A fun 2019 saw Rhodes widen the gap and finally come up with the conference’s first quality win in the NCAA Tournament.

Looking ahead to 2020, can anyone keep up with Rhodes or is three in a row a forgone conclusion? Does a young Centre team take the next step in year two under Zimmerman? Can Sewanee and Berry replace big graduating classes? How will BSC and Hendrix handle losing their best players on both sides of the ball? Will Ogle ever get out of the basement?

Centre will make a large leap forward. their coaching staff has been all over the map at every event possible to recruit.

Hendrix will continue to struggle to get top tier d3 players to suburban little rock, arkansas. the school is beautiful but the high price tag, all of that travel and a lack of overall lacrosse support will continue to be a hurdle.

BSC continues to land regional recruits who end up performing well. however they are just not as experienced or talented enough to land them in a top spot in the SAA.

Berry still interviewing for an assistant coach but with a salary below $30,000 the applicant pool will remain uninspired.

Centre also hired a third assisant coach who, like coach Zim, played his HS ball at the powerhouse Gilman school. So perhaps in the future they will be able to draw on those connections to compete better with Rhodes and Sewanee for talent from the greater Baltimore/Washington DMV.

This is just a bad take. Around $30,000 for an assistant, especially at the D3 level is a great gig, especially in a low COL area. I am sure he is taking his time to find the right candidate and there is no shortage of qualified candidates.

let's call it 30% in taxes
$21,000/yr
$1750/mth
$405/wk

someone working fast food at $15/hr 8 40 hrs/week makes more than that.
not to mention MOST D3 asst. coaches have to pay their own travel expenses for recruiting. even with the recruiting checks, those dollars disappear.

any coach with a wife &/or child(ren) cannot provide for the family on that pay. especially if that coach is a former player with student loans to pay off/down. even with a 2nd income from the spouse, "pickens" are pretty slim in the Berry area for substantial employment/pay...

to be clear: I am NOT knocking Berry or Coach Gilbert in any way. nmerely pointing out reality facts of the coaching life at the D3 level.

That salary is pretty standard for a full time assistant in D3 lacrosse. Probably more on the high end when it comes to assistants in the SAA and other conferences like the USA South. A lot of assistants would jump at the chance to make a 30k base salary....

You need to look at what most schools pay their head coaches. You’d be surprised. College coaching is one of the worst paying jobs. People do it because they love it. It is why you see so much turnover in both assistant and head coaches.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the reason HC ins the USA South has an opening.

Centre lost a heartbreaker to Wittenberg on the road, 9-8. Up 8-5 midway through the 4th quarter and then lost control of the game. Was at my daughter's 7v7 tourney so couldn't watch more than a snippet online here and there, but a strong if ultimately disappointing opening for Coach Z and the Colonels.

Rhodes finishes a double header opening weekend with wins against Depauw and IWU on the road. At least someone in the SAA is having a strong start to the season...

Rhodes ousts Transy 18-7. Not much of a contest, with ten different lynx scoring. Sewanne falls to Roanoke and Berry falls to Southwestern ( )... Lynx seemed poised for another solid year in what seems like a much weaker SAA.

Centre easily handled Huntingdon today, 16-6. It was 10-0 when play began to get sloppy and Centre seemingly lost focus. It was 10-2 at the half and the Colonels decided to rest their starting goalie the rest of the way. They beat Hanover earlier in the week 12-2. Next up is Ohio Northern at home on Wednesday night.

So did Southwestern suddenly get good? They ran through 3 SAA teams, most notably Berry by a score of 16-8. Can anyone provide some insight here?

So did Southwestern suddenly get good? They ran through 3 SAA teams, most notably Berry by a score of 16-8.

They (SW) were pretty good vs SAA last year losing 1 goal games to Birmingham Southern and Rhodes , so it's a not big difference from what they've done. They'd definitely be competitive in the SAA for 2nd-4th place this year with Centre, BSC, or Sewanee (no ones going to touch Rhodes this season)

Berry and Sewanee definitely seem as though they are not nearly as strong as they have been in years past..seemingly good news for a younger Centre team as they seem to be growing in a positive direction, maybe they can get some easier in-conference wins. Seems like Rhodes will be a tough team to beat, especially during more of a down year in the SAA..will any teams in the conference be able to give Rhodes a run this year? Centre? Maybe? Doubtful? Thoughts on the SAA thus far?
