Ortega, who was a resident of Grand Prairie, when she was convicted, has always maintained she didn't realize her immigration status meant she was ineligible to vote. Having come to this country as a baby and living her entire life in America legally, Ortega cast a ballot five times between 2005 and 2014 mistakenly thinking her green card gave her the right to vote.

I guess Childathletics has no need to worry about illegals voting if they think they are citizens and using it as an excuse to avoid a conviction and deportation. He can rest easy now.
You are proving our point, rather nicely...it happens; full stop. And yet, trying to curtail it is now viewed as racist...go figure.
Someone here since being a baby mistakenly thought her green card gave her the right to vote...the right to vote! Ohh the horror!

And it was discovered...and prosecuted. Stupidly, IMO, as she had a good faith belief that what she was doing was legal and appropriate as her civic duty. Same thing for the released felon in Florida who thought she was doing her civic duty to vote after she did her time, yet prosecuted...ohh the horror, she wanted to vote!

But where are the thousands upon thousands, nay millions of non-citizens, who know they would be voting illegally and yet do so, criminally, for...Dems...

But not discovered.

No, what is racist, nativist, bigoted is to imagine that there are thousands upon thousands, doing so. And not caught...

Everyone knows that non-citizen voting is complete troll bull shirt.

It is already illegal and hardly ever happens.

So just more MAGA garbage that, apparently, some stupid people actually believe. Like the nonsense below.

I assume YA is smart enough not to believe it. So presumably he blathers on about it because he gets jollies spewing troll junk. Own the libs!!!!

Fact check below.

The Trump administration continues to double down on its false and widely-criticized assertion that 3 to 5 million non-citizens illegally voted in the 2016 election.

On Sunday, White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller claimed 14% of non-citizens are registered to vote. “We know for a fact, you have massive numbers of non-citizens registered to vote in this country,” he said, appearing on ABC’s This Week With George Stephanopoulos. “The White House has provided enormous evidence with respect to voter fraud.”

The point is checks and balances....it all ties into our lengthy conversation. Heaven forbid we have a way to do simple bean counting, checksum arithmetic.....oh the shock and horror, of every entity in on the planet to do simple accounting. But I get it....identify politic name calling is far easier and less work; well done. ;)
Again, census has zero to do with voting. Zero.

Focus any attention you think voting "integrity" deserves on actual voting. We have quite robust systems in place, with all sorts of checks and balances, and ultimately the threat of criminal prosecution for any actual wrongdoing. Focus on supporting those systems and those people who make them work.

And yet, there is this peddling of a huge conspiracy theory that thousands, even millions, of non-citizens are voting Democrat. Just ain't true. Not remotely true.

So, the motivations of those peddling this garbage are the issue, not some imagined issue of waves of non-citizen voting. And the gullibility of those who buy this garbage are an issue as well. Is it simply stupidity? Or is that if one hears a lie often enough, one begins to believe? Or that if the lie is big enough, people will believe it must be at least in part true?

Fascism, youth.

The GOP wants it to be harder to vote, and push poor folks not to vote at all. That way, we can get back to white "freemen" with property deciding what to do with this country.

More r fraud on voting fraud
.
On Friday an impressive piece of reporting from Jude Joffe-Block at NPR untangled the origins of a story pushed by Republicans that Democrats were encouraging asylum seekers to vote illegally for President Joe Biden in 2024, revealing that the story was entirely made up.

The story broke on X, formerly Twitter, on April 15, when the investigative arm of the right-wing Heritage Foundation, which promises to provide “aggressive oversight” of the Biden administration, posted photos of what it claimed were flyers from inside portable toilets at a migrant camp in Matamoros, Mexico, that said in broken Spanish: “Reminder to vote for President Biden when you are in the United States. We need another four years of his term to stay open.” The tweet thread got more than 9 million views and was boosted by Elon Musk, X’s owner.

