BC played the #5 ranked team; #4 twice; #3 four times; and #1 twice. 9 games against the top 5 ranked teams. All in the ACC. That’s what I meant by the best teams in the country.Bart wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 7:23 amIf we are casting aspersions regarding the competition one could easily point to the 8 goals vs Albany, 7 goals vs Fairfield, 8 goals vs. Temple, 6 vs Hofstra and 10 vs VT (Murphy scored 9 vs UMass Lowell; 8 vs UMBC; 8 vs Binghamton; 8 vs Hofstra and 6 vs UNH) all teams that one may question your assertion as the best teams in the country.Cletus wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 4:54 am
As an aside--I'm delighted she broke the record for goals scored in a season. The previous record had all kinds of asterisks all over it coming from the weak sisters of the poor America East conference. With North setting the record against the best teams in the country, no one (rational) can question the validity of the single season goal scoring record.
BC played 17 games against ranked opponents this year, 9 vs top five. SB played 7 games against ranked opponents in 2016, 2 vs top five.
RV Fairfield and Temple are Tournament teams. That is to North’s credit.
As far as the goals:Bart wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 7:23 am Ms. North deserves the record, she put the ball in the back of the net. Ms. North, imo, deserves the Tewy as she had the best year. But building her up by casting dispersion on the competition the previous record holder is just stupid. If you look closely one can make the same conclusions......
In ’16, Murphy scored 48 of her 100 goals in conference.
Stony Brook had these in conference results in 2016. Goals scored by Murphy follow.
Albany 13-4 4g
UMBC 17-5 8g
Vermont 19-8 5g
Binghamton 16-0 8g
New Hampshire 11-4 4g
UMass Lowell 23-2 9g
NH 17-4 6g
Albany 10-9 4g
SB outscored in conf opponents 126 to 36
6 of the 7 other members of the ACC were ranked when BC played them in conference.
