it became a game of momentum swings as Sparty tried to hold onto the ball but Cavs desperately pressing out on them. It looked over when Cavs got a YC with 2 minutes left...game over. However, Cav steal and #6 goes end to end dodges the multiple Spartans in the arc and takes a big check from behind into the goal crease but still scores to tie it. Not so fast, a late in the crease wipes that out. Keep away to end the game but again man-down Cavs steal the ball and have a shot but Sparty's excellent goalie comes out and gets a piece of Cavs shooter. Ref stops clock as the Cav player is down in the back of the crease. Ride turns the ball over again with 30 seconds left and Cavs get a FPS but #12 can't stick it ...wide left. Sparty goalie goes to handle the ball, no one better but #12 steals it and leaps over lunging goalie to score the tieing goal with 5 seconds left! Stick check on goal scorer comes up empty onto OT!
OT starts with a Sparty DC and possesses ball with a TO. They move the ball and get the shot but Cav Goalie shrugs it wide off the shoulder. Ball goes over to Cavs and they use their TO. Sparty girl goes for the clip from behind on the clearing player and gets a YC with about a minute left. Cav attacker finds a crack in the zone and sticks it 9-8 Cavs. Chick-fil-A in the house and the rain held off!

Re: Annandale Tourney Scores
Thanks for reporting! Some interesting scores - the cardinal direction teams West (Springfield) and South (County and Lakes) appeared to shine? Hope all teams remained injury free as the season continues to revv up.
Showdown Week is Here...
With the first week of real action under our belts (pre-season scrimmages, while nice, can’t really be judged as some play to win, some play to see what they got, and some just try to play everyone before shortening the benches), we have seen some movement as some teams are, as Dennis Green once said, “who we thought they were” and some aren’t (for better or worse), so no reason to let them off the hook. It’s time for the new rankings….
1) Oakton (2-0)– Wins over Langley and Bullis show us the Cougars have come to play this year, and they will get a chance to prove it Tuesday night with a #1 vs. #2 showdown that should be worth the $5 admission if the snack bar is open.
2) Woodson (2-0)– WTW moves up to #2 with wins against two of the best GKs in Class 6 this past week, albeit escaping from Sparty on Friday in OT. Not only will Tuesday’s matchup likely determine next week’s #1 team, it could also set up the leader for state POY as a pair of the best middies do battle.
3) Battlefield (1-0) – The Bobcats get a shot at redemption Monday night as they enter the championship rematch as the home favorite. With all the message board posting about the Bobcats, failure to win this one may just leave them as a cartoon in a cartoon graveyard. They’ve looked good early so far, and I hear they are getting healthy. Yorktown and Robinson games this week give them the chance to take the next step and get people beyond this pollster to believe in them.
4) Yorktown (1-1) – Some have been writing off the defending champs, but not many publics hang within single digits of SSSAS and then go out and handle Robinson. While injuries may have played some factor in those results, the Patriots are still a force to be reckoned with and their next 4 games give them a chance at a direct path back to the top spot.
5) Centreville (3-0) – The Wildcats have rolled early, but step up in competition with Yorktown coming to town on Friday. Their middie pair has been dominant so far, can they keep it up?
6) Madison (1-0) – Not many teams go to the Coffey shop and win, but some of the luster of the Robinson win came off after the Yorktown-Rams game. Coach Counts usually starts with the slower schedule and builds, and early results looks like she is doing it again.
7) Langley (1-1)– Went toe-to-toe with Oakton for the first 40 minutes showing what could be, but couldn’t stay within range down the stretch. Pulled out a solid 13-11 win at Westfield in a competitive and close game. Hope to catch Woodson on an Oakton hangover this weekend.
8) West Springfield (3-1) – The Dean of the Patriot District seems to have reloaded and “coached them up”, as folks that were at the Pat on Friday night tell me the Spartans looked like the real deal in going toe-to-toe with the Cavs. Backed up the Woodson performance with 2 solid wins over Maret and Westfield at Annandale on Saturday where they gave up a combined total of 4 goals in 2 games.
9) Robinson (0-2) – Tough losses to solid teams this past week, but the Rams still have talent and I expect they will be there in the end. Led Yorktown early, before the Patriots broke out. Robo gets a shot to right the ship on Monday against an improving South County team.
10) West Potomac (1-0) – Solid win against Marshall in the opener, but the Annandale Tournament next weekend against Justice and South Lakes should tell us a lot more.
11) Westfield (2-2) – The Bulldogs handled Fairfax in their opener, and got a solid win over Lake Braddock at Annandale. I hear they had their chance to tie late down 1 against Langley and I expect they will continue to get better. Games with Marshall and Herndon this week should give them a chance to get back on track.
12) South Lakes (3-0) – Much like their NFL namesake this past season, the Seahawks are starting off strong after being off the radar. Quietly put together 3 solid wins this past week and seems to be on the upswing. Step up in competition this week with McLean, WestPo and Justice.
13) South County (3-0) – The Stallions have one of the biggest varsity rosters out there with 28 on the varsity squad, but it seems to be working with them early on as they have rolled to a 3-0 record out of the gate. A trip to Robinson on Monday should tell us a lot more. They do need to learn how to schedule their own tournaments though, as they seem to have given themselves a 24-2 team (last season) from Illinois and Oakton back-to-back next Saturday.
14) Justice (1-0) – Big win as expected over Wakefield doesn’t tell us much, but games with WestPo, W&L, and South Lakes next Saturday will. Still strong favorites in the National District based on other results.
15) McLean (1-0) – High hopes for the Highlanders with an opening win over Riverside. While the Rams are not what they have been in the past right now, McLean is on the upswing and deserves some recognition.

