Is there a reason this decision has not been made yet? we're talking about maybe 95 student athletes, 14 staffers, limited revenue for the university, and 8 months to think about this.

Daniels/Shanahan probably put no less than 40-50 beuracrats on this whose annual salaries probably go deep in the millions for something as simple as asking the hospital what the recommendations are, agreeing w/rosemont, coming up with a schedule and issuing a press release.

You folks do understand that President Daniels is (so far) having a presidency that would rank him among the greatest presidents of Johns Hopkins?

That would depend on one's perspective.
I could make the case the other way.

reeder was a milliman recruit to cornell who flipped to stanford football. Xanders is know for his colorful language, but sounds like a good player jameson could've done some fine work with. David Shaw has a great rep so can't blame him, but wonder if PM tried to get him to come to Hopkins. Also not clear to me when a coach switches schools as PM did if there's a gentlemans agreement he won't go after kids he'd previously recruited to cornell.

If the kid reaches out first, it's fair game.
Charboneau verbally committed to Cornell before the start of his junior campaign at Blue Ridge. One of the biggest reasons for his commitment to the Big Red was his relationship with Coach Peter Milliman. The three-time All-American at Gettysburg College spent two and a half years in charge at Cornell before leaving to take over the Johns Hopkins program.

That prompted Charboneau to re-evaluate his college options. The senior attackman reached out to Milliman at the request of Blue Ridge coach Michael Herring, and the two discussed the possibility of joining him at Johns Hopkins.

“At first, I was timid to talk to Coach Milliman, but Coach Herring convinced me to hear him out,” Charboneau said. “In our first conversations, with him as head coach at Johns Hopkins, we talked for an hour and a half. He answered all of my questions and I was beginning to become sold on becoming a Blue Jay.”

I don't know anything about this Reeder kid but there isn't a lacrosse program in the world that can compete with Stanford football...especially if the kid is from California. They already have a former UNC lax commit on the roster—a top-ranked DC area recruit who played club ball with Joey Epstein.

Very interesting article - highlights just how much deeper and more competitive lacrosse has become. When you have kids who are athletic enough to play power 5 football, you have some serious athletes playing lacrosse. I'd think it would be a bit of a wake up call to the pay to play lacrosse parents.

Asking, for a friend:

What the heck is a preferred walk-on? (in reference to a Div. I football ) How can a "walk on" committ?

Preferred walk-ons are guaranteed a spot on the roster. Their preferred status means the college coach wants the recruit on their team, but the coach doesn't have a scholarship for them. In football, this is a common way to recruit specialist positions like kickers and punters.

https://www.google.com/search?q=preferred+walk+on
AIUI, without a scholarship, there is no legally binding contract, so I suppose the 'guarantee' is dependent on the coach's honor or at least his fear for his reputation.

Saint Ignatius Prep CA head coach Chris Packard is a
Cornell alum, so I don’t know if that entered into the
decision or whether he even considered the switch
to Hopkins with Milliman there now.
Pete Worstell’s kid got preferred walk on status to
play football at Berkeley following a two year
lacrosse commit to Syracuse.

Div. I football doesn't split all those scholarships up? Only lacrosse has to do this? On it's face, it is insanity.

But, what this is really saying is, these kids are rich. They don't need scholarship money to play. At all.

To be clear, this is questioning the n$aa and not the kids and their families. How can this even be legal? A non-scholarhip athlete IS guaranteed a spot on the roster? Does THIS sound sane to you? Read it out loud. To your former coach. And let us know if it sounds sane.

Who thought of this, some Fairfield County ,CT. parent?

Always been the case. Always.

Are the "walkons" going to , well, actually. PLAY?

Why can't college lacrosse offer roster spots to "walk ons", like, apparently, football does.

This is really news to me. Never heard of it.. A "walk on" guaranteed a roster spot. just bizzare.

Interesting story about Hopkins walk ons from the Ciccarone days:

Star gets in trouble, walk on gets kicked off the team.

So, they are useful.

WOW....if true, truly a disgusting story.

I heard players choose Hopkins because you didnt' have to take a drug test because of it's Div. 3 status. Is this also true?

I don't think I was ever so nervous to await the test results, for others. You see, I peed for half the team. Xtsy wasn't illegal yet, but pot was. Didn't like smoking at the time, so my pee was clean. The older players didn't think it was funny when I joked I forgot I smoked with the squirrells the other nite.......threatened to "destroy" me and bury me out in the bog near the brewery. All passed. Boy, did I get laid that weekend.

true story? or , cat pictures
