Ben Carson, when growing up, _was_ dependent on the government as his family needed the money, and would have not flourished without it.

The fact that his family did not need it forever is both a testament to the usefulness of such programs, and the ability of the family to use that assistance to rise out of that situation.

So the statement made that he was NOT dependent on the government was nonsense unless qualified as I just did above.

The real problem with Dr. Carson was that while I am sure he was a great surgeon, he did not appear to me to be actually qualified to be president (and would have maybe been the least qualified person to be elected to office were he to have been elected in YEARS) nor qualified to run HUD.

The fact he did not last long as a candidate in a party that for the most part accept people like him is consistent with that last statement (at least the part of being president).

I may not like his politics (I agree on the idea he was quite extreme on the right), but I don't need to use that as an excuse to not want him anywhere near the federal government. Qualifications do mean a lot to me.

Nurses do it because they are dedicated and they love what they do. There are even some days what you do makes a difference in peoples lives. There are some days the nurse comes home and cries because the patient she treated for a long time suddenly dies during your shift. It could be all those nurses just do it for the money? In my life, I’ve found that those who constantly beseech America to become a leftist redoubt, are the same folks who, if they won the lottery, wouldn’t give a penny to their best friend. They end up the most selfish, least altruistic, most arrogant lowlifes I’ve met. Many live in large cities. Many send kids to private schools.
