Still, they kept grinding it out and earned the win. Have to give some credit for that.

The Midshipmen, as always, were tough on their turf.

100%. Well, except the UNC game. Doesn't excuse the very rough performance overall but that's two straight games on the road they've shut the door when it mattered most.

Another good effort from Marcille. 7 GBs for Mazzone. Carson Brown another precocious showing.

Goes without saying that if they play like that again on Sunday, they'll lose. Possibly by a lot.

Just read that no. 1 seed Purdue lost to no. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson in the NCAA basketball tournament.

The average height of FDU players is only 6ft 1in. I suspect even the Johns Hopkins men’s basketball team is taller than that.

Arguably the greatest upset in college basketball history. Sadly, the Purdue players will never live this down.

So … the Blue Jays played ok tonight, relatively speaking.

UMBC-UVA?

It's close, but UMBC was much more talented than a 16 seed that year. FDU was the last team on the S-Curve. Wouldn't have even gotten in if not for Merrimack still being in an transitional period per the NCAA's archaic transition rule.

-12-9 was the consensus score I think most people anticipated. This game was closer because Hopkins in year 1 of crawley continues to not have the cohesiveness and consistency that JK has developed at the other end.
-Navy broadcasters did a nice job. They said early Hopkins depth would be the difference.
-Stuart Phillips was back for his fan club on here.
-The broadcast production was awful. How many faceoffs did we miss because they were still on the last shots.
-51 has talked a lot here about the offensive talent issues. At attack, midfield, and we see that in a lot of these games.
-6-3 was the very optimistic scenario coming into the season at this point. There's been a lot of progress this season.

It is probably true that the defense is ahead of the offense in terms of cohesion/chemistry at this point. But a couple things: As much as Navy has struggled this year, they've still largely played good D. They have a player in Bonitz who'd be starting on any team in the country. To put up 12 on them on the road is not a bad number. And if you look closer — we only had 1 EMO goal and zero in transition, meaning 11 of 12 goals were in half-field 6v6 sets. The clearing woes and uncharacteristic Benny Hill moments leave a sour taste but when the offense had the ball (losing faceoffs didn't help), they were fine, especially in the second half.

Production was indeed terrible. Think they had a baby operating the camera. That was our final janky broadcast of the season — Sunday's game is ESPN+ again but it's an actual ESPN production, and then everything after that is either ESPNU or BTN.

Well we are not sending that game to the Hall of Fame to be looped on a monitor in the "Offense" wing. If it's a good sign to beat a team when you are not playing your "A" game then Hopkins fans got a very good sign. The stretch from the 2nd quarter to the just before the Degnon man-up goal was as unfocused and flat as you can get. Navy's effort obviously had something to do with it but at one point JHU couldn't execute a pass from one player to another. There are not many mysteries to this game - the defense played fairly well and Tim played great again (except for one or two outlet passes) but the mental lapses that led to the turnovers helped on many Navy goals. Once again Hopkins shot pretty well - even in the horror show of a third quarter they shot 67% (4 of 6). Hopkins shot 31% Navy shot 24% - there's the glaring difference in the game. Other thoughts:
- I know Hopkins can justifiably feel no team gets any sympathy about injuries bur no Skalniak and Swanson helped a fair bit - if they play - oh boy
- Milliman's response on Peshko was mildly interesting - when asked to evaluate him because good things always seemed to happen when he was on the field - ball coach said "Well it doesn't always seem that way" He then went on to offer some compliments but clearly coaches want more consistency.
- Hopkins surely must think shot clock operators are overworked and underpaid as it feels like you could go get a cup of coffee for 70 seconds when Hop has the ball and the only thing you have to worry about is a turnover. It's a contributing factor I am sure why they shoot fairly well but at some point the numbers just may not work. Rutgers and Penn State are pretty close to 50 shots per game - Maryland 45 - Michigan 40. On the goalie side Fraycon is at 57% Rupple 59% Mullin 54% So you are about to embark on a very tough road and if you generate only 35ish shots per game you might not score 12 and then you are asking something heroic from Marcille and the defense.
- Angelus must run a marathon during a game - they ask alot of that kid and he will be one tired puppy by 9 pm Sunday.
- If Hopkins has a strength on offense it is that they have some variety in scoring - 8 guys with at least 6 goals and Evans has 7 point in 5 games and Chauvette has 5 goals - the shot at the end of the 3rd period last night was huge. Of course not many other teams have played 9 games.