1 glaring team stands out at #2 with Woodson. They won't be competitive with Oakton and aren't top 5.
The rest looks overall pretty spot on. Westfield has a lot of talent and will keep getting better. They had to play 3 games in less than 24 hours and 3 good opponents. Watch out for them. Lake Braddock is better than Justice. Mclean should move up as the season goes on. Madison should be Top 5 with WTW coming in around 6.
POY is a little early to only focus on 2 players. There are a few other middies out there in the conversation as they are showing dominance early in the season.
Some big games this week, starting with tonight's Yorktown/Battlefield matchup.

Woodson is starting all Srs and Jrs this year, and they've been to the state tourney the last two years, so I think they will prove the doubters wrong and you right, but we will see. The good news is that we get to figure it out on the field this week and not the keyboards!

Battlefield 18, Yorktown 5. 12-2 at the half.
Re: 2023 Virginia Public GLax
Robinson 18 - South County 6
A big bounceback by the Rams yesterday. Dominating on the draw, and big games from our studs, and even bigger one from our freshman phenom #19 picking up a bunch of goals and showing why she's the top newcomer in the Patriot District this year. And everyone got to play, including all 3 goalies. Big task Saturday with Battlefield it looks like based on last night.

Congrats to Battlefield, great win and shows they are a top 3 team and force in 6A this season.
With Yorktown blowing out Robinson, this Saturday's matchup should be interesting.

I should have listened to Skipper BABY as after tonight's blowout by Oakton we can seed Woodson below the Buford T. Justice Sheriffs but just above the Jerry Lewis Comics!Captain BBY wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 9:05 am
Nice update and detail.
1 glaring team stands out at #2 with Woodson. They won't be competitive with Oakton and aren't top 5.

Fax are, Oakton won, WTW did not. Was it closer than expected, yes, but lots of chatter about how Oakton was over hyped, not that good, blah blah. They are the top until someone knocks them off.
As for Top 5 before this weekend, WTW stays in with Yorktown falling far.
Oakton
Battlefield
Centreville (coin toss with Madison)
Madison
Woodson
