Streeten and Alfred is being discussed within the D3 Women Forum
Alfred University and AU Director of Athletics Paul Vecchio are pleased to announce the hire of Rebecca Streeten as the head coach of the women’s lacrosse program on Monday, Oct. 12. Streeten will join the Saxon family as the tenth women’s lacrosse head coach in program history.
“I am extremely excited to have Rebecca at the helm of our women’s lacrosse program and as part of our Saxon Athletics Family,” Vecchio said. “Her experiences as a head coach in the Empire 8, an assistant at nationally competitive programs like William Smith and Colby and her local ties to recruiting hotbeds will put our program in a tremendous position of growth in the years ahead. I look forward to the work she will do to continue to foster the outstanding culture that exists in our program already while becoming a competitive force on the field.”
Streeten comes to Alfred with experiences at a pair of perennial lacrosse powers in William Smith and Colby College, and head coaching experience at Empire 8 rival Elmira. At Elmira, Streeten arrived in 2019 and retooled the women’s lacrosse program, growing the number of student-athletes on the team while also staying competitive in the Empire 8 conference. In year one, she coached talented first-year Mikayla Carfello, who led the team with 26 points, via 24 goals and two assists. The 24 goals were the most for an Elmira rookie since 2016. This past season, Streeten and the Soaring Eagles posted an impressive road win at the University of Dallas, before the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the season.
Prior to Elmira, Streeten (nee Lampson) spent two seasons an assistant coach with the Mules of Colby College in 2018, members of the ultra-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). In 2017, Colby posted an impressive 15-4 overall record with an 8-2 mark in conference action. Streeten’s Mules won 13 consecutive games, en route to capturing the NESCAC Championship, the third in program history, earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament and peaking at No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Coaches Poll. Colby advanced to the NESCAC Tournament once again in 2018 and finished the year ranked No. 21 in the country, according to the IWLCA.
During her time at Colby, Streeten helped tutor seven All-Conference, 12 All-Region, and three All-America honorees, as well as the 2017 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and 19 NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team award winners. She also had the opportunity to grow professionally under the mentorship of Colby’s head coach, Karen Henning, a three-time regional and two-time national Coach of the Year.
Prior to joining the Mules, Streeten served as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at William Smith College for two seasons (2014-15) and at Morrisville State College in 2016. At both institutions, she coached a conference Defensive Player of the Year, as William Smith All-American Rachel Hughes was the recipient of the prize from the Liberty League in 2014 and Morrisville’s Jordan Anderson was honored by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in 2016. Streeten’s time with the Mustangs also included two seasons as an assistant field hockey coach, during which she saw eight players collect All-Conference recognition, in addition to NEAC Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year awards in 2016. At Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Streeten also worked full-time in the college’s admissions office for a season.

Streeten was a record-setting women’s lacrosse student-athlete at the Rochester Institute of Technology. A standout midfielder and two-year team captain, the Penn Yan, New York native led the Tigers to four consecutive conference tournaments, three of which came as a member of the Empire 8 Conference from 2009-11.
She had her best collegiate season as a senior in the spring of 2012, when she recorded a career-high 86 points (62g-24a). As a result, she was crowned RIT’s Female Senior Athlete of the Year, as well as an All-Liberty League and IWLCA All-Region Second Teamer. Streeten graduated second all-time in RIT history in points and currently ranks fourth with 196 points (132g-64a). The point and goal totals from her senior campaign are fourth-most in RIT single-season history, and she also ranks among the Tigers’ leaders in assists and draw controls.
A former IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selection and Presidential Scholarship recipient at RIT, Streeten graduated cum laude in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in New Media Marketing and a concentration in Environmental Studies. In December of 2017, she completed her master’s degree in Sports Management from SUNY Cortland.
