Not sure why the Salisbury fans keep trying to knock down the CNU program. Don’t you want someone in your conference to be another top d3 team? Salisbury has had more 6th years and just as many 5th years as CNU over the past few years so that argument doesn’t make sense. Nobody would beat Salisbury on a consistent basis so let’s not act like having a 1-7 record is not what just about every other team would have as well.Bananas4Lax3 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 2:26 pm Look at the resources, costs and advantages they have had as a program. How many 5th or 6th year players? Re: CNU 2024
Right? Salisbury fans love to bash on CNU for not being able to beat them, but there are literally 2 teams that have a winning record against them.. RIT and Wesleyan. Both of them were in the national championship. Tufts is 3-3. Every other team in all of D3 is not even remotely close to having a winning record against the Gulls. Does every other D3 program suck as well?BigMoose9 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 7:53 pmNot sure why the Salisbury fans keep trying to knock down the CNU program. The 5th year/6th year talk is dumb. Salisbury’s 2 best players in last years matchups were a 6th year who played 100 career games and a 5th year grad student. CNU had 2 5th year starters compared to Salisbury who had 5.
People forget CNU is still a relatively new program and has had more success in their first 16 years than basically any D3 program.
For example:
Salisbury’s 14th, 15th, and 16th seasons:
- 14th: 10-5 Missed NCAA’s
- 15th: 12-4 first round exit
- 16th: 10-6 Missed NCAA’s
CNU 14th, 15th, and 16th seasons:
14th: 13-6 NCAA final 4
15th: 18-2 Elite 8
16th: 19-3 NCAA final 4
Same people trying to bash CNU were probably saying the same thing about Salisbury and how they can’t compete with Hobart. Winning National Championships takes time and is not an overnight thing. CNU will continue to get better and the recruits they are bringing in are a testament to that. They are getting top recruits from the DMV and basically any good kid from RVA goes to CNU.

Imagine using Coach Berkman’s record and resume as the baseline for success in coaching. SMH.
Re: CNU 2024
If you think I’m trying to compare MT to Berkman then you’re missing the point… Berkman wasn’t even the coach yet in the seasons I listed above. He’s obviously the best coach of all time and if you want to use his resume as the standard for coaching then every coach sucks.Motorman wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:48 amImagine if MT also had to coach the Wonens Soccer program during 7 years while also HC for lacrosse.Laxguy703 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 8:39 pmRight? CNU has had such a quick rise in the D3 landscape. The reason I showed those seasons side by side was to show that success takes time. Even the best programs struggled to be in the top 10 in their early years.
Re: CNU 2024
Nah, just having some fun. But could you imagine if a high level program like CNU had to have HC for lax also coach Women’s Soccer, not much in the of Fall practice. May do soccer at one end and lax at other end of the field. Coach stands at mid lineLaxguy703 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:31 amIf you think I’m trying to compare MT to Berkman then you’re missing the point… Berkman wasn’t even the coach yet in the seasons I listed above. Re: CNU 2024
Apologies for the CNU thread getting threadjacked to talk about SU.
But I like the CNU program, it’s impressive what they have done in the limited history and the program seems to be positioned well to continue to be a force. Looking at Washington post all-Mets or Richmond Times Dispatch, you see a kid or two every year picking CNU. They have great facilities, an established quality coach and offer in-state tuition for VA students. There are a lot of positives.
For them, they are running into the problem that St. Mary’s (mid 2000s), Stevenson (late 2000s - mid 2010s) and York (mid 2010s through 2020) dealt with. To be the best team in the conference you have to continue to push forward and try and reload at the same level that SU does, which is not feasible for most programs. CNU had massive expectations going into this season and still having a year most programs would die for. No matter what happens this year, the next years are going to be tough as they change from the established guys that graduate - move-on and have new guys try to step into the fold.
As an SU fan, I’m happy to have Berkman but don’t know how much longer he sticks around. He’s chasing history to overtake Hobart and has a good chance this season. If he does, what else is there to chase.
From a personal standpoint, he’s dealt with tragedy (house fire and loss in the family), he’s has a grandchild and he’s had health scares in the past. The program is in great shape as the facilities are where you expect to be, it has a full-time assistant coach and good players in the program for now and the future.

Anyone know anything about Auslander's status?

Looks like he’s back today. Saw him on the field

Re: CNU 2024
That was a blistering first quarter! Love the energy from both teams. Tons of transition, good hits, no penalties. Great quarter from Hanway. W&L offense seems a bit gun shy--they had a few good opportunities to rip but held back to work for closer looks. Also W&L might have the tallest average height of an offensive unit I've seen all year. They look like trees out there.
Re: CNU 2024
Big win for the Captains yesterday. Even with a loss in the conference championship to Salisbury, I’d say there is a good chance of hosting the first weekend. The selection committee will want to have a host site down south and I’d assume they’d get one over the ODAC champion.

Re: CNU 2024
The best thing about the game yesterday was Hanway's performance. 16 saves, only 8 GA. He looked confident. I wonder if his flurry of early saves got into the heads of the W&L offense, causing them to hesitate on some obvious shooting opportunities the rest of the way. A big "get right" game for him. If he can keep that up, it dramatically changes the outlook for CNU in the postseason, IMO.
Second best thing was the return of Auslander. Guy comes off 4-5 games missed and cashes in 4 assists like he never missed a beat. He's such a smart player. The entire offense looks sharper and more fluid with him on the field.

Performance against W&L was really solid. Getting healthy and right is always a good thing. Auslander would be a joy to play with. Head is always up. He's seeing/baiting the rotations.

Re: CNU 2024
Did Cabaniss get hurt?
Re: CNU 2024
Really hoping it’s something minor and CNU was being cautious by letting him sit. I rewinded the game during his last faceoff and nothing alarming happened so it is quite puzzling why he was out. If he is out then their slim chance to beat the Gulls gets even slimmer.
Felt like Stockton won every faceoff in the 2nd half and that allowed them to stick around and make the game feel closer than it really was. They outshot CNU by 14 in the second half due to a heavy favor in possession. Kudos to the Captains offense for making their possessions count.

Yeah Cabaniss being out would be a massive blow to CNU's postseason hopes.

Sheesh. When you can't win a face-off and your goalie can't save long range shots, it's hard to beat anyone. Let alone a team as efficient as Salisbury.
Re: CNU 2024
SU is CNUs kryptonite…. Why CNU has never won a conference championship.
Embarrassing start to this game by CNU. Goalie is out of position and hasn’t made a save. Also being torched at the X and ground balls.

Re: CNU 2024
Difference in this game right now is GK play and GB’s. CNU offense is getting some really high percentage looks. Hanway is struggling and letting some easy ones in. Ransom is standing on his head and CNU just hasn’t had the ball much.

Re: CNU 2024
Not much chatter since CAC tourney ended. What are your thoughts and takes heading into NCAA's?
I think overall CNU should feel fortunate about how the bracket landed for them. Not having to face the Gulls on their side of the bracket probably feels like a relief. I'm sure the team is eager to prove that, even if SU has their number, they're still a top contender.
Thrilled that we get to see a Cabrini matchup--CNU should win this game handily, but a team literally playing its last games ever could make for a real fun contest.
Stevens to upset CNU seems to be a trendy pick around the forum.
