Yes, I understand that, especially the added cost involved. But I would like to see the kids at least be given the option to play for four years. This all is obviously an evolving situation.laxfan22 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 2:27 pmSure, but many of these kids have jobs lined up and many probably aren't likely to be in a position to return to college and pay another 60K. It's not like major D1 football or someplace where they have full scholarships that can be renewed. It really sucks and it's an impossible decision. Personally, i wish they would have maybe suspended games for 2/3 weeks initially to see what occurs.
COVID-19 (coronavirus) impact on Women's Lacrosse

Re: COVID-19 (coronavirus) impact on Women's Lacrosse
So....
Why doesn't the NCAA just take the lead on this. Announce that the entire season (all levels D1 to D3, men & women) put on hold until April 15 (or some other date when this starts dying down). Cancel all non-conference games but have teams squeeze their conference games into a 2-3 week period in late April and early May. Eliminate conference tournaments, push the NCAA tournament back a week or two, regular season conference champs get tournament bids, and go from there?

Re: COVID-19 (coronavirus) impact on Women's Lacrosse
That is similar to my thoughts on the previous page. Unfortunately, it will be a scheduling/travel nightmare to jam a bunch of games into a limited time frame. It might come down to playing previously scheduled games as they were and then squeezing in games if it works for both schools. Then just run the League tourneys as scheduled and go on from there....Or, punt on the whole thing and give another year of eligibility to all. And if you give eligibility, who covers the cost of the 4+ scholarships that you will be doubling up on with a new class coming in?Lurker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 3:44 pm So....

The NCAA is 100% focused on making sure the MEN'S BBall tourney goes on as expected. I would not expect any heroics or leadership from them.Lurker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 3:44 pm So....

A redshirt might work for some players, but what about the kids who are scheduled to graduate on time? And they aren't receiving a full ride... how many are going to go back for an extra year of school (that's not free) just to play one more season of lax? And what about seniors who already have jobs lined up after graduation or who are already accepted and planning to go post-graduate.
I just wish they'd find a way to postpone and extend the 2020 season instead of out right canceling.

Ivies don't give scholarships ... and the cost is closer to $75/year. So even if they could come back for a 5th year, would probably be somewhere else. And the majority of seniors have jobs.Lurker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 3:58 pm A redshirt might work for some players, but what about the kids who are scheduled to graduate on time? Now it's just a question of one-up-ing each other on the panic button.

I can see the PAC 12 following this, especially since Stanford were one of the first places to switch to virtual classes and start sending people away from campus..laxorangebookworm wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 4:24 pmAnd the insanity continues...laxlaxlax wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 3:38 pm Ivy League cancels all spring sports...

Good question, though my statement was more geared towards everyone in general. It's starting in the educational establishments. How long before this panic starts shutting down areas that are absolutely critical to our country? Not a panic statement, I'm asking seriously. I'm not too concerned about the virus, but this has the potential to go south very quickly if we're not careful and it seems like the educational establishments are the ones leading the panic charge.laxlaxlax wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 4:35 pmI can see the PAC 12 following this, especially since Stanford were one of the first places to switch to virtual classes and start sending people away from campus..laxorangebookworm wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 4:24 pmAnd the insanity continues...laxlaxlax wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 3:38 pm Ivy League cancels all spring sports...

It is not about whether 70 year old men and women play college sports, and not about how we've dealt with regular flu in the past; it is about the exceptionally high rate of infection from this virus crossing the globe now and the virus reaching into communities in which it can still be abated. We are, umm, all in this together. And college sports and commencements are a small price to pay to stave off further social, health and economic dislocation and disruption.urgettingwhatuaxed4 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 8:57 amWhat did we cancel for the over 61,000 people who died from the flu in the US last flu season?Bart wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 8:10 amAge is but 1 factor. Re: COVID-19 (coronavirus) impact on Women's Lacrosse
just heard from daughter - have to go pick her up Friday/Saturday. No sports for next 3 weeks, online classes during that time and then reassess in early April. They will have the ability to reschedule missed games if other teams can accommodate - actually a pretty reasonable overall approach.
btw, just heard that march madness goes on, but with no Fans allowed at games!!

Patriot league is still open for business, as far as I know

Maryland announces restrictions on sports teams games through at least April 10. Home and away games will continue, but spectator participation will be limited (presumably this means for home games).
