Final Four - Cary,NC

Post by Brownlax »

Does anyone know why they moved the final four to Cary, North Carolina?

It’s so far to get to for most of the hot beds. I’ll be interested to see what the attendance numbers are.

Last year it was at Hopkins and they had record setting crowds.

Oh, I thought you meant it had been scheduled to be played somewhere else, but they changed the venue.

As I’m sure you know, they move it around every few years. Wasn’t it at Homewood for two years?

I'm curious about final attendance #'s. I have a rooting interest this weekend but no way I'm driving or flying to NC. I could easily do Baltimore, Philly, Boston even.

They do move it around but you think they would have it in a more centrally located facility.

It will be interesting to see the final attendance numbers, but I suspect they will be down from last year. But last year Maryland was in the final four and the games were in Maryland. Plus Maryland probably has the biggest fan base, who show up in droves, particularly when the games are local. I imagine a lot of Maryland fans bought tickets to both games. Don’t know if attendance is based on ticket sales or on those who actually show up.

Haha. In fairness to them, they always get the short end of the travel stick. Driving up to the Island has a bad reputation, but it really isn’t all that bad if you time it right.

My one trip to the Island was miserable in many ways. The traffic being the first issue. Personal bias, 😂.

The last time it was on Long Island was when Stony Brook hosted and I'm pretty sure it was also a sellout. My favorite location is that soccer park in PA right on the river where they hosted it in 2016. Easy to get to, plenty of parking and tailgating.

Ah, Brown, music to my ears. That place is only 30 minutes from my house. Loved it. Other than the fact that it is in “beautiful” Chester, PA, from where I sit (or live) it’s the perfect place.

Was that the famous MD/UNC OT battle? With the Men's games in Philadelphia that made for an amazing weekend for fans of both.

No that was the 2013 NC game at Villanova! The Philadelphia Union Stadium (Talen Energy Stadium, PPL Park, etc.) is the one on the river, just under the Commodore Barry Bridge

Is the Schoolgirls National Tournament being played done in NC too? I know historically it is held in the same area as the national championship game and on the same weekend.

Yup! Either way, Philly is best location, lol.