But the story was fabricated. The flyer used the name of a small organization that helps asylum seekers, along with the name of the woman who runs the organization. She is a U.S. citizen and told Joffe-Block that her organization has “never encouraged people to vote for anyone.” Indeed, it has never come up because everyone knows noncitizens are not eligible to vote. The flyer had outdated phone numbers and addresses, and its Spanish was full of errors. Migrants who are staying at the encampment as they wait for their appointments to enter the U.S. say they have never seen such flyers, and no one has urged them to vote for Biden.

Digging showed that the flyer was “discovered” by the right-wing video site Muckraker, which specializes in “undercover” escapades. The founder of Muckraker, Anthony Rubin, and his brother, Joshua Rubin, had shown up at the organization’s headquarters in Matamoros asking to become volunteers for the organization; they and their conversation were captured on video, and signs point to the conclusion that they planted the flyers.

Nonetheless, Republicans ran with the story. Within 12 hours after the fake flyer appeared on X, Republican representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Dan Bishop (R-NC) brought posters of it to Congress, and Republicans made it a centerpiece of their insistence that Congress must pass a new law against noncitizen voting. Rather than being protected by governmental officials, the woman who ran the organization that helps asylum seekers got death threats.

Jealous that Democrats are employing the same consultants to maximize their chances in the election? Are you really that obtuse? You don’t know how this game is played? Okay then, onto the short bus for you, I guess.

The (R)'s are trying to establish a way to enforce the law.
https://www.lee.senate.gov/2024/5/lee-a ... gistration

Still no answer as to how the citizenship of a voter is now verified, even though the data now exist in the REAL ID database which DHS maintains.

Would you stop for a red light when there is no other traffic if you knew there was no way it would be enforced ?

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

We've never before had anywhere near this number of non-citizens at large in the country, with no reduction in sight.

Anyone who believes that electing one candidate over another will solve the problems that concern them have taken the first step to the land of disillusionment. Politicians have only one mission in life, that is to get re- elected.

Didn't say the Dems weren't at fault.

But they're not the ones peddling this stupid, laughable TinFoilHat theory that hard working Catholic immigrants are shoo-in Dem voters.

And when I ask you or your fellow Republicans: if your party REALLY believes this? Why haven't they fixed our immigration and VISA system in the last two decades? Are ya stupid?

Because you can't claim you believe in the idea that immigrants vote D, and then at same time, do NOTHING about our immigration system.

Which tells me: your leaders are LYING to you about this, like they do with so many of their fake issues.

Tell me you're an idiot without telling me you're an idiot.

Gee, if this is the "plan", how come Republicans didn't pass this sooper-triple-extra-important-sy when Trump was in charge, foiling the Dems nefarious TinFoilHat Plan?!? Why wait until Dems are in charge to kill dumb bills like this one?

Watching grown adults fall for this stuff over, and over, and over, and over again is just.......sad.

But great news everyone! If you vote for Trump, he'll really-sooper-extra-nifty fix allllll your problems, and make the gays and the foreigners go away.
Anyone who believes that electing one candidate over another will solve the problems that concern them have taken the first step to the land of disillusionment. Politicians have only one mission in life, that is to get re- elected.
nonsense....its the r's fault, must be....can never be otherwise. ;)

Poor brown people = Democrats. That appeals to MAGA crowd.
It's why it drives me nuts that Republicans can figure out just fine that some sh9t that came out of Biden's mouth (or other Dems) were homophobic or racist...

...yet their response to folks calling out Republican racist dog whistles and the like is to clutch pearls, and claim "oh, everything is racist now'>

Nope. Sometimes your team does racist sh&t. Stop with the "you're playing the race card", when you know doggone well that you have racists in your party, and sometimes Americans say racist sh9t.

That said? America is SO much better with race than much of the planet. It's why immigrants keep coming, obviously.

Despite our problems, I wouldn’t want my kids to grow up anywhere else on the planet. After they have made it, there are lots of other places to enjoy life. I was just thinking about spending 3 months out of the year in the Algarve and the South of France when I retire. Beats Florida.
