What will drive up attendance:
1) Black out the game in the local area or any area within 50 miles of the game, make people HAVE to go. (I know this will drive down advertising income for ESPN but it will help fill the stadium). You will also have to announce this about a year in advance so people can prepare
2) NCAA and universities have to do a better job promoting the lacrosse team within their local areas. Poor attendance doesn't really happen when you have Syracuse and Hopkins at championship weekend. Their followings are large, and yes that has to do with history, but it also has to do with their universities really marketing the lacrosse programs.
3) Put it back in an NCAA facility until we can continuously sell those out. Theres stadiums with 50,000+ seats. It will be cheaper and will look like a bigger event on TV

You kidding with this? They were selling BEER inside the stadium. BEER. Would this continue if games played in Byrd, Delaware, Rutgers, etc?

What does the NCAA need to cover the nut anyway? Who pays for the teams expenses? Did the semi-final losers book hotel rooms for Sunday night, regardless? Or did the Ncaa do that?

Heard they sold semi-drinkable beer, but nothing like the an ABV greater than 8 Keep it where we can drink beer.

Great idea.

But what is the college that wants to host (i) a multi-day event over a holiday weekend and (ii) while the school is out of session and (iii) at the time of year that the college is dealing with (or has just finished dealing with) the huge special event logistics of graduation? Answer -- there is no such college.

If you want it in a college venue then you'd have to (i) move it off Memorial Day weekend or (ii) get rid of the multi-day final four weekend concept or (iii) probably both.

NFL stadiums really are the only/best option for the current timing/format. MLS stadiums could be used if you want to shrink the seating down to 25k or less.

Final 4 should be in one of the new MLS stadiums, at least some of the time. The one in Philly by the bridge looks really cool, DC's new Audi Field would be awesome, and Banc of California Stadium would generate some good west coast buzz for the game.

Terps and UVA already have a soccer game there. Though I don't think just a normal regular season lacrosse game will draw too many fans all the way down to SE DC. Final 4 would be great there, but I'm sure there are restricting financial issues. Maybe 25,000 seat Red Bull in Jersey would be suitable. LA and Portland would be great host stadiums too.

I think you make it at a 20-25K field like Audi and make it a hot ticket again.
Loved to see the women's game at a packed Homewood. I'm sure it could have drawn many more people, or be held at a newer, nicer facility, but that was still an electric environment. Awesome to see people in every inch of that stadium.

Try University of Colorado, Boulder. Graduation early May. Folsom Field holds 53,800. Beautiful scenery and fun stuff for visitors to do on their days off. DU could act as host. Biggest issue is hotel rooms, but Denver is 35 miles away. Forget AFA for their graduation is over Memorial Day.

Colorado's laws are excellent. We could have a very good time in Boulder. Great running and biking as well. The night before the game we could have Dark Star Orchestra play. Let's get this done !!

You don't need a 50,000+ seat stadium for a lax final four in Colorado. It would be more than 2/3rds empty.

The NCAA final four would draw about 12,000-15,000 people (without DU in it) or perhaps up to 20,000 if DU was in the final four with nice weather and other attractive opponents. This estimate is based on the Denver NCAA regional in 2015 which drew 13,000+ to Mile High Stadium (Denver, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Albany) with rainy weather.

Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids (18,000 capacity) would likely serve the event very well. That stadium hosted the 2014 World Lax World Championship Game between the US and Canada in front of about 12,000 fans.

A couple of answers.

The NCAA pays costs of the tourney eg travel, hotel rooms etc.

Stadiums cost money just to open.

Saying a DU can host doesn’t get to the question of do they want to host. Best in mind hosting means no Memorial Day weekend for those involved, who is going to operate the food concessions, who will act as ushers, Security etc. finding hosts became a huge problem with on campus sites

Monday numbers don’t really have other head to head college sports, but the Saturday games seem to go head to head against Women’s Softball Regional games, which come out ahead in all cases. Another interesting comparison is the NCAA wrestling finals, which draws around 2.5x viewership of any of the lacrosse games. Perhaps people think Quint is a better wrestling commentator.

The Bolder Boulder 10k running race finishes in the stadium on Memorial Day. They just completed the 41st edition. Approx 40,000 runners. They aren't moving that, although I agree the venue would be perfect.
