Re: SAA 2024

My son watched the game and said that the Berry goalie -- who I gather is a transfer from Oglethorpe -- was just outstanding. The box score credits both teams with nine saves, but evidently the Berry keeper made some high quality stops to help hold down the Colonels. Berry's athleticism always seems...

Re: Oberlin College

In some ways this is a uniquely Oberlin fiasco. Two years ago, the coach apparently shared a post congratulating the runner up at the 2022 NCAA Swim Championships who had lost to a record-setting, transgender athlete from Penn. Mind you, if she was singularly focused on building a winning program at...

Re: SAA 2020

Just a shout out to the Centre seniors who made up Coach Z's first recruiting class. They are a group of super young men who played a key role in establishing the Colonels as a force in the SAA, and who led them to an outstanding 13-4 season in their final year. After the pier-sixer against BSC in t...

Re: SAA 2020

Was at the Centre vs. BSC game. A hotly contested contest throughout. The Colonels were seemingly in control with a four goal lead early in the 4th quarter, but then repeatedly and fatally turned the ball over on the clear. In addition to Centre's turnover problem, BSC also won most of the contested...

Re: 2022 Virginia Public GLAX

Congrats to all -- we know several of these girls as teammates at one time or another from club lax and/or from in-season competition. Pleased for them and their families.

Re: SAA 2020

I didn't get to see the Centre game, but from what I heard the key to the game was that Rhodes was able to shut down Hubbs. Without him being able to draw the slide or much less score, the basic lack of off-ball movement and creativity that has hamstrung the Colonel's offense much of the season came...

Re: SAA 2020

Still don't love their team offense, but the Centre easily dispatched Rhodes last night 11-4. The defense was outstanding all night, and their young freshman goalie turned in his best game of the season with 15 saves. Will Hubbs had four goals and it was good to see Ridr Knowlton get a pair. They ar...

Re: SAA 2020

Was able to attend this game. Credit to SoVa, who shot the lights the out. I haven't seen the Knights before and so perhaps their performance yesterday wasn't an aberration, but they hit some unbelievable shots on the run. Despite all their sharpshooting the Centre defense more than held its own, es...

Re: SAA 2020

The good news for Centre is that they finally got their number one goalie back from injury. To recap, they need to start a freshman because their all-SAA senior goalie decided to take some time away from the sport. Their starter against Kenyon looked more comfortable and confident than the other opt...

Re: SAA 2020

A young Centre squad beat a similarly inexperienced Wittenberg team 17-13 indoors in Springfield. The Colonels led 7-1 at the end of the first quarter and 12-5 at the half. The Centre ride repeatedly turned over Wittenberg in the first half, fueling repeated opportunities for what looks to be a pote...

Re: SAA 2020

Centre had their first scrimmage today against local NAIA power Cumberland. The news of the spring is that the team will be without their all-SAA goalie, who apparently decided to step away from the game. Although that is clearly a major loss, they do have depth at the position to include a talented...

Re: 2022 Virginia Public GLAX

There is an unexpected coaching opportunity at W-L. After four years, the HC left the program last week. No reason was given for the change. Hopefully a credible candidate can be found, as with decent leadership the team should be broadly competitive again.

Re: Coaching changes

There was an opening in the NCAC that was just filled. During mid-summer Ashley Hughes, former HC at Allegheny College, left for Bridgewater. That vacancy has closed however, as earlier this week Patricia Pehnke was named the new HC of the Gators. According to the presser, she was most recently an a...

Re: SAA 2020

Congratulations to Colorado College. They took advantage of Centre turnovers to jump on the Colonels right away and never looked back. They were clearly the superior team today, and well deserving of moving on in the tournament. But congratulations also to Coach Z and boys for a season they'll never...

Re: SAA 2020

What a game! Centre beats Denison 12-11 in Danville. I hope I have the score right, as the video feed was glitching badly and big Red mounted a furious fourth quarter comeback after having been down by as many as six in the second half. Fantastic job by the Centre goalie and, for most of the game, i...

Re: SAA 2020

Centre wins over Rhodes 11-4 to win the SAA championship and is tournament bound. A fantastic defensive performance by the Colonels, as they shut out the Lynx in the second half. Rhodes had the momentum for the first quarter and a half of play, primarily through using a pole at the X to stymie Centr...

Re: 2021 Virginia Public GLAX

W-L has a young team that unexpectedly caught fire with nine straight wins and seven shutouts to win the Liberty District. They met Madison in the regional finals. The Generals had not faced a team with anything like that combination of athleticism and stick skills, and were on their heels pretty mu...

Re: SAA 2020

Centre defeated Berry 10-7 last night in Danville to move to the SAA Championship. The Colonels will play Rhodes on Sunday. Centre played a plain vanilla offense that couldn't stretch out a big lead and sometimes struggled in the face of Berry's tactics of pressing out on the Colonel's midfield. In ...
