2024 top 20

Well Penn and Princeton split with Duke/UNC, Harvard had UVA on the ropes until the very end. Even cellar dweller Brown took Maryland to OT. Yale also played (and beat Denver). I think the ACC is the best conference, but there have been plenty of Ivy matchups with the ACC/B1G and they've faired well enough in them to suggest that the conference is legit -- and that by extension Yale, Cornell, and PSU are legit.

I think the transitive property dissipates pretty rapidly in sports. Look - I do think the Ivies (and PSU) are good. I just don't know how good they are relative to the teams that are I think are the strongest teams in the country (i.e. the ACCs (ex-UNC), MD, Hop and Army). We will start finding out soon enough. Today's game and next weekend's SU/Cornell game will be interesting.

As a conference, I think the Ivy is, on the whole, pretty comparable to the B1G. A B1G/Ivy challenge series would be fun, do it all one weekend in mid-March. Not trying to argue seeding, but these would be six good games:

MD v. Cornell (22 rematch)
Hop v. Yale
PSU v. Princeton
Michigan v. Penn
Rutgers v. Harvard
OSU v. Brown

I think it’s ACC and the rest. PSU and Hop can make noise, big question there is at the X. Ivy has a lot of top offenses, but defensively I don’t think they have a contender (Penn is the only good defense).

I think any team in the top 10-15 can beat any other. There is quite a bit of parity this season. It's been pretty much A beats B, B beats C, C beats D and D beats A.

I don’t hate it, you just cannot have gtown ahead of Hopkins and then put uva ahead of ND. You’re saying ND’s loss is “better,” they both have wins over Maryland, Ohio state, and Michigan, and then ND has a top 5 win over Cuse. Either ND and UVA have to flip or Hop and Gtown… either way the top 5 win should give ND the edge

Also, anybody could do their own poll if they don't like yours? Just sayin'. For what it's worth, even as a fellow Ivy loyalist I think you've done the right thing to group the Ivy teams just outside the top 10 -- they are capable of great lacrosse and nobody should overlook them on a given day but we haven't seen the consistency yet from any of them. (I could also see Princeton in particular rounding into tip-top form by the ILT and being a really tough out down the stretch for anybody.)

Ah, that takes me back to those halcyon days of 2010, when Maryland canned Cottle (no one was happier about that than me) and hired Tillman (who had done OK but not spectacularly with the Crimson), and then, after the Tillman deal was done, PSU hired Tambroni away from Cornell, one year after the national-championship-game appearance in which his team blew a 3-goal lead with 4 minutes to play. Some Terp fans at laxpower were mighty annoyed: they hadn't known that the great Tambroni might be available!

But at the time, some of us Cornell fans suspected that Tambroni might not actually be all that, and maybe that lady AD running the Terps had actually made the right move ...

I agree Wierman is not Pete Lasalla but he is close. 5th yr player turned it on and won the faceoffs in the second half. Michigan game Weitfelt got the best of him. He also had 2assists .
