Covid deaths now surpass Spanish flu deaths. Congratulations to the tin hat right wing pundits who trash talk vaccination.

Companies with nation wide scope have reported on rate of vaccination mostly being explained by geography. Indication that hesitancy is BS. Many are moving on. 85-90% of employees ain’t stupid. Train is leaving.

I will add the planet is more populated but it’s a terrible look…..200,000 American deaths was called fear porn. 200,000 or 700,000 who cares unless its you, your wife or kids. We have a right to do as we please. Screw the other guy.

I'm not sure hesitancy is BS, but it is totally overblown as an indicator of how many will choose vaccination when pressed.

I should have added that covid deaths in USA surpass those in 1918 plague. And while it is true that we have more people, we also have far more medicine and vaccines. Sad that those right wing pundits don't give a flying shtttt about human lives while so many call themselves "pro life".

Yes. The reasons given are BS. When pressed they will fall in line or be left at the station. It’s about to be tested.

Those screaming "fear porn" last summer should be ashamed of their nonsense. They're not, of course. Because in America, folks would rather die than admit they were wrong......

This may cannibalize Ivermectin sales but Merck is all in.
,,, it won't. The right wing clowns think they are the same thing and Ivermectin costs less.
they're waiting on the principle trial and avoiding covid in the meantime.

slightly disappointed that it wasn't in the 2/3 to 80% neighborhood for more severe disease, but you can't have everything. with such a low powered trial for endpoint of death (0 vs 8), it may be tough to make anything of that yet, but promising.
couldn't tell, did they actually stop the trial or just applying with interim results?

merck's gonna clean up at $1000+ a pop.

and question... for the purposes of what merck means by 10 million doses... is a dose per pill, daily regimen (8 pills) or full regimen (40 pills)?
Merck price is currently $700 per 5 day (40 pill) treatment course. Cheaper than all the other early treatment options.

Makes a lot of sense.

We've all known that "vaccine hesitancy" (at least the kind that still exists at this point) is almost completely BS and has nothing to do with real medical or scientific or religious concerns. Which is why almost all vax deniers bleeting about "muh ruy-iots" fold like a lawn chair if required to pay a couple hundred bucks.

Probably not really that much about partisan politics and individual rights either. Just so happens that white inferiority fears these days correlate strongly with Trumpy red politics, Fox News, guns, etc. Seems to about culture and race -- like a lot of stuff is in the USA.

I think you could make a really interesting college course by bundling critical redneck theory together with critical race theory. Teach the 1619 Project and also Hillbilly Elegy.

Part of the problem was that we didn’t give scientists a chance to study the virus, mask compliance and long term vaccination effectiveness. We shouldn’t have taken any mitigation steps until all of those boxes were checked. Probably would have saved more lives.

Regarding hesitancy, why can’t the military get their shirt together. The Marine Corp with just 58% AVX rate at the end of August, cancelled the Marine Corp Marathon last week with barely a months notice. Col Brooks telling the entrants to adjust, claims his people are trained to adapt and overcome but it sure doesn’t seem like it, especially having gone through this drill last year.

“The 46th Marine Corps Marathon is now a virtual event! We are excited and look forward to seeing the results of your hard work and dedication over the past year,” said Colonel Brooks, commanding officer of Marine Corps Installations National Capital Region – Marine Corps Base Quantico. “Although we were not able to conduct a live event for 2021, we trust that each of you understand that safety for you and our great support team took priority. As Marines, we are trained to adapt and overcome, and this is a great test of your ability to adapt and overcome all things this year has presented. I ask that you run hard and with purpose, and finish strong!Be safe everyone! Semper Fi!”

Rick Nealis the race director, tried downplaying the fact that NYC, usually with 50k+ this year only 30k+ running with COVID standards, the Boston Marathon - the most prestigious marathon in the world, Chicago and others.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... -canceled/

“I know some people will point to Boston, New York or Chicago or somebody is going to tell me that maybe the Washington Football Team is playing football that day, and that’s decisions those organizations have to make,” he said. “The Marine Corps Marathon, part of the United States Marine Corps, we’re held at a higher standard.”

Sorry, I know they now have a mandate in place but I just had to vent as I was entered last year and ran the “virtual” race in full agreement the race and others should have been canceled. However, after deferring last year’s entry to this year, waiting for my third Moderna shot if needed, I was looking forward to it.

Oh well, rather than the MCM on Halloween, I’ll be hitting the streets of Philly running their marathon just before Thanksgiving. Actually, that might work out as I’ll have burned a few calories and won’t mind loading up on turkey day food.

Everyone finally figuring out why the .gov does vaccine mandates?

I hope this is the end of this sad chapter of our history, and these tree stumps don't go after .gov mandates for children's vaccines for polio, mumps, measels, etc.
