CABRINI 2024
Re: CABRINI 2024
Sunday thoughts with Mike Piccoli. The College of Wooster has been around since 1866. Cabrini College was founded in 1957. Fighting Scots. Cavaliers. Ohio. Pennsylvania. Series losses. Series wins. Boats still floating. Boats burned. 300mil+ endowment. (40mil+) Debt/sold to a neighboring blue blood. Alumni too busy with life to post on FanLax. Several alumni with nothing better to do.
I'm thankful for the contest, and think it's lovely Wooster gets to continue on it's merry way for decades to come. I'd rather be a Cavalier without a home.
Boys repping Radnor like it's still a grass field with our classmates walking futons and 30 racks of Natty down to the sidelines. Caution tossed to the wind.
Last lax battle for Eagle Road on the horizon. Chance of precipitation (beer, Zyn, intensely savage behavior) is forecasted.

Re: CABRINI 2024
Catholic today. I'm not looking ahead, not that it matters where I'm looking. But my mind is fixated on Friday at this hour.
As a refresher for anyone new to the Eagle Road "rivalry," this video, starting at the 4 minute 6 second mark, was played prior to the 2012, and only, NCAA clash between the programs. The all time series sits at 13-0. They walked over to our field, and through our tailgate. We spewed nonsense, they spewed nonsense. Visceral. They scored and celebrated the first goal of the game as if it were the NC. Watching the life bleed out of them as we marched to a 19-3 win was incredibly satisfying.
Eastern is planning a large tailgate this Friday, on Cabrini's campus, and it's been communicated to me that they are reveling in our institutions demise. While I've expressed gratitude and good will towards our other opponents, and will continue to do so, my brain still hasn't let go of the dislike I felt all those years ago (2001-2004). They always claimed to stand on the moral high ground (which is valid, I mean, their undergrads can't even close a dorm room door if they have the "opposite" sex present). It irritated me because on the field they ran a rudimentary zone, slashed violently/frequently, butt ends, all that. And while other sports saw more of a back and forth we've stood on their throats for 20+ years. We escorted them out of the PAC and squashed their first tournament season. None of those players or coaches are there anymore, for us or them. So in theory, I should just be excited for the contest, presumably the last one ever against these guys. But I'm not. I want to pull a Brian Dawkins and take their souls.

Posted this elsewhere, but the effort was there against Catholic. Thankful for the contest against the Cardinals and the follow-through on their commitment.
As Not Suitable mentioned we've been accumulating some injuries. Natural flow of the season, hits harder with this group for obvious reasons. Stoked to cheer them on tomorrow and take in what will hopefully be a vibrant atmosphere.

Injuries come with the territory which is devastating with these numbers. Unfortunately can't attend in person but will be tuning into the live stream and I hope Nestler is "boots on the ground" for tomorrow.MVPiccoli wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 4:00 pm Posted this elsewhere, but the effort was there against Catholic. We'll take it. Always enjoy seeing Eastern fans walk across our campus disappointed that they lost to us AGAIN!

Re: CABRINI 2024
Eastern has some quality. McCormick owned the dot. A bit of a theme has emerged energy wise. The slow starts in the 3rd. Product of depth, but also a lack of physical movement. Weird to watch.

Re: CABRINI 2024
That first half was fun! Second.... not so much. I was getting flashbacks to the Catholic game but the boys managed to hold off the comeback and get some goals late. Cortland, Catholic, and Eastern second halves have showed the weakness in lack of depth, but hella proud of these guys for continuing to fight through adversity. Don't know much about Desales this year but looking forward to Wednesday!
Re: CABRINI 2024
Nestler, Krug and a handful of 2019-ish faces on hand. I got a shortened version of the Widener encounter. Not as dramatic as originally thought. If Eastern would've kept it closer in the 1st quarter that would have been anyone's game. They had 150ish fans. Cavs took them out of it for much of the first half. Fanelli brothers and #4 were very good. Not Suitable wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:00 am That first half was fun! Second.... not so much. Re: CABRINI 2024
7-3. One underwhelming performance against the Bugs. One hard fought, tooth and nail loss to HSC. One loss to a team where they could not keep their foot on the gas. Eagle Road secured. Blue Route road signs will remain Cabrini blue. Gutsy win at Cortland. The one last night probably made Colf smile. Gotta stay diligent and developmentally focused during this AEC stretch. Forget the wins, which I love for the boys, could not be any prouder of the effort and love they are playing with. Defensively, they need to work on their big little switches and Bear needs to find a way to stay within himself. Channel that aggression. Offensively, when they have the legs, they rack up opportunities to score. Creative, fearless, together. As the game wears on, our endurance becomes suspect. Possessions get a little shorter. If I was coaching these boys, I'd let their CNS recover a bit. Feed the Cats style.

6 straight conference games before the gulls. Don't take anyone lightly and overlook the competition, but this is the time to recover for the shorthanded squad.
Re: CABRINI 2024
Boys are enduring a weather delay. But the Griffins/AEC are going to have to do something pretty special to pry a W away from our boat burners.
Re: CABRINI 2024
Great crowd on hand for the last Cabrini Cav’s Mens Lacrosse Senior Day! Solid all around victory for the team. Glad to see some of our formerly injured players getting back on the field today! Roll Cavs Roll!
Re: CABRINI 2024
Had a chance to watch most of the Neumann game. Sloppy play in the first half. Cavs put their foot down in the 3rd. Not the best officiating, both ways.
Missed the Marywood game. Centenary should be an opportunity to work what little bench we have. Immaculatta will force a little better execution.

What I wouldn't give to roll out to ERDF for one more practice. Game days were amazing, but that daily grind out there with guys BSing after class or before night class are something I took for granted. I hope these guys are cherishing each moment.
Re: CABRINI 2024
It's a wound that never heals my friend. I remember being outside on the upper field (pre-turf era) talking to Brian Felice (Close Dman, Class of 2005) late my senior year during pre-practice stretch lines. Trying to savor the banter, spring air, and moment. 20 years later, it still feels like yesterday. Not Suitable wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 3:06 pm What I wouldn't give to roll out to ERDF for one more practice. My favorite things were the bus rides. Just nonsense. I love nonsense. That and the sound of our collective cleats on the macadam. That crunching noise. The boys all talking junk around you, the feeling of the upcoming conflict. Heavenly.
Re: CABRINI 2024
As nice it is today, Wednesday's home game will be another rainy one. It's as if Mother Cabrini can't stop crying. See you on the hill Wednesday!

Another balanced team effort today by the Cav’s! Unselfish plays all over the field. This team moved the ball well which will be critical in the future success for the next segment of their season!Looking forward to this Friday Night’s Game vs. one of the top teams in D3! Let’s go Cavs!
Re: CABRINI 2024
All of D 3 men's lax is proud of your players and coaches. I hope your former coach Colfer is there to join the line at the end of the game and shake Berkman's hand one last time. It was a good rivalry.Looking forward to this Friday Night’s Game vs. one of the top teams in D3! Let’s go Cavs!
On an unrelated note; given that Cabrini and Villanova both have Roman Catholic origins with Philadelphia area roots why didn't Villanova absorb the Cabrini student body or maybe have Cabrini College at Villanova University?

Re: CABRINI 2024
They're too high browed for us. The academic standards are higher at Nova, the main reason. The only thing Villanova offered was to wave the application fee for Cabrini students. No extra consideration for faculty or staff unless a position was open and they could apply. Villanova wants the property for expansion reasons. From my understanding.MrLax2U wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 9:52 amAll of D 3 men's lax is proud of your players and coaches.
