2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
During the year that we dropped Dartmouth and Hobart and added Denver and Yale, we created a compensation system where if you had a player from Dartmouth or Hobart on your line-up, you'd get a 3rd Round pick or 5th Round Pick or etc. during the Draft. The picks were based on how many years of eligibility your player had left and how many points they had in the previous season. Before the 2023 Draft, I/we need to find the details of this compensation system and/or create a facsimile of it.

Lehigh yo-yos. These are their previous 10 seasons up to 2021: 39, 9, 16, 29, 30, 45, 35, 27, 27, 11. 2022 is looking like #30.

But it's relative. Not so many teams are better over the past 10-20 years. Lehigh is for sure a possibility. I think the only obvious "we really should put them in" is Villanova. The other 2 are less obvious though... a couple do seem to stand-out. Besides being good and having schedules that include our current teams and etc., we cannot ignore that we want teams that we like/enjoy. Fun matters...

Fun does matter. We only have two Big East teams now, so adding Villanova makes sense. Villanova also seems to schedule teams like Maryland, Penn State, some ivies, so that's good.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 4:28 pmBut it's relative. This is exciting. This draft may be jam packed with good players.

The transfer portal may remove players who don’t go to a league team before the draft

Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
I have Bryce Ford M/A Fairfield who has 2 or 3 years eligibility left, he was injured most of this year but if healthy he would be a starter.
Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
It seems to me, given the players listed, giving a 3 rd round pick is over compensating by a lot
Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
Have we decide on the teams in and out for 2023 then?
Better to just make a choice and go with it!

Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
I am inclined to agree.
I think there are about 5/6 or
so viable options.
Nova
Lehigh
Brown
Harvard
Jax
HP.
Might be overlooking someone
Teams to consider dropping for me
FF
Hof
UMBC
Maybe set up a poll.

Probably should add Richmond to my list
Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
As a semi-aside, this is where our discussion on this subject started: https://fanlax.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=372168#p372168.
I inserted the 2022 Final Rankings into our NCAA Team Rankings and this is our new NCAA Team Rankings based every season from 2005 until 2022 (directly below). We currently have 24 NCAA teams. That Fairfield and UMBC are ranked #39 and #37 over the past numerous years shouts, "Drop them!". Hofstra at #32 isn't much better. But with 24 teams, it's not awful. As for the teams to add, Villanova is an obvious one as they're ranked #17 and their rankings over the past 10 years are pretty good: 21 21 30 27 16 20 21 18 14 15. And moving in the right direction. The 2nd team to add, and possibly third, is not as obvious. Based on the numbers, I'm not so sure that Hofstra should be replaced. I've posted a list of the rankings over the past 10 years of the candidates for inclusion as well as Hofstra's (far below).

10 players in the 2022 season were on Fairfield, UMBC, and Hofstra. (6 were seniors, I believe. With Corona, I'm frequently wrong.) The four underclassmen and their points in 2022 were:
CalLaxDad
Nick Dupuis JR A UMBC 8
DU-Fan
Jake Coleman SO A Fairfield 1
Greenielax
Sam Lufti JR A Hofstra 6
ohmilax34
Josh Tang FR A UMBC 4
In other words, dropping these 3 teams would not be very painful for anyone.

Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
If we dropped them we would need three replacements. I can imagine differences of opinion.
Maybe rank x teams top to bottom and total points or maybe an elimination eg 10 down to 5 down to 3. It would take two votes instead of 1

Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
I was just thinking about this. I'm ready to vote. It's funny that the teams we'll be voting on are teams I mostly ignore, only because they aren't fantasy teams for us. It'll be neat to follow 2-3 new teams.
Re: 2023 - New NCAA Teams that Count
I agree. Following three news teams would be refreshing. I would cast my vote but any teams would be welcome even if i did not ote for them

Bryce Ford JR M Fairfield Genghiskhanbluejay 10
Bryce Ford scored 10 points as a redshirt sophomore, was team captain and missed half the seasons games because of injury, hes not on your list but is and would be the best player lost on a dropped team. Ford would be a starter and big loss for me if he came back and was a healthy junior. I would even bet if healthy and playing a full schedule he would be a top 25 scorer in 2023
