It is the job of the cops to deal with people who are drunk, stupid, high, sketchy and criminal.

If you don't want to deal with people who are (or potentially are) criminals, scared, drunk, high, uncooperative, etc. get a different job. Duh.

But if you are going to do that job, your tactics and training should help you deal with these situations in ways that will keep BOTH you and your suspect safe.

Typical police MO and culture is to always always escalate and never back down. That's dangerous, even without adding in race and other factors. Data proves that de-escalation is safer for both cops and perps. Many of these "awful but lawful" situations are avoidable. Hire and train people who will avoid these avoidable situations. Many of them (like Windsor, VA) are just stupid beyond belief.

But until you get that different job, you still gotta deal with the crazy f**ks your going to interact with every damn day. So your
hope and wish is the next cop coming down the pipeline will somehow get it right? If that cop can't get it right then maybe the next cop will and so on and so forth. Stunning there ggait you don't see the abject stupidity in your logic. I would suggest you think about it and mull it over a bit in your cranium. Then your a lawyer by trade so thinking outside of the FLP liberal box is not exactly your strong suit.

My take, Army boy, is that if the cops tuned up one of our Jar Heads this way.......it wouldn't go well.

They will be the same effing criminals that have always hated the cops for generations. The cat and mouse game will go on. The bad guys will do everything in their power to break the law and stay the eff out of jail. The cops now need to be kinder and gentler and more understanding of the fact that career criminals don't want to be arrested and go to jail or back to jail. Nobody that i know of as of yet has explained how this magical feat is to be accomplished. Once you retrain the cops, the same criminals will still never give a flying flipping pancake about respecting law enforcement. Their end game is to do what ever they have to do to stay the eff out of prison. The same open question to everybody out there reading this. How do you change the mindset of the criminals to be kinder and gentler murderers, armed robbers and rapists and child molesters and such? My gut instinct tells me they don't give a flying flipping pancake what the police force looks like to them. If they can get over on the system and stay out of prison, that is a win in their book.
